My intentions became reality, today, as I found myself opening the doorway to "Carrolll's Meat Market" - better known as, "Lee's Carroll's Meat Shoppe. I've visited this meat market a few years ago, but wasn't to fond of the 'butcherery' smell. (Butcherery is definitely not a word or verb but, it's a better term of explaining the bloody smell from slaughtering.)During my visit, today, my sense of smell may have not been activated or someone may have done a better job at maintaining the market. Major cool points! Even though I was hoping for a much broader variation of fresh not frozen meats such as turkey and fish; I still found it quite easy to locate items and navigate through the petite market. And oh my gheesus! The adorable checkout counter was adorned with such an ambiance of natural light, I just couldn't resist capturing the moment which I received an email that this photo became their featured photo. FYI: There's one way in if you're turning into their lot from University. But, there's a two way lane if you are turning in from the road (in which I don't recall the name) that's at the intersection.

I'm updating my review of Carroll's. I tried my best to support them by buying my jerky meat from them. I use eye of round. While it continued to get expensive I never complained. What I found annoying was that I was each time I'd call I'd get more grief about wanting to buy sliced eye of round. I had NO problem paying what they'd ask, but literally EVERY TIME I got more & more poor treatment. (Not by Glenda. She was the only one who I felt was honest.)So I no longer go there. I would love to support a local business but I drive further & pay more to get what I asked to buy from them.

Last year, this shop was absolutely amazing, had wonderful employees, and would have been given a 5 star review from me. However, this year (Thanksgiving, specifically), I called in to see if I could reserve a cut and the woman that answered was EXTREMELY rude. She had a nasty attitude and I have absolutely no freakin' idea why, people. -_- She told me I'd have to place a deposit, which I have no problem doing, but once I asked her if I can do it with her, now, she said "NOPE" - then silence. So okay, I asked if I could do it on the website - "NOPE." - okay. So then I asked "How do I do it then?", to which she replied "You gotta come in." Wtf? I hung up, called again the next day, SAME THING. This woman needs to be trained on how to be a better customer service representative and, if she can't learn/refuses to learn, Lee's needs to let her go because I'm sure she is chasing off SEVERAL potential customers. As far as the meat itself, last year's was FANTASTIC. We actually ended up buying like 2x the amount we needed, hahaha, but it was absolutely delicious and fed us through the holidays and more! Hell, maybe two holidays... haha, just kidding, not that long! The gentleman (maybe the butcher?) that was there was so nice/funny, he picked on my partner when he picked it up saying something like "Your little self gonna be able to eat all that?". Little does he know that he would if it were up to him, hahaha.

Love this place! The only meat item I do not like is the hamburger meat. It is bloody and has a funny taste. Everything else gets an A plus!

Highly recommended!!! Healthier food! Less processed! I always come here to shop. Have such a wide variety and their meats have so much flavor unlike a corporate store selling me tasteless rubbery chicken. I'm glad I can get novelty meats for an amazing price! SHOP LOCAL keep our money in our town!

We have been buying our meat here for quite some time and for the most part it has been good. But we found out they won't stand behind their meat. We bought seven filet mignon steaks that had a funny taste and smell and were so tough we couldn't eat them. We returned the meat and was told by the manager, a very arrogant, rude and argumentative man, we cooked them wrong. (I'm 60 years old...I definitely know how to cook a steak). Not sure what animal they are selling as steaks, but it certainly isn't cow. Don't shop at this store...i strongly recommend you buy your meat somewhere else.

This was a very degrading experience that I had in the store. I was at the counter talking to a young African American male Employee and a white manager from the back yelled at him from another room "get in the back, you got work back there, Get In the Back". Then another white employee came over stating "we are suppose to serve the counter customers may I Help you". The young man I was speaking with disappeared to the back; I said no to the new guy trying to help me and began to walk out. I was insulted by this experience. I turned around and went back and asked for the Manager. The manager was the person who had yelled at the young black man.I told him I was very disappointed about the interaction we just had. He began to tell me that the black man was supposed to be in the back working and I let him finish. Then I told him that I understand that he was supposed to be in the back working but he had interrupted him having a conversation with me by yelling from another room. He told me again that he was not supposed to be up at the front and that he was supposed to be in the back and he wasn't yelling even though he was in another room. I told him that to me it was yelling because he was in another room and he had to raise his voice loud enough for him to hear him at the counter. Again he told me that the young man had no business being at the counter and that he should've been in the back. I told him that I understood what he was saying about the young man needing to be in the back but the fact that he was talking to me and the man yelled at him from another room showed a lack of respect in the manner in which he interrupted the conversation was inappropriate. I also said it was a form of disrespect that I took offense to it as a potential customer and human being. Also I told him at this point the only explored the only comment that he should have is said was an apology to me and to the Black Employee that he disrespected in front of a potential customer that this was not good customer service. I was disappointed in the level of service that I am now receiving in the store matter as a matter of fact I didn't like it at all. I also told him that I would be leaving comments to the way that this was treated I was treated in the store on all media outlets. He then said "Sorry, can I help you?" I decline to make the $150 to $200 purchase I was going to make at a local neighborhood shop I felt so bad for that young black man who had to endure such degrading treatment. I was infuriated that this manager felt his behavior was appropriate. this happened on August 27, 2020 and I went to 3 other stores on August 29, 2020 to replace what I was going to buy. My total was $154.35 items I was taking to my brothers for our vacation. I am an African American Queen who is an Elder.
