Barbara Jean's On The Water

My husband and I took both mothers out to dinner on a Sunday evening. Much to our surprise, the restaurant was extremely slow when we walked in. It took a good 3-4 minutes before the hostess noticed we were waiting for a seat. Several employees walked past us during that 3-4 minutes without saying a word to us! Because of this, we almost turned and walked out without dinner. As we were deciding, our server, Isabella, came to the rescue. We were seated directly behind the server station and Isabella was a rockstar! It's not easy to put up with so many different personalities at the same table. She didn't miss a beat! Our food came out fairly quickly after ordering. It all came out exactly as ordered! The sugar was flavored with a little tea (intended to be written that way!) 3 of the 4 of us had to take a 'doggie bag' home! I don't think the moms left a morsel of the pumpkin bread on the table! Highly highly highly recommend Barbara Jeans on the water!!

I'll be honest...I've been to Barbara Jean's many times over the years. If I want good food, good service in a fairly pedestrian environment, this is the place.But, if I want a hopping place, with food that wows you and an "experience," I'd likely hit the place next door.But, on Friday night, the place next door was PACKED. So I settled for Barbara Jean's. Now, "settled" is not quite fair. They make an incredible crab cake. But the rest is just good food. Plus, they stop taking orders at 8:30pm. Who stops serving at 8:30pm? And, what's worse, starting about 8:15pm, the staff was in full clean up and close mode. There were other diners in the restaurant and I felt like we were being rushed out. No time to really enjoy my meal and company.I'd say Barbara Jean's for a really good lunch...and, if the weather's nice...on their deck looking over the water. For dinner...make reservations at the place next door.

When traveling you always are in search of a great meal "eat where the locals do", well we found it. Barbara Jeans is amazing everyone is really nice and helpful with suggestions. We started off with Fish Bites which are aLightly breaded pieces of Cod, absolutely light and delicious, no need for tartar sauce the flavor was perfect. House salad was full of veggies and very fresh. I ordered a Crab Cake with Baked Potato and Stewed Tomatoes WOW I've never had a Crab Cake that was so full of big pieces of crab. No filling in here, it was so very good I didn't want to share. They serve dinners with a basket of bread which consist of Pumpkin Bread, Corn Bread and a delicious Roll. The Key Lime Pie was amazing, very moist and tart.This place is amazing they don't take reservations so be ready to wait for a little, yes that's how popular it is.

One we were seated with our large group the service, food, and atmosphere were great. They even helped with our Birthday cake and pictures.

It's a 5/5. Megan took excellent care of us. I had grilled catfish my favorite meal here. So yummy perfectly cooked. I got their dirty rice and rice & broccoli as my two sides. Wife had meatloaf her favorite. Love the bread basket. Great food and service.

After going to the beach nearby, my boyfriend and I wanted some seafood, and I came upon this place on Yelp. It is such a cute little joint on the water & it feels very homey. It's totally dark except for the lights coming from the outdoor seating area. We were lucky enough to sit right by the water and see all the catfish, which was super cool! We also loved how casual it was since we just came from the beach, but some people were more dressed up. They start you off with bread and o m g this bread was SO delicious. I usually don't like bread but I loveddddd this stuff. I got their crab cake, which they say is the best in Jacksonville & my boyfriend got shrimp. The crab cake was ok but not my favorite, I did really like the shrimp though. Our waitress was very sweet too.Definitely a cool spot to check out!

Beautiful location right on the waterway. As a photographer I was in heaven. Sitting on the back deck on the water, we saw plenty of pelicans, a blue heron, egret, and even a bald eagle. Our waitress was great, she knew I was there to take pics but still came to check on us periodically to make sure we did not need anything. We did have some appetizers while we there, and the price to size ratio was phenomenal. We had some coconut shrimp and some loaded French fries. I'm looking to go back and try some of their entrees next.

So good. Best crabcakes around. Love the fish bites. We love the food here. The bread service includes a pumpkin bread that is to die for. All the sides are great!!

No. Just no.If you want drinks- meh maybe. Basically the food and place was a 'please don't waste your time and money' place but if you decide to go- DO NOT ORDER A STEAK. We nicely sent it back due to the cook temperature... the Manager brought it back out and said ' this is OUR medium rare' and gave the steak back to us. Like ... I'm sorry WHAT?? There was no pink at all and what kind of customer service is that?? You brought it back to us?? Unacceptable is not even the right phrase. He did eventually come back out - remove the steak from our ticket and offer us something else .. If you Do decide to go ask for Alex! He's awesome!

This is a neat spot to try out. It has a nice back patio on the water (which was closed due to weather at our visit) and can get quite crowded if you come right at dinner time. Recommend the famous crab cakes & casseroles with the bread basket but my husband said to pass on the chicken fried steak.The pricier meals come with a bread basket that has delicious bread that tastes like cake & butter that is pretty much an orange frosting. The food is good but pricey for simple dishes you can cook at home, so I recommend you try it out and see if you find it worth coming back...
