Nice, clean friendly environment. They welcome me and my family. The lady at the front desk is incredible in the afternoons. She calls me by my name. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great gym in Fleming Island.

This place is ok. The carpet and gym equipment looks like it's from the 70's, like a real retro fitness. The Y pricing is income based, so if you make a decent wage and don't have kids then you will be subsidizing someone else's membership. All rooms with the exception of the main gym are reserved for classes only. This leaves a very small area for doing abs or other body weight exercises. Kids have been known to escape the Kid Zone and run like it's a prison break. Staff are friendly and patrons are quality people. I feel like the back lawn area could be utilized with pull up bars and cross fit type equipment. When rooms aren't being utilized by classes, they should be open for use. For $75, I need more bang for the buck. Lastly, there isn't much of a phone signal inside and the free WiFi is weak.

Nice crowd, most employees are nice but needs some TLC in the weight room. The rug is old & very dirty. It desperately needs a good vacuuming & shampooing. It's so disgusting. I see the same little pieces of dirt all week in the same areas so vacuuming is not being done. They definitely new carpeting. They took away the coffee in the morning which everyone looked forward to. Just charging more and more and getting less and less. Wake up manager do something about the cleaning of this place!!!!!

On May 22, 2019, I registered my 9 year old daughter for the one week summer volleyball camp (7/15-7/19) and the one week basketball camp (7/22-7/26). I paid in full as requested, with no problems. During the registration process, I clearly advised the YMCA representative my daughter has never played either sport and I am enrolling her to learn the basic skills of the sports. The representative clearly stated to me, "That is the way we prefer it that way, so she can be taught the basic skills correctly, with no bad habits." On Friday, July 12th I 4:30 p.m. I received a phone call from a YMCA representative that they had to cancel the volleyball camp due to there were not enough children who signed up. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, after I had already purchased the knee pads, new tennis shoes, etc. On Monday, July 23rd, I took my 9-year old daughter for the basketball camp and she was so excited. The two "high school aged coaches" were in the gym at 8:50 a.m. when we arrived Not to mention any names, one of the coaches were seated at the table at the far in the gym on her phone. I stood at the far end of the gym by the table and neither of the coaches said a single word to us. Neither said hello, welcome, who are you, my name is, etc. Which I immediately thought was a little strange. So, immediately I was somewhat reluctant with leaving my child with these two coaches. When I went back to pick my daughter up at 11:50 a.m. I walked into the gym and saw my daughter and another small boy at the far end of the gym shooting all alone while all of the others were playing "street ball". After arriving home, I noticed she was crying and began asking me, "Please don't make me go back there anymore." After speaking with her, she advised me the coaches were not friendly at all (which I observed personally for myself). She told me the coaches made her sit on the floor the entire time while the rest of the kids played a game of basketball and never once put her in. She was completely heartbroken, embarrassed and humiliated. I immediately called and spoke to Cindy at the YMCA. She was nice and polite and offered me a refund, which I should have accepted, but I did not. I told Cindy that was not what I was calling for. I thought my daughter was going to be taught the basic skills, as I was advised she would be and to be included in the game. My daughter continued to attend the camp for next 4 days, as she is not a quitter. Needleless to say the two coaches never once spoke to me, in fact you would of thought they were participants in the basketball camp and NOT the leaders. After the horrific first day, I continued to question her. My daughter told me the coaches told her to do a lay up and a foul shot. She had no idea what a lay up was or a foul shot. The coaches told her never mind and left her out. At one point she said she thought the coaches were laughing at her shooting. Because she does not know how to shoot the correct way. They could not even and did not even take the time or effort to show her, work with her or teach her how to correctly shoot a basketball, do a lay up or a foul shot. She said, when they were not actually playing street ball with the older kids, they were on the phones continuously throughout the week. Why would the YMCA have (regardless if they are volunteers or paid) these two high school aged girls playing (because there was no coaching)? It was totally a baby-sitting gig for these two girls. I am discussed, furious and not to mention heart broken for my daughter who was so excited about attending this basketball camp to learn drills and just some basic skills of the game. She was totally humiliated and embarrassed and now wants nothing to do with the game. I will never again enroll my child in any program offered here. I will inform anyone and everyone I know what a horrific experience my daughter had. What a total waste of $144.00. Not to mention the heartbreak of a 9-year old.
