Buccaneers Jamaican Street Jerk

Wow! Don't sleep on Escovitch Fish. It is awesome. Great authentic Jamaican food! I will be back for more.

I was at the OP mall and looking for somewhere nearby to eat. Lately Jax has been a miss when it comes to Jamaican food so I'm trying to find a place to feel the void for me when I'm not able to make it downsouth. I opened the Yelp app and searched. Up popped Buccaneers. I looked at the reviews and figured I'd give it a try. Although by description it seemed it would be hard to find, I found it no problem. There is no brick and mortor so if you want to eat there, make room in your car. The place is a trailer and 2 grills out front which I'm fine with because some of the smaller places have the best food. I decided to order curry chicken for myself and my husband only to be told there was only enough for one curry so I opted for brown stew chicken. Both meals came with cabbage and rice and peas. I should have opted for gravy on my rice and peas because they were dry, tasty but dry. The brown stew chicken was cooked down in a good way, very tender. But the flavor was lacking. I tried my husband's curry and it also didn't hit with the flavor for me. The cabbage was good. It was shredded up so that was different. I also ordered a side of the Mac and cheese bake. Which I would have left it there. It has a strong Velveeta or some sort of cheese that my palate does not agree with. If I'm in the area I may opt for a small curry chicken but I definitely will not travel out my way for this. The portion sizes were good though. The owner working the window was kind and made suggestions for me. The music was good also.

Finally had an opportunity to try Buccaneers Jamaican Street Jerk. It is kind of hidden away behind another building so keep looking! First, even before you leave your car, the aroma is wafting out of their tiny little building and your stomach starts growling immediately. Wow did it smell delicious. I wasn't sure what to choose from all of the amazing dishes, and they offered me a sample of their Jerk Pork. So full of flavor. I decided to just start at the top with the Jerk Chicken plate - small. Comes with rice or rice & beans and steamed cabbage. There is nowhere to eat on site, and by the time I got home it was still steaming hot and amazing. Jerk seasoning was on point. Not too hot. Gravy on the rice was their oxtail gravy and it was so good. I will definitely be back. For some dishes (fish ones in particular) it is best to do a call ahead since they take more time. They also have a daily lunch special, which I believe is from 11-2.

Good Jamaican food if you like that cuisine.Ox tail is my favorite with rice, beans and fried cabbage.Family owned and cook the food. The cooks are friendly and want to please you.There are many options on the menu. Take out only.

Order 2 large sides and they were delicious! Rice, peas and cabbage...cocoa bread and patty's

I only go for the beef patties and coco bread and are great every time. Staff is friendly and the place is kinda hidden behind the little store.

Ive tried them twice, both times the food was not that good. Both people that run it were not to friendly either. I am disappointed because I love Jamaican food.

tasty, tasty, tasty! this place does not disappoint.. food looks fresh, looks amazing and is so delicious. we had the oxtail and curried chicken. absolutely delicious. thanks!

Listen if ya live in JACKSONVILLE OR SURROUNDING AREAS or ya just stopping through you'd be remiss not to enjoy the most authentic fresh Jamaican cuisine. This is a hidden GEM. Service is gracious. All smiles. My mother and I got to try the soup sample and we were sold (x2). We also ordered the jerk pork meal and an oxtail meal; all three were delicious and fresh! Hot off the grill. Fresh out the pot! We washed our meals down with the refreshing pineapple ginger drinks. I'm satisfied and will make this my go to spot when I'm desiring Jamaican food! Great job yah mon,

Best Jamaica food in OP/Middleburg/Jax area. Quick service, friendly staff & amazing flavors specific to Jamaican cuisine. Best oxtail I've had in years, cabbage is flavorful and still has some crunch (I don't like soggy cabbage) & rice & beans are things dreams are made of. I will continue to frequent this establishment & hope others will do so as well
