I absolutely love their Sweet Wheat Bread even though I can only find it at Whole Foods occasionally. Full disclosure, I have never actually been to the OC location.

I found this bread at Whole Foods. I get the 9 grain I think it is called. My favorite bread ever. Thick and hearty but tastes really healthy at the same time. I will be loyal customer as long as I live in the area.

In 1969 I lived in Costa Mesa and discovered the "German Home Bakery" - I lived in Orange County until 1973 and almost every Saturday i would drive over to Grace Street and get my German Bread - when I moved back to San Diego in 1973 I had no German Bread - disasterous - however, sometime in 1980's Tip Top Meats opened in Carlsbad and they carried German Bread - but since 1990 I've lived in Las Vegas and German Bread is almost unheard of - We do have a German Bakery but the bread is not like the German Home Bakery - I need to find out if they ship to Vegas - I will need to call them and find out!!

UPDATED 06/20/07: WOW I never thought yelp's exposure was getting this wide. This week, I've been getting a whole bunch of PMs from various sources regarding yelp. One of those was from Sunflour Bakery's owner Kathy who asked me to go into her store so I could give her some opinion regarding her products. When I arrived she immediately was concerned about the review I wrote (see below) and how I didn't like their cookies. Well... I told her that the cookies on that particular day were not good. I told her that I did give her cake a great review though. So Kathy stood up and grabbed one of the decorated cookies from the display and asked me to try it. I opened the package and took a bit off. Hey, it was a sugar cookie with frosting. For a sugar cookie, it was good. Then she nudged us to try the chocolate muffin. Well, for something which had no dairy in it, was vegan, organic, gluten-free etc etc, it was great. The muffin was moist and had wonderful texture. Same with the other one (I didn't get the name of that one) with the swirl in it.I told Kathy "hey these are good, but the one I had when I wrote the original review weren't". As I was told, they do not specialize in cookies, but rather, their focus is on wholesale. Kathy said she was not too concerned about promoting the retail side of it. They do get some foot traffic, but their main focus is on the catering side: wedding cakes, birthday cakes, breads which are sold in stores such as Mother's Market etc. They are the ONLY Kosher bakery in the whole of Orange County.Basically, Kathy was concerned about my less than favorable review, but hey, I didn't give it 1 or 2 stars. I gave it 3 stars. However, I'm impressed with a business owner who took the time to find out what her customer(s) were not happy with and tried to rectify the situation. Plus, the things we sampled today were pretty good. I'm upping my review.4 stars for the products available in the store.5 stars for filling a niche market not served by any other business.4.5 stars total.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Tucked away in a small street amidst a residential area, it was pretty hard to find and even with instructions, we weren't quite sure if we were in the right area. Lil guy was attending a birthday party here so we tagged along. The bakery specializes in cookies and this time of year, in gingerbread houses too. We bought some of the cookies and they weren't all that great in taste however, to be fair, the birthday cake they baked was awesome. The birthday party comprised of plain cookies and the kids would decorate them. They were given baker's hats to wear while decorating the cookies. The kids got bored after about 45 mins and then started running around hitting each other with balloons. The concept is good (kinda like the one I had for lil guy at those paint your own pottery places) but only in theory. The 3 stars is for the cake.

The best all natural bread i have eaten in a while. I love to eat healthy and try new foods and experience new foodie restaurants as much as I can just to enjoy a simple life with food however I am a diabetic at the low end where it can be reversed but every once in a while I will like many many slip up and eat tasteful carbs lol.. its just life and we like what we like but we just have to eat certain foods in moderation . I am so guilty right now because I can't even show a picture of the bread because I ate it all

The best bread out there that's available in a SoCal chain grocer (Whole Foods and others). My only complaint is that the Honey Whole Wheat (our hands down favorite) always sells out immediately, while other breads languish on the shelf. I often travel to both Whole Foods in Santa Monica, and both in Woodland Hills, only to find no Honey Whole Wheat, but plenty of other breads. This has been going on for years, but it is getting worse. Evidently most people prefer the Honey Whole Wheat, but it gets stocked in the same quantities as the others. Whoever is doing the marketing, please take note. You are losing sales!
