Food had flavor. Drinks were okay not to sweet. I ordered nachos which came with beans not a bean in sight. Was told it was underneath the mountain of nachos. I should have had to search for beans that seem like I spoon full on my plate. Tacos were tasty which I see they are known for. Customer service when we came in and as good then it died inattentive. This place is good just for take out nothing more than that. I do want to taste their pastries. Salsa that came with the chips was not it. I will try it again for the yummy tacos.

Tienda El Castillo Taqueria and Bakery is a somewhat small place in a definitely smallshopping plaza located on the corner of Lenox Avenue and Lane Avenue. Walking in, to the left is a small market and a few baked goods. To the right is where you can order food.I just wanted to get a try of the place and ordered a chorizo taco. The taco was $2.50 before tax and tip. Not really a bad price. I came out relatively fast and I took it out to my car and enjoyed a quick snack. While it was not bad, I thought it was a little scant in what they were giving you and I have definitely had better. Not only around the State of Florida, but in Jacksonville itself. If you were over here in this neighborhood and dying for a taco, there is nothing wrong with coming here. You will enjoy your meal. I would not take a special trip over this way, however.I have decided to give it three stars for the simple reason that I found the place average. There is nothing wrong with it, however it is not the kind of place that I will be dreaming about at night or raving to my friends about and insisting we take a road trip there.

I really wanted to try this place and made two attempts to come here, actually to communicate with someone here and that didn't even happen. We were at Romona Flea Market and we can pass this place on the way home, sorta. I called this place to put in an order since I noticed the other reviews stated the food takes a while to be ready and we have a toddler so I almost always call in my orders. I called and some guy picked up and asked if I would hold, 7-10 minutes later still on hold I hung up and called back only to get a busy tone. I called a few more times in the span of like 10 minutes and constant busy tones. The next day or two after I tried to call again since I was going to be in the area and more busy dial tones, even after several attempts. Their tacos could be banging but there's a few other taco joints that are closer to home that'll pick up their phone for a to-go order. It's 2020 and this place probably still uses dial-up.

Now, I believe this would be a sister restaurant to the El Castillo on Old St. Augustine Road. Same logo, same owners, etc. Since I noticed them setting up shop, I had waited with great anticipation for them to open for business. The words "Taqueria and Bakery" pulled on my heartsrings, what can I say. It's situated in a tiny strip mall, connected to the El Castillo food store. I took pictures of the menu and as you can see, there's a mouth watering variety of Mexican street food to tempt your tastebuds, even a breakfast menu that's served all day. The baked goods (breads, conchas, cakes, etc.) come from the El Castillo bakery across the street, where everything is made fresh daily. On my first visit, they were still in their soft opening phase and not everything on the menu was available, so I decided to try 2 of their tacos (asada and al pastor). The corn tortillas were steamy and fresh tasting, and honestly one taco was just as delicious as the other. I had, however, ordered them "gringo style" with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream, but maybe because of the language barrier I was served traditional style tacos. No biggie, they were tasty enough as they were. I revisited a week later and ordered the Carnitas Torta (pork sandwich), gringo style, which also includes avocado. The food is made to order and takes a bit to prepare, so be willing to wait. The Torta is a sandwich fit for a king, containing hearty layers of shredded pork and piled high with fresh veggies and drizzled with sour cream. I barely finished this, thankfully I was famished when I stopped in that day or I wouldn't have stood a chance. There's a small dining area with 6, maybe 7 tables and it tends to get busy in the afternoons, especially after working hours. The young lady at the register speaks English, but the two ladies in the kitchen, not so much. I pretty much point to what I'd like on the menu and it works out. I'll be back to try out their breakfast offerings in the near future, I could sure go for some homemade Chilaquiles! Till next time, Yeeps, support your local businesses and as always...SYOY!

They used to have a taco truck on the outside called La Perla (if I'm correct) but now it's integrated within the store in that plaza across the street from the 7Eleven off of Lenox and Lane. I remember one of my friends talking about how good the taco truck was but I've never had to try them out. I finally went to check out this place and it's like a little hole in the wall. It's worth checking out in my opinion. The variety of meats for the tacos are full of flavor. I got the al pastor, lengua, and asada the first round and I eventually came back for some more al pastor and lengua alongside some chorizo since they didn't have it the first time. You can't ever go wrong with authentic tacos, simplicity with a flavorful kick is what you need! The red sauce has the perfect kick to it. Not sure if it has habanero or what, but it does tend to get spicier as I eat it. The verde sauce is on point too. I'm very biased towards verde sauce tho. I love the tart but spiciness combo. They do get busy on a Friday night and it was a bit of a wait but I'm not so sure about the weekend's occupancy though. The only thing I had an issue with was the lady never called for me for both my orders so I truly didn't know how long I was waiting the first time there was just me and another guy but the second time I was waiting for awhile until I decided to go up to the counter. However I hope it won't be a consistent issue. I think they just need a number system or something to know when your order is ready.

Delicious authentic Mexican food. Small, half grocery, half order and sit restaurant. Clean bathrooms too. Food is delicious and the cook is sweet. I ordered a sope and chicken tacos. Delicious! My husband ordered a Torta and he loved it. The horchata was so refreshing and yummy. Definitely favorite place to eat tacos. Forgot to take pictures because we were so hungry we ate right when the food arrived which did not take long.
