Play Coffee has some of the best lattes in The Circle--smooth, well-balanced, and paired with delicious pastries. We had the Volcano latte and a Cardamom latte. The service is also super friendly, which makes the experience even better. The cafe is inside an old bank building, which gives it a unique and stylish look, but the layout is a bit odd, and the acoustics make it pretty boomy. Also, the chairs are not great for long talks or hanging out. While it's right by Chapman, it didn't feel overwhelmingly full of students like another nearby spot (which has its own vibe). As someone well past my Chapman days, I appreciate that this place has a more mixed crowd.Overall, a solid choice if you're looking for great coffee in a cool setting--just maybe don't plan to get too cozy.

I stumbled upon this place because a nearby coffee shop was too packed. I'm glad I did, but there were a few things I didn't enjoy as much. The drinks were okay, not too sweet/perfect amount of sweetness, but it was very milk forward, and I felt that my sweet maple latte could have used another shot or two of espresso. The ambiance is beautiful, and the decor is minimalistic and not distracting. The music wasn't too loud either which was nice. However, the place is very open with all of its windows open, so it was freezing by 4 pm! (I think this would be amazing during the summer). The wifi is great and the seating is plentiful, especially if you get one of their bigger tables (they do not have outlets). The baristas are kind, so no complaints there. I would come check this place out because it's located in what used to be a bank. Restrooms are definitely pretty run down, but that's just a personal grievance.

came in on a monday morning, around 8am! i got a strawberry matcha and it was probs the best i've had in all of sd and oc. i've read some reviews about unfriendly service, but i didn't have any issues! the employees were very friendly :) the strawberry matcha was $9, which is definitely on the pricier side but unfortunately for me, it was the best strawberry matcha i've had so i will definitely be coming back lol cute place! good musicbtw the matcha wasn't grainy AT ALL and had zero separation which was soooo appreciated

First time here and tried the volcano latte. It was okay, it honestly just tasted like a regular caffe latte with sea salt sprinkled on top. I will give it another try and try something new but so far it hasn't impressed me to really want to go back. I'm hoping the names are not just the only thing that sound good and other drinks there are just as good as the names.

The brunette girl working on MLK Day did not even try to hide her racism lmao. The white man who was served before us was notified his drink was ready by name and was handed his drink. Meanwhile, she could not even bother to call the Asian person's name and simply called out what was ordered, set it on the counter, and quickly turned around to chat with her coworker. The espresso tonic was good but I would rather walk one street over to get a channel orange from Contra.

Great place to study/work! Tables are spaced out, outlets are scattered, coffee is good. What makes this place top tier is that it's in an old bank. Love this place!

Cool coffee shop in the heart of Orange Circle! Located inside an old Wells Fargo bank, the setting is definitely a unique one for a coffee shop. I love how spacious it is with the high ceiling and with plenty of seating. We came on a weekend morning and it was bustling with young families, dog owners, people post-workout, and it was nice to see such a diverse crowd! I got a decaf latte which was okay. My husband got an espresso which he enjoyed. It was our first time in the area and it was nice to walk around and pass other coffee and brunch shops, vintage stores, etc. Perfect place for a stroll with family or for date night! We found free street parking easily, and definitely want to come back to check out other stores!

Stopped by for an afternoon matcha pick me up and really liked the vibe of this place. First, it's located in the orange circle so depending on the day and time, parking can be difficult but I was lucky to find a spot right in front. When you walk in, it looks like an old bank that they converted into a cute coffee shop. There was a lot of seating areas and a lot of people come to study or meet up with their friends for a coffee. They had a simple but good menu. They had an assortment of different matcha from different regions which was cool. I don't know too much about matcha but I do appreciate the taste of matcha. When I arrived, there was a little line but the service was quick and smooth. You can watch them make your drink which was nice. I ordered a matcha latte with whole milk unsweetened and it was good, I'd come back and try some of their other drinks on their menu.

Cute spot in old town orange! Very nice workers, delicious drinks and plenty of seating for work or studying. They offer matcha and espresso as well as pastries. Plenty of shops to walk around while you enjoy your coffee and overall a great vibe. Went on a Sunday afternoon and the line wasn't too long. Waited about 10 minutes for 2 lattes.

As others have observed, it was originally a bank before turning into Play Coffee. Inside is HUGE. This is a great place to study. They have high speed WiFi, small and large tables for studying alone or with a group, and a limited amount of outlets (I counted at least 8 along the wall). One thing I did notice was that the lighting wasn't great if you weren't by the windows. In terms of the noise level, it can get a noisy and there's an echo so bring noise cancelling headphones. I ordered the uji matcha latte with oat milk. The matcha is good but the matcha to milk ratio is way off. I tasted more milk than matcha in my drink. Service was a bit slow but it wasn't a huge deal.
