Jacks BBQ is unfortunately a Texas size disappointment. Don't know where to start because not only were the sides inedible the meat was dry especially the pulled pork which according to the menu is moist. The sliced brisket was okay. I've had much better. To preface -- this is our fourth visit and I really, really want to love Jacks BBQ because it's close to home and is based off central Texas BBQ. Service is good. It would've been nice if the waiter had asked us why we didn't eat our sides? Yeah I get it. It was starting to get busy but still... The sides: Collard greens -- they were actually decent this visit. But, still no offering of vinegar. Jack, you gotta serve greens with a bottle of Trappey's or Texas Pete Hot Peppers in vinegar!! Macaroni & Cheese - just plain awful. Watery and no flavor except the paprika on top. We couldn't eat it. We were hungry and we really wanted to eat the mac & cheese, but it was that awful ! Somebody help Jack find a really, really good Texas style creamy mac & cheese recipe, please! Coleslaw -- was very, very bland ...needed salt and pepper and would be much better vinegar based without mayo. Lots of room for improvement. Potato Salad -- huge disappointment because I love a good mustard based potato salad... the Dijon mustard was overwhelming. I couldn't take more than two bites of the potato salad. I have never ever been to a bbq restaurant that disappoints me more than Jack's and I truly, truly wanna love this placeThe hush puppies and collard greens this visit were delicious-- I recommend. $70 for two plates (including 2 sides each), basket of hush puppies, two iced teas. Yeah I get it, I'm not in Texas. These are definitely not Texas prices which even hurts more because we paid for sh$&$Y food and we spent $70 plus tip. Ouch! If you're from Texas, and you know what good mac & cheese, and good sides with bbq are all about you're gonna be disappointed. I've tried the pinto beans twice and each time they were inedible -- hard and no flavor!!! Texas beans are so easy to make.. onions, jalapeños, garlic, and bacon. How the blip do you screw up pinto beans and mac & cheese? Does anyone taste the sides before they serve them, seriously? We've decided that we are going to make an adventure out of trying to find the best barbecue in the PNW and in the meantime if I want great barbecue, I'm just gonna have to fly home!

First off, let's talk about the cocktails. The "smoked" old fashioned was $14 and did not have a big ice cube, looked like orange juice had been added to it instead of simple syrup and there was no way it was anywhere near a decent bourbon. Don't put it on your cocktail menu if you can't serve it like 90% of the home bartenders who take an ounce of pride in their old fashioneds. We did the sampler platter called the Picnic. Pretty standard stuff. Brisket was dry though. Everything else was average except for the sausage which was solid. If u crave the flavor of BBQ there isn't anything else in the area like this so it's fine if u need that. If u are expecting BBQ u would get if u went to Charleston, KC, Austin, or St.Louis then look elsewhere.

Want food that's filling and delicious? Passed by a couple times on my drive; First look at the restaurant it looked crazy to me with the cows and all. My spouse and I decided to look at Yelp reviews for a restaurant and remember this local spot we always see. We decided to give it a shot when we were hungry and it was pouring that day!The food here is affordable and the service is good. Meats perfectly smoked and seasoned. Everything's smoked in house and they allow you to go check out their smokers too. The sides were delicious especially the garlic mash potato and Mac and cheese. The brisket was so tender which was a personal fav; but can do without the chicken. Best appetizer choice was the fried jalapeño! Super delicious with everything good; not spicy at all.

Brunch at Jacks BBQ. This is something new for them!I've been here for dinner a couple of times and their BBQ offerings are impressive and are delicious! The Brisket-In-A-Biscuit was awesome. It had jelly that was spicy but not too much and I really liked that surprise! Our waitstaff was not so good or flexible. We had a table of 10 and they were inflexible about ordering or folks moving around the table. I found that odd and not a good experience as far as the customer perspective. I asked for cream for my 2nd cup of coffee (single serve and only 1 per cup were provided). By the time I actually got creamer for my 2nd cup, my coffee was cold (over 15 mins to get the creamer). Sorry, but hot coffee with creamer is important to me.I overlooked the service because the brunch is something new. The food more than made up for the service.I highly recommend Jacks BBQ. Some of the best BBQ I've had. Stop by and try it out!

