The wild horses and serene beach are totally worth the trip! Yeah. It can get a little expensive with the ferry and entrance fees, but it's something def worthwhile. The horses were so calm. They did allow for folks to come by and take pictures. I was a little apprehensive about approaching so close, but they didn't mind as they prob see tourists day in and day out. Don't make loud noises or strange gestures to startle them, and I'm pretty sure they won't disturb you back. The architecture and ruins left behind were magnificent to stare upon. Just imagining the wealth that these people had to throw around was mind boggling. Though the island had some pretty neat things to see, reading about the history was interesting. The beach area was really serene and undisturbed. There were so many shells and starfishes to be found. And I can see why since it's not disturbed by too many people, seaweed, or debris. The vines with flowers on them were neat, and you might even see some ghost crabs scurrying around.Bring something to entertain yourself with because if you're not going swimming, it's going to be a long day. Plus, the rain can get heavy so bring an umbrella and rain jacket. The umbrella did not cut it so I had to throw on a poncho. If you get wet by the rain, it's pretty miserable so bring a change of clothes. And don't forget water, snacks, and sunscreen!

I was a little skeptical of the ferry fee and entrance fee but the trip was definitely worth it. The fees were more expensive than our hotel at Days Inn. People come here for the wild horses but there are other animals you'll see. The wild horses were calm and we stood about 20 feet away and took plenty of pictures. They are probably use to tourists. I'm sure you'll be find if you don't make fast gestures or loud noises. The recommended walk took up most of our time. My wife had a good time picking up shells and starfishes. We saw a horseshoe crab, wild turkeys, a manatee, some crabs, and some weird looking birds.Would I come here again?Probably. I would love to camp and bring a bicycle for one day.

Decided to take a day trip out to Cumberland island. I made reservations online which was super easy. Decided to take the early ferry out and last ferry in. Got to the St. Marys dock at about 8am and it was already crowded. We checked in and found out there were 2 cancelations on the Lands and Legacy tour so was able to pay for 2 spots and so happy we did this tour. I had previously been to Cumberland and had done the 4 to 5 mile hike around the Dungeness ruins but this tour would take us to the other side of the island that wouldn't be possible to see on a day trip. The roads are unpaved so the tour van can only travel at 10 miles per hour. It's bumpy but not terrible and you get to see tons of wildlife on the way. The stops include the 1st African American church on the island which is actually the site where John Kennedy Jr got married to Caroline. We also visited the Plum Orchard mansion which was absolutely beautiful and to my surprise the tour ended at the Dungeness ruins. Our tour guide Kathy was extremely knowledgeable and fun. She kept us on time and on a schedule. We were able to picnic outside the Plum Orchard mansion. Got to see plenty of wild horses, turkeys, deer, a tiny new born baby fawn , raccoons, armadillos and so many birds. Make sure to bring a lunch and plenty of water. Bring bug spray and sunscreen. We had such a great time.

Probably the best most historically informative tour i have been on to date. I never realized this island was connected to so much history...Having an excellent knowledgable guide like Mike was a big part of that as well. I highly recommend for all ages.

The Land and Legacies tour was fabulous. Bill was amazing! He knew so much and had the entire bus involved in the stories. We learned a lot about the island and the families who live(d) on the island. We started at the Sea Camp Ranger Station. We got to see both cultural and natural landmarks, including the remains of Robert Stafford's plantation and cemetery, Plum Orchard Mansion, Cumberland Wharf, the Settlement, and First African Baptist Church. We even had time to see the Dungeness remains. We also saw a lot of wildlife including deer, horses, armadillos and a raccoon. We were not disappointed and are so glad we got the chance to take this tour. It is worth it and the best way to see everything in a short amount of time. There is more to do on the island but this was a great starter tour or a great way to see a lot in one day.

Cumberland Island National park is beautiful, but this isn't it. This is where you pick up the ferry to take you to Cumberland island. There didn't appear to be anywhere to buy a ticket like a counter so suggest to get yours online. There's plenty of parking either on street or in the lot across the street. If taking the ferry, pack in everything you need. There is no food or drink really on the island. The island itself is beautiful. Lots of walking so wear the right shoes. We even saw two armadillos,
