The Trough Sandwich Kitchen

We have lived by this restaurant for over 7 yrs and it's our 1st time here. I think it was the name of the restaurant that persuaded us to stay away as we are mostly eat vegetarian food. Today we took a chance...like Columbus did (thx Nanny for that reference). We ordered a mushroom melt and an order of onion rings. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was DELICIOUS! They weren't greasy and didn't taste like it either...if you know what I mean. The onion rings came with ketchup and dill ranch sauce. The value was unreal to what we received! Thank you, Chef Danny! The cozy restaurant had mostly high top tables and a couple booths. Being by the lake, enjoy the freshness with outdoor eating.

Never have I ever eaten such a greasy sandwich. For real. The Trough is just up the street from my house, so it could be a convenient spot. We had an iffy experience here a few years ago, so have stayed away since then.When feeling peckish one afternoon recently, we decided to give them another go. Grease, grease, grease.I probably should have called to complain at the time... but at least based on my pick up experience, it didn't look like there was a manager present. I believe I ordered the cheese steak; looking at the menu, I'm struggling to recall what my husband ordered, but I think it may have been the breakfast burrito.Unfortunately, we won't be giving them another chance. I really love to support local businesses but not when I end up throwing out the majority of the food. 2024: 86/100

The cheesesteak overall was really good. I only wish the bread was a little bit more toasted as the filling made the bread soggy even though I ate it within 15 mins. I also wish it was more cheesy. Most of the filling had fallen out although I still had the other half to eat. Would love to try the other sandwiches!

Great, quick and convenient. Prices are reasonable as well. Food is flavorful and filling.And the coffee , oh so good. I usually drink cream with my coffee to adjust the flavor, but there was so much cream Raemer on the top. I didn't need to add cream.. not sure what type of machine they have on what they use, but it was delicious. The Coffee alone is one of the best cups of coffee besides, next door... Carmelita's restaurant. It was nice to see people walking around the lake, bringing their dogs and kids to enjoy the morning fall weather. Inside is cozy and small. And they make your breakfast burritos exactly how you want them.. one thing they could do to enhance the environment is to put a few more tables outside. It was a little stuffy inside with all the cooking going on. It was a beautiful day outside. Wonderful.

The breakfast here is delightful. I ordered the breakfast burrito, filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, savory sausage, and fresh vegetables wrapped in a warm tortilla. The breakfast torta, a mouthwatering sandwich, featured a perfectly fried egg and rich avocado on crusty bread, creating a delicious combination of flavors. I also went for the zucchini. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff making the experience even more enjoyable.

Nothing better for a hangover than a greasy breakfast burrito - with chorizo - from The Trough! Been my go to for many years here in south OC! God bless DoorDash (have never actually been in the physical restaurant before)

The breakfast burritos are fantastic. Just be careful ordering online, this morning was the second time I ordered breakfast burritos with bacon and avocado and didn't get any bacon. And I definitely got charged for it.

What a great sandwich place!Food quality, service and a relaxed, but small, eating area were all excellent.The "Rachel" sandwich was outstanding. The onion rings are unique: large, thick rings of purple onion with a crispy coating.I was here about a year ago and it was amazing then, too.

Stopped by for a lunch and we decided to share The Rachel, some tots, and zucchini's. The Rachel was flavorful and delicious. The roll was tender and not dense. The zucchini's were nicely fried, but a bit under seasoned. The tots were crispy, but the spicy ketchup was a bit underwhelming. Overall good experience and food.

Breakfast burritos are sooooo good! The sandwiches are great as well. Well above the ordinary!
