This is probably the best little hole in the wall style seafood place in jax. Service is great. Location on waterway and food is great. Started off with a beer and ordered flounder and shrimp combo. With Brussel sprouts side. All very good. The number of shrimp was great. Good service and great food. Definitely will be back.

After driving past this place for YEARS to get to either Sandollar or Palm's, I stopped in tonight. And now I'm kicking myself repeatedly!Chowder Ted's isn't a large place. Come right in and seat yourself. You'll find reasonable beer and wine prices, regulars enjoying their spot, and GREAT food!I asked my server what to order, and her first suggestion was the Ahi Tuna- which I love but I had for lunch. So her second suggestion was the Red Rock Shrimp. 10/10 would recommend to a friend. The flavor is amazing- and Chowder Ted's does the amazing thing I have rarely seen and they DEVEIN the shrimp before steaming. The result is an easy to peel, deliciously clean shrimp. All the sides are add-on, and I ordered the onion rings. Delicious, perfectly cooked. Again, would highly recommend. The location is beautiful, the food is fantastic, service is amazing. Stop driving past this place! Going to be kicking myself for a long time to come

We had a friend in town and wanted to get some dinner close by. Chowder Ted's was a 10 minute drive so we decided to give them a try.We walked in on a weekday evening and they weren't too busy, only a couple occupied tables. Our server came over and we placed our beer order and a conch fritter appetizer. I liked the local brewery beer options they had. The conch fritters were pretty good, decent amount of conch and good dipping sauce.Hubby and I ordered a seafood platter with grouper and Cajun fries to share since it sounded like it would be plenty. Our friend order some wings. Our food took a bit longer than expected to come out. The seafood platter was large and came with a fried grouper filet, fried scallops and fried shrimp. The grouper was good, flaky with a nice breading. The scallops were small and a little gritty. We thought the shrimp were the best thing on the plate. The Cajun fries were also really good. Our friend found a hair on his wings, he thought that the wings were ok. Not the best, not the worst. The hair may have had something to do with it.Overall, I thought they had good beer and decent food. Not sure if we will be back.

We decided to try Chowder Ted's after it was written up as one of the best Seafood Hidden Gems. Very unassuming presence both inside and outside but they make up for in flavor and service.Their chowder is a Manhattan Style tomato based variation with tons of flavor and also green olives which I loved. The Crab Cake plate for $10.95 is the perfect lunch if you're not trying to fill up to too much. Super flavor and a good value for the price Miranda is a rockstar waitress who has tons of energy and knows the menu very well!

Great to be back at Chowder Ted's! I feel like it has been at least 4 or even 5 years since we have been to Chowder Ted's which I know feel like a sin. We arrived around 5:15PM on a Saturday and were able to get a table. We really lucked out since their isn't a lot of seating inside and it was chilly out and being on the water also brings in the wind. Our waitress came to check out on and we noticed they do take credit cards now which is very helpful. We ordered some draft beers and $4.50 for imports is great. Plus $2.75 for 16oz PBR's you aren't going to beat that.We looked over the menu and they had added more to it since last time. If course the OG's are still there but it's nice to have more options. Our waitress did let us know that they were out of Crab Cakes and Chowder which was a bummer but that's how you know how fresh everything is. Don't help that we got there past 5:00PM either. We of course had to get the Conch Fritters for an appetizer. I will say their Conch Fritters are the best I have ever had still. They are even beating the ones in the Keys for me. I decided to get something new for my entrée and went for the Fried Seafood Platter. The Fried Seafood Platter comes with Shrimp, Scallops (Bay Scallops), and Fish (I believe it was Tilapia. Our food came out within 10 to 15 minutes and my platter was huge. I couldn't believe they even had more shrimp and scallops under the fish too. What really stuck out to me was that the shrimp were lightly battered which was great. Everything was so fresh that I of course finished it all up. Ashley also got the Cocktail Sauce were we both agree was the best we had ever had. They for sure use a good amount of Horseradish cause it had some kick. I will say there was a $2.50 service charge I'm guessing for using a credit card so just a heads up if that's gonna break you then bring cash. I can't wait to come back and it will for sure be sooner then 4 to 5 years.

FREE BEER TOMORROW!!!...and very delicious seafood served by friendly, cheerful staff in a fun local restaurant with a down-home country ambiance. Located on the St. Johns River across from the north side of Blount Island Marine Terminal, Chowder Ted's is a short, pleasant drive away from the traffic of Jacksonville. The first thing we noticed while waiting to be seated was how big all the servings are. We began with a pot to share of their namesake's chowder, and it lived up to it's name. (I'm glad it did because my name is Ted, too.) The chowder is in a spicy broth with big chunks of potato, clams, and tomato, and it's so good that next time I'm getting my own pot of it as a meal - yummy! There's a wide variety of appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees, including big cheeseburgers in case you came to a chowder house but don't like seafood.(WTF?) We settled on the fried flounder sandwich, which was delivered with a side of very tasty, freshly made coleslaw. The sandwich was piled high with 3 filets of perfectly fried, golden brown fish, so large it was hanging over the edges of the large bun. It was dressed with lettuce, tomato, and a very tasty sauce on the bun.The servers are so friendly, and the vibe inside is like a neighborhood restaurant full of regulars. Get over to Chowder Ted's right now!! They are open Tuesday through Saturday. You will be glad you came.

This was my second time eating here, I will say after me asking that the food not be over cooked it came out much better looking! The shrimp were perfectly cooked. The onion rings still a little overcooked, considering they were $5.75 they should have been perfect. As for the flounder definitely over cooked and didn't have any seasoning to it at all... I think for this thirty dollar lunch this will be my last visit here.

The front room upon entry was small and air conditioned. There are only a few tables and none were big enough for 5 people. We were told there were more tables in the back. We went to the back and sat down, but soon realized it was around 80 degrees in there. I didn't keep an eye on the clock, but it took an hour and ten minutes from beginning to end to get a coke and sandwich/po'boy for 5.Food was mediocre (2-3). Waitress was very nice, but overworked.I don't know why the rating at the time is this review was 4.4...no idea.

Service is great! My husband loves the chowder - which is good, I just don't know if it's 5 star good. I had the seared tuna salad and my tuna steak was tough. It has a very wonderful beachy feel!

This has the ambiance of a fish camp. It is on the water with a small dock, the inside is a bit plain except the ocean decor. Tables and chairs are very basic and the servers are jeans and t-shirts.... But basic ends there!!!The chowder is seafood, not just clam. It is red and served in a crock or a tin bucket. If you order this for a meal it is to much, if you split it with one other person you should split the meal too. I would never go to Chowder Ted's and not order this. It's in the name so it should be good.I usually get the oyster Po Boy or the burger. The Po Boy is stuffed with oysters then topped with lettuce, tomato and maybe a remoulade sauce. Delicious!! The burger is huge, I have never finished one but I also order the chowder so I put myself at a disadvantage.Try this place, you won't be sorry.
