Absolutely adore this place. Custard taiyaki is perfection. Will always return for taro and ube swirl, it has my heart.Service great, appreciate the self-pay option so you don't have to hand the employees your credit card.Ambiance great! Friends and I like to ask strangers in line to take a selfie of us holding our pretty ice creams.

This place is basically mid soft serve in a cup with a 25cent waffle on topThe price is ridiculous 7$ for what is essentially 1.25$ that you could make at home with store bought and some waffle batterNot impressed with the flavorThe ordering is fully online, but they don't include toppingsSo your order has to be yelled out and they have to ask if you want toppingsOverall probably wouldn't come here again

This place became my coworkers and my regular dessert place after lunch at Diamond Jamboree Shopping Center. We can never get enough of that crispy Taiyaki filled with tasty swirls and fun toppings. The store is maintained clean just as I remembered visiting last time and the foods were taken great care. As soon as the orders were in, the staff were on their own station and quickly making the sweets. They were all friendly and had sweet smiles. There is one thing that I always miss and it is chairs and tables in the store although you can go to the plaza area where there are many chairs and tables, which is inconvenient on hot sunny days especially during summer.

It was our first time to this soft serve / dessert franchise and it was quite good, though there were a couple things that could have made it better. We got the 'Upside Down' which was Matcha soft serve with some complimentary toppings and a crispy fish cake filled with black sesame on top. I have had Taiyaki from multiple places, including in Asia, and I have always enjoyed it when it's piping hot and fresh. It just doesn't taste the same when it's not at least a little warm. So when we rec'd our dessert at Somisomi, it was a bit of a letdown when the fish was not even slightly warm. Kind of like when you have apple pie a la mode, which is vanilla ice cream on top of a hot apple pie, but when the apple pie is cold, it just doesn't taste quite as good. The cup itself is a bit small, but they do fill up the cup with a lot of ice cream. In fact, for most people who don't need a lot of calories, fat and sugar, it's enough for two people to share and so it's a decent price, if shared. The black sesame filling in our Taiyaki was good, but I expected the inside to be full of filling, and there wasn't that much. The toppings are very limited, some cookies and sprinkles, but it complemented the ice cream and overall, we enjoyed it. The store is very simple, not very elaborate decor, and there is no seating at this location. It was a bit surprising not to have any seats, not even a bench. Part of the fun of going to dessert is hanging out together. There is some outdoor seating nearby, but that is limited and it fills up quickly during rush hour. If we didn't find an outdoor table, we would have left without ordering. That is probably one of the biggest issues here, which I can understand, it's likely a strategy, to prevent crowds, you won't stay around long and you have more space, but it's just not a comfortable place to enjoy your dessert. The last part of a dessert shop experience that usually stands out is friendly and fun interaction with customers, but this was almost the opposite again. We walked in, no welcome or greeting. We waited and still no response, and realized that the staff was there just to prepare the dessert, not actually to greet customers or take orders. We had questions, sometimes we like recommendations, but the staff completely avoided eye contact. So we ordered on the tablet at the front and the staff handed us our dessert, not even with a thank you or a smile. It's not bad, it just doesn't rank high among the top dessert places in Irvine.

I recently visited SomiSomi, and while it SomiSomi has several locations across OC. We stopped by the location in the Anton Plaza.Despite the mid-week day and light showers, the lunch crowd still came to this plaza so that was a bit hard finding a parking space. It's a combo of luck and timing. The place is clean, cute and Instagram-wall, making it a great spot for photos, but there is no place to hang out to eat the self-serve so that deters me from ice cream. No worries since I always like eating taiyaki (fish-shaped waffle cone) stuffed with several choices of fillings. You place your order at one of the two available kiosks. I still felt a bit overpriced for what it was for two fishes ($4.50 + tax). The service is odd, I see three staff but only one that is actively involved on turning the orders. Needless to say, there was a longer than expected wait our order.Overall, a good experience for afternoon treat. Probably nothing something that I can make a habit of.

I've been here a couple of times now and am always so pleased. This time around I tried the Cookies & Cream with Black Sesame filling, and loved this combo! The ice cream itself is super smooth, and the Taiyaki is also good quality. Every week there are new "swirls" which means flavor mixes. So check their instagram or website for flavors of the week!

We usually don't go into this Somi Somi because it's always packed, but whenever we do, each item we order always turns out really tasty. This time, we got the ube and green tea swirl with sprinkles, captain crunch powder, and a macaron. Delicious! I also ordered a couple tayakis, which came out hot and fresh! The servers are very quick, too!

Haven't had SomiSomi in a while and decided to give it a try while I was in the area. Kiosks to order so there isn't much interaction with workers besides to pick up your order. Plaza was a pain to find parking because of the diverse food selection in the plaza. Got red bean as my filler with cookie n creme. The soft serve tasted creamy and the red bean paste was not overly sweet and complimented the soft serve well. Would recommend as a try but it is a little pricey for a single soft serve.

Soft serve in a cute fish shaped "waffle". Tasty asian flavors with unlimited toppings. We got the half taro half cookie and dusted it with cookie crumbles and matcha.I thought the waffle would be more of a round soft cone but it was somewhere between a cake cone and a baked cake. I liked that it came with a flavor baked in. I enjoyed this on its own more than with the ice cream. I'm glad you can get the fish waffle on the side because it looks like it would have been difficult to put all that ice cream inside and eat it cleanly.Ice cream was smooth and flavorful but too sweet for me. They do give you a good amount which made it shareable, IMO.Other notes: order at the screen and then the person comes over and makes it for you and asks what flavors you want.Overall enjoyed it, cute novelty ice cream, a tad expensive but good flavor. I'd come back occasionally for a treat to share with someone.
