Was a dream to be able to make it to a such a monument in the skateboarding community! Drove 8 hours to skate this park, yes it is very old and not in perfect condition, but the experience is one of a lifetime! If you don't have your own equipment they will provide you with it!!!

Absolutely awesome place. The staff is super friendly and very chill vibe there. All levels and ages and anything from skateboards to bikes to scooters to skates. Went with my 10 yr old daughter both of our first times and had a blast. Everything there is in pretty good condition and plenty of different skill level ramps and bowls and runs to ride. Can't wait to come back.

Unfortunately it rained before we got to the park but we had a great time walking around it and visiting the skate shop.

This is the original skate(board) park in Jacksonville. Tony Hawk and other famous skaters have skated here. My brother also grew up skating here. So it's pretty cool to see Kona Skate Park in video games. It's in the middle of a neighborhood and next to a trailer park, and the staff is pretty friendly. I took my son here several years ago, but he wasn't ready for more than 3 seconds on the board and pointing to it. Daily admission is normally $10 but they were cool and didn't charge for me and my son to just watch others skate for 15 minutes. Looks like Tony Hawk is coming back into town tomorrow. This should be fun!

So I thought this was a roller ring. I was clearly wrong but decided to hang around. Perfect timing since there was a Skate Contest happening. While I took in the great tricks, I also learned of the history of this great place hidden in a corner of Jax. Makes sense why I saw so many out of state tags in the parking lot. Lots of moms out supporting their sons while you saw crazy falls, flips, bruises, etc. These guys are tough and serious. Definitely doesn't seem like an amateur ... beginners park. It's rough! Cracks in the concrete! Unpaved parking lot. This place has taken a beating. But a great place to become a skate rat and people seem to love it. I'll stick with just watching.

I was in town only for a short time to see a friend, but I wanted to make sure to stop by. Kona is legendary and there's pretty much something for everyone... mellow bowls, mini-ramp with a spine, street section, pool, monster vert ramp, a kidney pool and my fav, the two snake runs, which are pretty much all I rode. There's a pro-shop if you need gear. I wish they had more Kona gear (were all out of medium t's in the raglan style and no hats), but that's not worth docking them a star. There's a spectator area for parents, wives, etc. and they rent pads if you're like me and didn't have room for your helmet on the plane. Worth the $12 I paid for sure, but I believe it's cheaper if you plan on returning, buy a membership, etc.

I was skating Kona before it opened back in the 70's. I was a lifeguard (at jax bch) with one of the designers. The place was rad when it first opened. It quickly died because there was no vert (vertical) walls anywhere. So they built the tombstone. They did a pretty lousy job back then. It had a major kink (bump) in it. The snake run was awesome and you could really create a lot of speed and use a lot of your surfing moves while going down the run. There were many contest way back when and it's where I turned pro. Back in those days if you won money you automatically turned pro. It closed and they dumped tons of sand in it and it was a bitch getting it all out. It was Jacksonville's first skate park and it is still an icon in the skating world. Now I have seen a lot of really good skaters there and more have come out of Kona. The whole Dogtown gang was out here for the first ever pro-am contest. It was a true test for all of us local skaters. Today the place has improved a bunch when they added a half pipe and put a pool in the end of the J bowl. We were asking for that back in the late 70's. Now you can take your kid and skating in great workout and you might learn a thing or two from the kids. They rip.

My Son loves this park. Bit of a drive for us from Orlando, but totally worth it for the different options for skaters, and the very cool vibe of acceptance for everyone (skaters, scooter kids, bikers).
