Earlier this year I went to Seattle, & spent a lot of time at DeLaurenti Food & Wine, an Italian shop at Pike Place Market. It has all the Italian food, pastas, pastries, cookies, oils, & especially cheeses, that your heart could desire. Being a fan of Gouda cheese with lots of crystals, I spent an exorbitant amount on OG Kristal Gouda, $22/half pound, but figured I'd be unlikely to find it again anywhere else. At the Cheese Shop at the Mix, I was truly surprised & delighted when I asked which of their goudas had the most crystals, & was given the recommendation of the OG Kristal. From what I've seen, not many shops carry this specific Belgian cows milk Gouda, aged around 18 months, each bite which a resounding pop & sparkle of crunchy crystals bursting in your mouth. OG Kristal has nutty, slight sweet, butterscotch notes, the crystals a perfect complement to the flavors of the cheese. In the display case at the mix, you can find it by looking for the giant wheel of Gouda in a red wax. If that wasn't wonderful enough, the price was significantly lower than that of Pike Place (probably because of the tourist prices, but still). The cheesemonger assisting me was very helpful in giving me the best price for quantity, & gave me some wonderful & unexpected ideas for pairing & serving. One of which was thin slices of OG Kristal with truffle honey on crusty bread, or with a thin spread of fruity jam or preserves. I've also heard this cheese pairs well with chocolate or fudge! The Gouda definitely makes an impression & I appreciate the fact that the Cheese Shop sells it, especially for a reasonable price. I also tried the French onion soup & the tomato basil soup, both extraordinary. The French onion was a savory, earthy, herby blend that didn't skimp on the caramelized onions, & the crusty bread with melty provolone on top was the pièce de résistance. My only regret was that I ordered it as a takeout, instead of eating it there on the spot while fresh & piping hot. The tomato basil soup was exactly what you'd expect from a creamy tomato soup, thick & rich texture, deep tomato flavor, the basil actually making an impression on the palate, unlike many other "tomato basil" soups that just taste like watered down tomato paste. A perfect accompaniment for The Gooey grilled cheese, & it traveled well too. I've yet to try more of the cheeses & menu items, there are simply so many to pick from! But go & sample a few of the nicer, harder to find, or more expensive cheeses if you get a chance, because you'll probably find something you love that will be difficult to find anywhere else!

The Cheese Shop never disappoints The ((hot Italian)) sandwich is Absolutely amazing super delicious and perfect when you're in a hurry. And don't get me started on the tomato basil soup paired with a grilled cheese it's simply ((to die for))This spot has become my go-to whenever I need fast, quality food. Highly recommend!This is also the place to get your charcuterie board stuff they have tons of cheeses to choose from.

One of the best sandwiches I've had! This place is located in the OC Mix which resembles a food hall, there are many dining options and seating available indoor and outdoor. The Cheese Spot had many sandwich options and I decided to try out one of their more popular sandwiches, the Hot Italian. The staff hands you a number for your table and delivers it when it's ready. The food is served on a wooden board (which was aesthetically pleasing). I typically judge a sandwich by the bread and the amount of meat, it received a 5 according to my standards.

I asked what to order and was told a sandwich! A sandwich at a cheese shop? It did not disappoint. The sandwich was stellar. Got the Italian sandwich. Also a cheese plate and had it with the wine place in the same area. The lady that works behind the counter is super friendly also. Would come back for another sandwich!

I was driving from SD to LA, and I stopped at a cafe to get caffeine and some breakfast. There was nothing at this silly little roadside joint to eat! I looked on Yelp for a good sandwich and thankfully found this Cheese Shop! My sandwich was incredible! There was a great cheese in there next to slices of a Granny Smith apple, and it was DELICIOUS. Good tastes and good textures joined together to keep me fueled and cheerful for my drive up California highways. If I lived anywhere near this place, I'd go back to get this sandwich again right now. If you can get there, count yourself lucky. (See also: Free Parking.)

Foremost, thank you Josh. Superb service.We were looking for specific aged cheese and were happy to find some. The salami options were few but we were able to pick one.It is a small shop with a bit of seating outside the shop. The shop is located indoors. The building is made of tiny shops like the Cheese Shop. Hope that made sense. This would be a great addition for rainy weather. There were plenty of wine options too. I look forward to revisiting.

We were The Mix doing some shopping and got hungry for lunch. Hopped on Yelp real quick to see what was around and this was the first place I looked at and I was like yup, that's where we are getting lunch. My husband and I both got two different sandwiches so we could try both. We had the California Turkey Love and the Hot Italian. Both were so fantastic, we both agreed we will be coming back anytime we are craving a sandwich and are in the area. Their french baguette's were PERFECTION. I stopped in to the Cheese Shop to grab a bite for lunch. After perusing the menu, I ordered a Caprese Panini (Pesto, Mozzarella, and marianted tomatoes on warm, fresh bread). The sandwich was delicious and really satisfied my hunger :-)Tip: The Cheese Shop is tucked away in a corner of the OC Mix, which contains quite a number of small shops and restaurantsOver and above my sandwich, I tried their salted chocolate chip cookies and found them to be exceptional as well. Just a fantastic shop!!! This is our second time here while shopping in the SoCo furniture stores. My son ordered the Gooey sandwich, my husband ordered the California Love sandwich, and I got a lovely salad with apples and feta. Everything was simply delicious, beautifully presented. This is my son's favorite place to get a perfect grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Wonderful customer service! We will be back!! (Can't wait to try the Italian sandwich.)
