Been here three times in the past few weeks. Breakfast and lunch.Food is really really good. We've had a significant variety of food here all repeatable.Foods very good, prices are reasonable and the owner Rose actually speaks to customers.Don't overlook this place for breakfast or lunch.Tuesday Sept 3 '24Back here again for breakfast. As usual it was excellent. In addition to really tasty food you get served some really funny jokes, I now write some down to share when I know I'm coming back.Todays best IMO from Rose was :What do you call a cow with no legs ?Ground Beef.Followed by what do you call a three legged cow? .... Go ask Rose.

We loved the sugar shack! Rose met Monty and I during our walk and gave him a treat- we came back for breakfast and again she's the sweetest- brought him water and 3 more treats. We had hot, fresh and strong coffee and delicious breakfasts... eggs over medium were cooked perfectly, hot cakes were perfectly crisp on the outside and came with all the sauces and fixings!

Picture a ma & pop beach restaurant you see in the movies. It is not your typical new cafe that sprinkles parts of Orange County. This cafe has history. Warmth. Love. And personality. It's is not ADA accessible for the toilet, and it is tight fitted around a few of the tables. In door and outdoor seating is available. The staff themselves are just so lovely. They give you plenty of attention without being annoying. The food itself is BOMB! Very good. We all got something different. Plenty of food per plate. One could share with another. None of us shared and I was the only one to bring 1/2 my burger home. They serve both breakfast and lunch items.Alcohol IS SERVED! Which my twin and were both pleasantly surprised. He ordered himself a Bloody Mary and I would have too. But I had to drive back with teenagers to HB coming off a good drinking day from the holiday (wink wink). Didn't want to get thrown back into a buzz haha! My twin and I both agreed. This is a well loved spot for the locals. We both also agreed the mixed reviews were probably not from locals. Because of the old personality to it. But my silverware, plates, and cups were clean. I didn't feel like the place was dingy or dirty.Go give this place some love and they will give love right back to you.

Zero stars. Food was inedible. Only one person in the group received food that was decent. Egg omelette was under cooked. I got the blueberry pancakes and they were the consistency of chewing gum and the blueberries were sour. I sent my food back and she brought me a side of biscuits and gravy I did not ask for, I tried them because I was hungry and they stuck to the roof of my mouth. They were more like a slice of cake with yellow gravy on it. All of that and she still charged for the food I sent back. We paid $90 for 3 plates of food and only 1 person was able to eat their food. DO NOT COME to this restaurant. They need to be shut down.

The food and service was great! What a dynamic waitress I had this morning! I tipped her 40% for being awesome and making my day! Protect her at all costs! We need more of her types these days! Thank you! Muah! See you soon!

Been coming to the Sugar every for Saturday AM breakfasts w/the crew until I moved "out of the house" 35 years ago and up the coast a bit. We went yesterday for my Mom's 86th birthday. Let me tell you, it's still as good as it was back then. Rose and George survived the Covid Shutdown and are as sweet as ever. George the Greek is quite the chef too! Homemade biscuits and cinnamon rolls to die for. Lots of parking which is rare for San Clemente and big food portions priced just right. If you get a chance, definitely stop in. They serve both Brekky and lunch in the morning, which I like, as Im not a big breakfast eater. We all ordered something different and all plates were delicious! And, they serve Coca Cola! We sat a very nice, and clean table. The place is old and not as fresh as some new "hot spots" in town, but you will not be disappointed in service, atmosphere or the portions served. You can tell the owners take pride in their food and service. It's rare to find that in restaurants today. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Super disappointed with how ridiculously EXPENSIVE sugar shack has become. A family of 4 for breakfast, 2 to go orders of the sugar burger and our total was $165!!! My modelo beer was $8. Last time we'll visit our local sugar shack. The food and service is NOT worth the price.

This little sweet cafe is the best! Rose and her husband (the cook), have been in business for 36yrs surviving the ups and downs of the economy with resilience. We arrived at 130pm, just before closing, it was hot, we were the last people in and Rose took such amazing care of us with a witty sense of humor, fun jokes, great stories and her husband made us wonderful food!!! We could not have asked for a better experience! The encinitas surfing crew!

One star is for friendly service. Second star is for average food. Third star was for a fantastic cinnamon roll. But the building, and violations from the health department were scary! I read that it's been straightened out now, though. I put half and half and half in my coffee that was old or something and had an unpleasant reaction. The company suggests refrigeration but not required. I wonder how long it sat there. We went there to try a new place that has hash browns that my husband ordered but disliked. The prices should be three dollar signs not two because it's not a bargain at all.
