Best Chicago Style outside of Chicago; better than many in Chitown!Garlic knots a must and a salad bar to help you feel better about yourself.I eat at Leo's every time I'm back in town...and bring slices on the plane to the chagrin of my seatmates.

It has been many years since I had been to Leonardos. The last time I was there it was for a lunch event and I think there was a buffet kind of deal going on. Walking in here is like walking into a pizza place from the 70's or 80's. The decor is quite old fashioned, from the salad bar to the booths along the walls. Greeted by our server, we were told to sit where we like, and we found a table with chairs. The menus are pretty simple, and we got our order in to our server without issue. This time around, it was for dinner with my mom, and we went for a pizza. We kept it simple with sausage and ham, and we were pleased with the results. The sauce is kept light, and the dough has a good flavor and texture which then holds up a day later as leftovers. The pizza is good, the experience is nice, and within Gainesville I would rate Leonardos as being one of the better pizza places you can go to.

Had not been there in about 10 years, and was excited to be in town and get a Big Leo. After over a 45 minute wait, we got our pizza with totally burnt crust. Won't be back for another 10 years. Maybe instead of your workers standing around chit chatting, maybe watch the pizza's!

OK, so I've been here a few years ago. I had an amazing experience. I liked it so much I had takeout and the pizza was soggy and disappointing. I complained to the manager, the actually gave me a free pizza and told me to come back. I did the takeout again. The pizza was awful. Now, in at the present time I came back, sat down again for the first time in many years and had an amazing experience. I just think that maybe the pizza doesn't do well if you're taking it home. I highly recommend coming in and sitting down and enjoying the ambience of the place

Leonardo's Pizza of Millhopper serves the best pizza in the world. Of course most pizza is great, but their deep-dish pizza -- request wheat crust -- is the best. You could travel around the world and not find better: to NYC (of course I love that too), Chicago, Detroit, Sicily, Naples [FL?], or across town to Satchel's (OK, my apologies, I've yet to eat at the renowned Satchel's, but did you know that Satchel got his start at the original Leonardo's, near UF campus, where he impressed the owner? See news article link below on closing of the original location[s], and you'll find mention of Satchel). I've eaten at Leonardo's Millhopper many times over the years, even once when we had to drive gingerly through a touch of snow (yes, snow) to get there. I've had an old high school classmate work there while he was in grad school, and a neighbor who grew up two doors down who may still be there. The first owner who started this location retired and has passed the torch (good to know when to retire; coincidentally, I happened to arrive at the restaurant one time a couple years ago when he was stopping by to check in). I recommend the deep-dish, wheat-crust cheese pizza with extra tomato sauce. Once when about to close for the night, they gave me a meaty pizza that hadn't been picked up, so yes they have meat - carnivores will get to ham it up too! While I would always get carry-out, using the back entrance, I like the real-wood seating. They often have a salad bar. Here's an article basically about two Leo locations that have closed. They were on University Avenue, between campus and downtown - the original on property bought by UF for music and other buildings (I hope that one re-opens at the location near 13th Street): https://www.gainesville.com/story/sports/columns/dooley/2020/08/10/leonardorsquos-706-closes-after-47-years-in-gainesville/112908028/ Each restaurant developed its own style, differing pizza. Leonardo's Millhopper is now the only Leonardo's in town, a great restaurant.

I got the big Leo. Takeout. It was outstanding. It's not a Chicago pie. But it's definitely deep dish and I was good for about half of a small. Had a beer while I waited. Very retro in there. People are attentive and nice.
