Gyutan in English is Beef Tongue, which explains why they only serve beef tongue here, so I would say that it might not be the restaurant for a lot of people. If you like beef tongue and/or you like trying something different, you should try Gyutan Tsukasa USA located in the food court of the Mitsua Japanese Grocery store in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California. This location has many authentic Japanese offerings that it brings me back to my visit to Tokyo. Gyutan Tsukasa is not any different from how the Japanese perfect their craft. I ordered the Tsukasa Set which included grilled Gyutan (beef tongue prepared the Japanese way over charcoal briquettes slowly grilled) to a perfect doneness which was very tender. The set also included a soup with beef tongue and a stew of beef tongue. Everything was Oishii (delicious or tasty).I must say it's a bit pricey for how much you get, but beef tongue is not an inexpensive cut of beef since there's only one per cow. It would be nice if they offered other types of beef cuts prepared the same way, because I am sure it would be amazing.

Gyutan Tsukasa is a must-try for anyone who loves grilled beef tongue. The pieces aren't always consistent though with some being a bit more chewier than others. I usually get the 12 piece set which comes with rice, pickled veggies and a beef tongue soup/broth that's pretty tasty. It's also served with a bit of wasabi. It's a casual spot that's located inside the Mitsuwa food court. Parking can be a bit of a hassle but the service is quick and they call out your number when it's ready. It's a quick and tasty meal that hits the spot every time.

What I ordered:- Gyutan setIf I'm craving high-quality beef tongue, but not in the mood for a sit-down Japanese BBQ meal, this is my first choice!Gyutan (beef tongue) is juicy and grilled excellently, on par with actual Japanese BBQ spots like Tsuruhashi. The sides of omizuke (pickled veggies) and spicy-miso nanban (marinated veggies) add bitterness, saltiness, and spice to the meat. Gyutan soup is a light broth that is immensely rich in flavor, and the cubes of meat are tremendously tender!

I'd never had beef tongue before, and it turned out to be so much better than I expected. The texture was tender, and the seasoning was light, which allowed the natural flavor of the meat and the smokiness from the grill to really shine--no sauce needed! We went on a busy Friday afternoon (Black Friday), ordered, and waited about 40 minutes for our food. The wait was a bit long, but the beef tongue was worth it. The soup, however, was a bit too rich and beefy for my taste.

This place is located inside the Mitsuwa marketplace. It's one of the food vendors at the location. There is also underground parking and above ground parking. you order your food and you get a number. They will then call your number and that's when you find your own seating in the communal seating area.I got the beef tongue and it was delicious. Also be careful the soup that it came with was very hot. This place was a bit on the pricier side for the amount of food that is given.

I've heard about this place for a while now, and I can't believe I've been missing out on such high-quality beef tongue right around the corner from South Coast Plaza after a long day of shopping. We've tried some excellent beef tongue at high-end Japanese izakayas, as well as some subpar versions at more affordable spots. But here, for just $20+, you can get really good quality beef tongue--12 generous pieces for a satisfying feast!I'm so glad we've discovered this gem at Mitsuwa in Irvine. I just hope they open a location at Mitsuwa in Torrance in the South Bay soon!

This is probably the only place, or one of the very few in LA, that specializes in gyutan--Japanese grilled beef tongue. I've been wanting to try it for years and finally had the chance. While I enjoy lengua tacos and burritos at Mexican restaurants, gyutan is different. It's firmer and chewier than the tender texture of lengua, but the smokiness and seasoning of the gyutan are delicious and pair perfectly with rice.Since it's in the Mitsuwa food court, finding a table can be tricky depending on the time of day. I went during weekend lunch, and it was nearly impossible to find a seat. I recommend visiting during non-lunch hours.

If you're a fan of savory, melt-in-your-mouth beef, Gyutan at Mitsuwa Plaza's Beef Tongue Rice is a must-try! The beef tongue is perfectly grilled, with a smoky flavor and a tender, juicy texture that's hard to beat. The rice with beef tongue that's both comforting and delicious. The portion size is generous, and the balance of flavors--savory, slightly smoky, and a hint of char--makes each bite a delight. Whether you're a beef tongue enthusiast or a first-timer, this dish is sure to impress! Definitely a standout in Mitsuwa Plaza's food court. Food court is clean and easy to find seats. Service was good and you just have to find seats inside food court. Free parking.

Ask me a few years ago and I would've been horrified to hear anyone eating beef tongue. Like what in the world?!? It wasn't until I tried it at some wagyu place....and realized I've been missing out! Did not taste like how I imagined. I mean, I'm still a little apprehensive but its undeniably tender!!My friend brought me here to try the charcoal grilled tongue. Located in the food court of Mitsuwa. Said it was "popular". When we went near closing time there was really no wait~but she did say normal wait times were long. We ordered the 12 piece for $30 to share and it came with a bowl of rice, some pickled veggies, wasabi, and a bowl of soup. It was surprisingly enough for us although I was skeptical at first.Tongue was so tender and flavorful. It was perfect with some wasabi smeared on it. Soup was a tad salty but the thick chunks of tongue inside were super soft. Overall a very solid 4.5 place I'd say~Too bad its an hour away from me or I'd be there daily.Parking is decent and plenty of tables when I went (again, we went near closing so prime time might be different)...
