Deerwood Country Club

The golf course has always been fantastic. The fairways and greens always look nice and play well. There are multiple sets of tees for all levels of experience. There is a fair amount of water spread throughout the course. Well placed bunkers and ruff. Note that it is a private course and you need to play with a member.The practice facilities are outstanding. There are two practice putting greens, two chipping greens with a bunker, and a large driving range. The clubhouse has a nice pro shop with plenty of options. There is a nineteenth hole restaurant with good food. There is also a banquet hall. There is a swimming pool and tennis courts.

Went to a friends wedding a few months ago. I'm going to get right to it. Their wedding was BEAUTIFUL! As the bride is walking down the isle guess what's going on at the pool right on the side of the club?! Loud loud music. I was livid for the bride! How was there no one who is in charge of the club not racing over there to nicely ask for the music to be turned off for literally 5 minutes???! I believe it was Selena Gomez on the radio. The attention was immediately taken off the bride as it was so loud and obnoxious. If I were in that situation I would have 100% made a big stink over it. I understand the pool is in a public part of the gated community but there still should have been something done for 5 minutes for the couple getting married. Other than that I would say they need a small face lift and update a few things and they will be top notch.

We recently chose Deerwood for my Daughters wedding, what a great decision!!The wedding area is extremely scenic with the backdrop of the lake, the cocktail hours out on the veranda is spacious and inviting.Denise Brilli the catering manager was amazing to work with and doubled as a quasi wedding planner, lots of good recommendations. The food (Salmon and Filet) was as good as any steak house and the cake was amazing.Kudos to the entire team at Deerwood for making a special occasion absolutely perfect!

Great private community, beautiful golf course located in central Jacksonville on south side Blvd. The golf course is private so you have to know some one to get on to play. The food is great and good bar. They host alot of private events and a great location in case you were needing to do an event yourself.

I was invited to play a charity golf event at Deerwood and it was wonderful the course was very nice and the staff even better. They took great care of all the players during the tournament. I will definitely return if invited again. Rich

I played this course today I feel like a better person for having done so! This is a private golf course and is not normally played by the likes of me so I was thankful to begin with. I get there and sign in at the clubhouse and the difference was apparent right away. The clubhouse attendant was happy that I was there eventhough he had never seen me there before and knew I was a guest of one of the employees there (read; not a big balla). They have free range balls and the distances are measured everday by someone with a distance finder so it's accurate to the day. The tee boxes are all level with no dirt patches. The fairways were lush and well kept. Lots of undulations. They even use a blower on the fairways to blow away all the debris, leaves, sticks, bird crap that accumulates thoughout the day. I freaking blower!! The bunkers were all well kept with beach soft sand and no little pebbles or rocks. Being that this course is in Florida and its the middle of summer the fact there were no brown burnt spots on any of the greens is just short of a water to wine mircale in and of itself.I didn't play my best today and was willing and ready to play another round just to be out there for a little longer. Add this course to your Jacksonville golf course bucket list if you are into that kind of thing.

Tucked inside of the oldest private community in Jacksonville FL, is the "Club." The restaurant is nostalgic. The food is second to none. I know it firsthand; I've eaten there several times. Most often I have enjoyed a complete dining experience, but in my most recent visit I was left stunned. I have been to the Club many times and most times I and my guests will be the only people of color in the restaurant. It does not bother me. I am a patron. In my most recent visit, however, my guest and I watched as a server in her 20's made every effort not to serve us. She refused to come to our table, refused to serve us, refused to have any interaction with us, and even refused to make eye contact with us. This server and the manager were handling the restaurant. It was doable because there weren't many people. After the managers seated us and brought over our drinks, we sat for longer than I remember waiting for the server to come take our order. I motioned to the manager. We asked could we order and he replied in shock, "You mean she hasn't been over...?" His voice trailed off, but the understanding was clear. Again, the restaurant was not full. Even when a couple came in a great while after us, the server went right over to them, passing near where we were, but never looking our way. I tried to catch her eye; she made a great effort to look the other way. The manager covered for her well, just not well enough. When the food came, she would not bring it. We needed refills; the manager had to get them. When my guest and I left, I stepped right outside the door and turned around, confirming what I knew was true. This server rushed over to our former table to clear it off. She resembled someone fumigating an infected area or someone scraping gum off the bottom of their shoe."So you can come to the table" I thought. This usually does not affect me so deeply. I have seen this level of bigotry in people who have lived long enough and are deeply rooted in their hatred. I have never seen this vile mindset up close in the offspring of these people. This girl was so young yet so skilled in her ignorance. I left there feeling like, I'm sure she would like us if she met us. I have had wonderful meals at this place. I have had some great servers as well, but I could not help but wonder if in the times I have been there and the manager had to serve us, was it because...?
