1928 Cuban Bistro - Ortega

The whole ambience and story of 1928 is why I love to support family businesses. I will never forget the mama coming over to us at the original location and having us sample their soup. She was adorable. Since then, I try and stop in as many locations as I can even if its just for a awesome Café con leche. My favs are those empanadas for sure! Dont forget their dipping sauces....

The restaurant itself is very cute. Love the style of it. I ordered the Cuban, the kids rice and chicken & 2 chicken empanadas. Everything was just okay. I wish everything came out the same time as well. My family was done eating and I was still waiting for my Cuban sandwich for 30 mins. I ended up having to get it to go so I could eat it in the car..

I had a wonderful experience at this Cuban restaurant! The vibe was so welcoming, and the atmosphere was just right. The cashier was incredibly nice and helpful, which made the visit even more enjoyable. I tried the 904 sandwich, and it was amazing--especially the bread, which was unbelievably good! The chicken empanada was packed with filling (I love that they weren't skimpy). The chicken croquette was also good. I tried all three sauces: the cilantro sauce was light and refreshing, the spicy one had a perfect little kick without being overwhelming, and while the mojo wasn't my favorite, it was still tasty. The pastelito guava had a thin layer of guava, but it was still sweet and satisfying. I wish it was packed with more guava. Overall, a great meal and I'll definitely be back!

If you are looking for a good empanada or Cuban coffee I would definitely recommend this place. It's part of a shopping strip near target but it's still a pretty good size. The workers are always moving and doing something, mostly making Cuban sandwiches. I would recommend you call ahead to order as there can be a wait most times. The croquettes were delicious and the empanada was nice and warm when I bit into it. Love their food just gotta plan my visits rather than popping in.

This was a cute spot, simple decor but very inviting. For drink I had the dirty chai, it was a really good chai flavor! For food, I went with appetizers, the guava and cheese pastry, the Cuban empanada, & the cheese pastry. The Cuban empanada with that pickle and mustard sauce was delicious, I instantly regretted not ordering a second! The pastries guava & cheese were very light but equally flavorful. The guava - hands down is my new favorite pastry! Can't wait to go back!!

We've been coming to 1928 Cuban Bistro for a little over a year now. We love it!!! Food is always great as well as consistent. My favorite is the Elena Ruth... Oh my gosh it's good. Today we got the Elena Ruth Sandwich and the Cuban Sloopy Joe. We also got two Cafe Con Leche which was amazingly delicious! This place is definitely one of my wife and I favorite places. We highly recommend 1928 Cuban Bistro!!! Place is always clean and service is always friendly. Thank you 1928 Cuban Bistro for having a good Cuban restaurant in Jacksonville!

The coffee is fantastic and I love the ambiance of this place. There are a few tables inside and some seats at the bar. If you like to sit outside, there are some options for that as well. My usual coffee order is the cortadito. It has that strong coffee flavor but is balanced out by the perfect amount of milk and sugar. My boyfriend always goes with the cortado which we affectionately know as "rocket fuel"--STRONG, but so good. All of their food is so delicious and made fresh. I recommend the croquetas with the green sauce, a medianoche (or any sandwich, really) and some guava and cheese pastries. A recent new item that I tried and really enjoyed was the coco flan. It also pairs surprisingly well with coffee.

Speed of service. They are always out of any pastry we come to get unless we are here first thing in the morning! Very nice staff, but so disappointing.

I ordered a Mezclado sandwich for lunch today. The picture may be underwhelming but the bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. My food was hot all the way through! I've also gone a few other times to order empanadas right out of the hot case. It's always so good!!! I can't wait to go back and try other things.

Exemplary service and great food but the coffee is off the chain. If you're looking for ambiance this is not the place. It's more of a diner. We loved it for the food and the friendly staff.
