Dined last night with 4 of our dearest friends. We had a table by the fireplace for 6. Perfect for our sharing two bottles of wine and delicious dinner of sole, French onion soup, garlic bread , chicken piccata, steak ,chopped salad and the best chocolate Soufflé ever. John our waiter, was efficient and very patient with us as we tried to pair down the extensive versatile menu.Always a special touch when the mgr Jen and Josh greet you personally and are cool with our party closing the dining room. ( sorry we lingered)One of our best "go to" restaurants!Thank you Tavern at the Mission team.

Tavern at the Mission is a restaurant with a warm and cozy vibe, located across the street from the San Juan Capistrano Mission. One night we went for dinner with a few other couples. I definitely suggest reservations as seating is limited and this is a popular location. You are able to request inside or outside specifically and we sat inside. The vibe inside is contemporary rustic with tile floors and large fireplaces. The food sits on the higher end of the price scale, but is quite tasty. There are offerings for most foodie types, including vegetarian and gluten-free. An extensive wine and drink list and a separate bar area also make it a great place for a casual hangout or a wine and snack pairing. The inside vibe is date-night casual. And our server was energetic We would definitely consider coming back here for a date or a future occasion.

Great ambiance, lovely outside seating. Service was stellar. Parking is paid and a little congested on the weekends. Food was good - nothing out of this world.I had the lobster salad and it was good but very wet. Def a lunch vibe

Wow this place is one of the best in all of old town SJC! The entire restaurant for brunch and dinner is beautiful. MAKE RESERVATIONS. The waiter was extremely friendly. The food portions are huge, and flavorful! ** note the Brussels spouts have bacon. I'm a vegetarian and was not aware of this as not listed in the menu (unfortunately). It was easy to pick out.

Lunch specials were the way to go! Got a half sandwich, salad, and soup for under $25. The interior design of this place is flawless. It's fancy but laid back. The iced tea was fresh! Service was a bit slow but would go again due to how amazing the food was!

Austin was such a great server! He is super welcoming and easy to talk to. I had dinner at the Tavern in San Juan and Austin was my waitor. He catered to all of my requests and was fun! The only thing was that they removed the tree inside the restaurant!

I REALLY love this restaurant! The ambiance on the patio is so wonderful, and in the winter they have heaters over the tables, so you can enjoy it year round. My girlfriend brought her dog along, and our server, Bettie, brought a bowl of water and a treat, too! She was SO fantastic! Being a former food server myself, (at Cedar Creek Inn before it was Tavern at the Mission) I appreciate an attentive server. Not only was Bettie super attentive, but she was funny, and had several excellent suggestions on appetizers and Entrees. My girlfriend and I split the coconut shrimp to start, it was really delicious! Then she had the soup/salad combo with onion soup and half a Monte Cristo sandwich. They also included a good sized spring salad with it, as well! The portions are very generous and really delicious! I ordered the onion soup, another suggestion by Bettie! I really love onion soup, and it didn't disappoint! I had some of my girlfriend's salad as well. Bettie didn't disappoint, coming back regularly to refill drinks, clear plates, and check if we wanted dessert. If you have never been to this restaurant before, save room for dessert! They are homemade and really delicious! Tavern on the Mission is a wonderful option for lunch or dinner in San Juan Capistrano. With a view of their beautiful plants and the Mission as a backdrop, you can't go wrong sitting on the patio! And be sure to ask for Bettie! We lucked out getting her as our server!