Last night, I was lured to #algonawa to try out a #texasbbq restaurant. I will say - the theme was definitely #austintexas, but the food was not. I'm an #austintexasnative, and nothing can or ever will compare to #lowandslow #bbq. This was the typical commercial #leanbrisket. The #pnw passes off as #bbq, and because I've consistently been #bamboozled here in the #seattle area with this, I knew what to expect going in so I was settled to the fact of the taste. The flavors were there with the whole BBQ theme. But, not what I grew up knowing & loving. : Jacks BBQ & Steakhouse 35731 W Valley Hwy S, Algona: Brisket BBQ Plate - Brisket + 2 sides (in their defense the meat did pull apart and was tender - I did get a piece of all fat & sent it back & it was replaced quickly) I had the queso Mac n Cheese & Mustard potato salad which was heavy on the Mayo & almost a soup consistency. : The Texas Trinity + 2 sides - I asked for Brisket burnt ends (i love a good charred meat, but this was just the thick seasoning no real char), sausage (delicious) & ribs - pulled right apart. I had the buttermilk Cornbread (kinda tough, cooked hard) & the sweet corn pudding (kinda felt like the end of the night/pan scraps - kinda burnt) : I'd ordered a slice of Peach Cobbler but it was sold out by the time it was dessert serving so I was offered an option of pecan pie or chocolate buttermilk pie - I chose the pecan (it reminded me of a turtles bar which I was happy with - heavy on the pecans). Which was on the house, thank you. I would give them a 6/10. Just because of the commercial BBQ flavor. If you go anywhere in Austin you'll know this is vastly different. But, meets the needs for a BBQ fix. Thank you! I took the leftovers home & made a breakfast hash with the Brisket & it was delicious & redeemed the taste review . #blogger #browngirlbloggers #aroundseattle #southking #southseattle #foodie #foodblogger

If you're looking for fancy, this isn't your jam. If you want really good BBQ, then this is your place. We've lived around here for three years and finally getting around to trying this place and for sure we''ll be back. On a Wednesday night it wasn't crowded so we were seated right away. Super friendly server was happy to answer any questions. They have a pretty extensive menu and even a vegan choice as well as some catfish, which I love and will try the next time. Both hubs and I opted for platters, of course I took half of mine for lunch tomorrow. I got the pork ribs which came with a choice of two sides. I got collard greens cooked with bacon and a had a nice spice and corn bread that came with a huge pat of honey butter. The server told us initially that they don't put sauce on their meat but there are two kinds on the table, one regular and one with spice. Both were delicious. Hubs got a platter called double trouble and he got to pick two choices of meat and two sides. He chose brisket which some people on this site complained about. I took a taste and it was the best I've ever had. He also got two kinds of sausage and his sides were mashed potatoes and chili. He also brought some hoe for tomorrow. The server told us that in the morning between 5-10 a.m they serve breakfast tacos and plan on trying those; they also have brunch on the weekends and that menu also looks wonderful. All in all it was a really good meal

Went on a Saturday lunchtime. It was pretty busy! The hushpuppies were so good and they give you a lot! The honey butter is chef's kiss! I got the brisket plate with 2 sides, Mac and see and corn bread. Again, the honey butter on the corn bread was money!! Mac and cheese was pretty standard. I'd say the brisket was on the drier side, and would've like it more moist and tender. I think this is a good bbq for the PNW, but definitely cannot compare to what I've had in Kansas City and Dallas.

LOVE Jack's bbq! Worth the drive. We have both ordered online for pick up and dined in. Ample parking and easy to pop in and out without a long wait.As a family the trinity 3 meats platter with 2 sides is a great deal. Add on a spicy caesar salad - I wish they bottled the dressing! Kids love the mac n cheese and delicious corn bread.

Superb food, had the chopped brisket sandwich with mustard potato salad. I was impressed how tasty and meaty the sandwich was. No fat on the meat, tender too. Potato salad was fresh and delicious! Had peach cobbler for dessert, my taste buds were in heaven. Best I've had hands down. Waiter was excellent, very attentive and kept our beverages full, our dirty dishes and napkins removed. Always checking on us to see how we were doing. True professionals all around from cooks to server. Very impressed with the whole experience. I was surprised at the price of their alcoholic beverages seemed high to me but I don't go out and drink very often. I would probably skip them next trip.
