The food and service was excellent. Lexus our waitress was very customer friendly and attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and comfortable. The antipasto salad and eggplant parmesan was delicious not to mention the garlic bread which was delicious. I found this place years ago when I was stationed at Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton and still continue to visit when in the area. Introduced my wife to Sonny's and she loves it.I highly recommend this restaurant. Semper Fi!

Amazing homestyle Italian food. Loved the short rib ravioli. Always a long wait so make sure to plan accordingly.

Sonny's has been a locals secret for over 30 years, known only to San Clemente residents and Camp Pendleton Marine Recruits and families. Once you've found it, you've found your favorite Italian restaurant EVER!!Gotta try their Thin Crust Pizza, and Garlic bread - from there you're on your own because EVERYTHING is DELICIOUS and delightful!.....If you see a Table of marines, get the servers attention slip him/her your credit card. It's how locals roll at Sonny's in South County.

Hands down, the best gnocchi ever, especially with the tomato cream sauce!!! First had it in early 2000s, and my wife and I haven't found any better than this.

It has been quite a while since I've been to Sonny's pizza. My husband and I stopped in for a date night and it was just as great as I remembered. The ambiance is a cozy, cute and comfortable. Everyone from the hostess to our waitress was warm and welcoming. The first thing we tried was the homemade sangria. It was fruity and flavorful, we enjoyed it a lot. My husband ordered the Cheese Manicotti and I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana. He loved the manicotti and said it was incredible and some of the best manicotti he's ever had. He really enjoyed the sauce. The Eggplant Parmigiana is one of my favorite meals when I eat Italian and the sauce was flavorful, and the eggplant perfectly cooked. Our meals came with garlic bread which paired really nicely with what we had ordered. We ordered a Sonny's white pizza to go. We loved the thin crust. Everything we ordered was very good. Overall it was a really great experience and just as delicious as I remembered.

Got a pepperoni pizza... one of the best pizzas I've tried. Perfect balance of ingredients with a garlic kick. So good!

Did not like the plate I ordered. Got it last time and loved it. Seems the food is a bit inconsistent. The pizza had a great flavor but the cheese was too hard for my kids to chew. Service was great, our waiter checked on us regularly which is nice. The restaurant is small so the tables are pretty close together, but it has a cute little Italian vibe to it. Maybe just need to work on the quality/consistency of their dishes...

Read tons of stellar reviews and decided to include this eatery for the day. Big mistake. Went at 1130am on a Saturday and it was empty.Ordered: CalamariCaesar saladRigatoni with sausage Gnnochi with cream sauceCalamari was super salty. And look at the picture I uploaded -cant believe they let that leave the kitchen. Very uunappealing.Salad was mediocre and tasted of bottled dressing.Rigatoni was saltyGnocchi was also salty -they forgot my chicken which was fine. It probably was better they forgot since I wouldn't have had to pay an extra $5 for mediocrity. Unfortunately, this was such a subpar meal. Even the waters tasted funky ? Unclean tasting. Asked for togo boxes but not given a bag ? It was overall an unpleasant dining experience.

Sonnys is a decent, no frills Italian restaurant: I do appreciate a low-key Italian restaurant that is more rustic and is more reminiscent of a home-kitchen style than upscale, because that is what we want sometimes, just some solid simple Italian food. Other positives is there is really good flavor in the sauces, even the simple marinara was delicious, and the special (I got the spicy penne w/sausage) was fantastic: it came baked and had a crispy cheesy crust. One thing to note is that it is a small place so it can get really loud: we were there late on a Saturday night and still had to yell to try to have a conversation, so this probably would not be the place to have an intimate dinner, at least not on a weekend. Perhaps the weeknight might be slower and more quiet. I wish they had more options for home-made pasta: it was a little disappointing that they didn't have that: I think if they had the option for more home-made pasta, along with the great flavors this would put Sonnys up ahead of the pack of other Italian restaurants, but overall, I think they are slightly about average: a solid staple for homey Italian food.

Best Italian food I've ever had in my 39 years. Calamari was amazing. The restaurant is nice and clean in a nice little corner. Was over an hour away but definitely worth the trip. The lobster macaroni was delicious as well
