I found this place when I needed to kill some time after landing at the Santa Ana Airport. I was drawn in by the cool decor and area. I chatted with the bartender for a while while waiting or a few buddies. The beer selection was really good and the ones recommended to me by the bartender were great. Definitely worth a try.

The beer is fine but lots of competition in the neighborhood. Just confused on why you'd hang dead animals in your brewery as this will turn people off and lose customers.

Cozy, friendly, and chill. Great selection of beers with knowledgeable staff and interesting blend of customers. I tried a IPA and the blonde ale, sampled a couple other things, no complaints. They offer anything from 1/2pours to crowlers, super cool. Good parking available in the lot. If you want food you can order in from surrounding businesses.

Exceptional beers. They're all different, distinct, fresh and unique. You can taste the passion they put into their craft. The limited brewery-only Ojos Negros You mortal Stout tastes like cherries and would do extremely well over ice cream. I will be back just to continue trying this one beer until it runs out. Highly recommended.

Gunwhale has a wide array of fruit-forward beers to choose from. If you like darker beers, they one one oyster stout. They offered 2 separate patio areas for seating that were well spaced out. It's an excellent spot to bring your well-behaved dogs. We didn't bring ours but got to see lots of friendly pups enjoying time with their hoomans. Their indoor space doesn't offer a ton of seating and felt a little small, so I'd definitely recommend this spot on a sunny day so you can enjoy the patio. They also had a food truck on a Saturday afternoon that had some tasty asada fries. We were too hungry when we arrived to snap a photo before devouring our fries.

I have never been at a more disgusting establishment. There were wings of insects in my beer. So gross, showed the staff and they thought it was funny. Disgusting service

Beers were great. I really like the setup of this place - there are several distinct areas so you have options for seating/vibe. Free wifi (had a beer while getting some work done). They had a pop up wood fired pizza shop that was excellent - I missed the exact name - Il Pia[xxxxx]? They had live music too. Would come back for sure

this review is in regards to the bigger, bald bartender behind the counter with the goatee in the glasses. Today in the evening, I was showing my family around the area showing them Costa Mesa as well as all the cool spots around, including Green cheek, Gunwhale, & Salty Bear and that area. Keep in mind I'm walking in well within business hours. It was about 8:45 PM, the bald bartender in the back sees me walking my parents in just showing them the area we weren't even gonna sit down, just showing my parents The lighting the seating, and showing them the area. The moment I walk in this bigger, bald bartender, yell yells at me saying "Hey Hey, where you going?? are you retarded?" In front my family; we're not overstepping bounds, we're not drinking? we're not doing anything. that's no way to speak to any customer and that's no way to speak to anybody that walks in through that door even if I was a homeless man that reeked of cigarettes and alcohol, you don't speak to anybody like that, especially in front of their family. Absolutely turned me off to that place ever again and I do not suggest that you take anybody there if that is how you're gonna be spoken to once you walk in through that door. He was drinking with his buddies. One was behind the counter a couple on the barstools and they look like they had a little bit too much to drink and I'm positive if he works there. go anywhere but Gunwhale, so many spots within walking distance where I'm sure they'll speak to you better and treat you better and that's where your money should go not to jackasses like that who speak to an absolute stranger who's walking in with their polite parents like that, hope theres repercussions.
