I hesitate to sound too effusive in a review, but this last minute decision turned out to be a great call. The ambiance here is very cute, currently (as of 11/23/24) in a Christmas theme with a specialty menu for the season. This menu has so many warming options with lots of flavor that perfectly complemented the chilly weather we were having. Despite not being listed, I was still able to try the namesake Forgotten Tonic from the standard menu. The carbonated blend of gin and chartreuse--alongside genepy, lime zest, and quinine--is wildly flavorful and refreshing; I cannot recommend it enough as a great starting point when sampling their broad range of intriguing cocktails. My partner enjoyed the Christmapolitan which was a play on your standard Cosmo, but accented with spiced cranberry, rosemary, and anise. The food was outstanding and arrived from the kitchen in a pleasingly short amount of time. We first shared the Montenegro meatballs which I highly recommend. The herbal liqueur used in the preparation was evident and added a lot of depth to a typical meatball, and the Boursin cream sauce was delectable! I liked it so much, I was still mopping it up with bits of our main course. I had the chicken thigh sandwich with a side of roasted root vegetables. The chicken was juicy and well roasted, with the really tasty skin on, and the pretzel bun was impeccably toasted. Even the sliced tomato, something that most places might consider an afterthought, was perfectly ripe and bursting with flavor. My partner's main was the duck pappardelle... wow! The broth it came in was so rich and luscious, but the real star for me there was the tender, savory duck.None of this would really matter if the service sucked, but thankfully it was probably the best part of the experience. Shout out to Ella and Alexis who were both super personable, friendly, really knowledgeable about the menu and mixed some great cocktails. They are both a credit to the establishment. If you find yourself in historic St. Augustine and are looking for a fantastic dining option, look no further. I can't imagine that you'd be disappointed with Forgotten Tonic.
