First time trying this sushi spot! It was recommended by a friend. I was really excited after seeing the menu online. I almost knew exactly what I wanted. It's a good sized restaurant with booths and tables. I ordered the Premium hand roll set. It comes with 6 hands rolls and 1 cut roll of your choice. I went with the toro-taku, Hama-taku, negitoro, negihama, salmon, and yellowtail hand rolls, and the yellowtail cut roll. All of the rolls were nicely portioned with nice fresh cuts of fish. I must say I was a bit worried it wouldn't be full, but I was definitely wrong! The rolls were so stuffed and I was full by the fifth roll. I also received a miso soup and edamame. It was delicious! It was a hardy miso soup, with carrots and daikon radish. I love that they are open late; until midnight so I didn't feel rushed to leave or finish my meal. The hot tea was a perfect pairing with my sushi. But I'll definitely try the chuhai or sake next time. I would absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking for good quality sushi!

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be coming back to this place. I think I had expected a traditional sushi experience, but it was so far from it, imo. I ordered the yamasaki set menu. First off, the miso soup wasn't traditional at all. I think there were carrots and radish in it? And it had a little bit of sour taste to it...maybe due to the daikon? I'm not sure, but it didn't taste like your traditional miso soup with tofu and seaweed. The quality of the fish was okay. I liked the monkfish and the tuna, but some of the other pieces (like the uni) didn't taste the freshest. Additionally, for the nigiri, they didn't put wasabi in the between the fish and rice - I wish they gave us the option. I also found the rice for the nigiri to be "loose." Also the cuts were thick and not consistent (larger and smaller pieces). As for the hand rolls, the seaweed was soggy. It didn't have the crunch to it when I bit into it. The last thing that caught me off guard was the crab roll...it had had corn and cheese in it, which was weird to me. I didn't like it at all and ended up not finishing it. Also as someone who is lactose intolerant, I would have appreciated the heads up on the cheese. As for service, I felt like nobody was really paying attention to us. It's a pretty small restaurant, but we were waiting a long time for our bill.

FOOD: excellent, fresh, doesn't not taste fishy at all SERVICE: quick, friendly and attentive AMBIANCE: it's a very small space, it could be a little cleaner but that's just me being picky for how pricey this place can be. Overall, this is a great place to have some great great seafood.

Second time coming back here but the prices and the food was just so good! The service is always quick and friendly. They have a good selection of fish you can choose from. The sets they have for lunch and dinner are great! They come out at different times so you can enjoy the food and savor the flavor before the next one comes out.

Took our daughter out for a sushi dinner in Huntington Beach. This place was located in the middle of an unassuming strip mall, not much to look at from the outside. The place was pretty busy for a Sunday evening. I enjoyed the 10-piece Nigiri Sushi Set Menu, which as near-perfect. Sadly, the miso soup, served at the end of the meal was God-awful, had grainy bits of something, tasted fishy, and contained no tofu. Yeesh, not sure what was up with that. Aside from that, everyone left pretty content.

Wonderfully designed cuisine. The most authentic Japanese I've seen. Great job! We will certainly be making this one of our regular spots.

We were thoroughly impressed and happy with our experience here! We came in mid-afternoon on a Sunday and were seated immediately. I ordered a lunch plate ($19) and my partner ordered the sashimi lunch plate (I think $28). The lunch plate came with miso soup, sashimi salad, 2 pieces of sashimi, 2 pieces of nigiri, and 2 handrolls. The sashimi lunch plate came with miso soup, chawanmushi, sashimi salad, cucumber daikon eel salad, sushi rice, and 8 pieces of assorted sashimi. We were both pleasantly surprised by the amount of food that came with each, especially for such a great value! Not only that, but everything seemed to be made with intention and tasted wonderful and were beyond our expectations. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the restaurant itself is clean and cute, perfect for any occasion. I would completely recommend this restaurant and will come back again!

I was thinking about our trip to Japan last year when I suggested to my husband that we should have sushi for our anniversary dinner. He wholeheartedly agreed with me and let me choose the restaurant. Fisherman's Table Yamasaki had been on my list of places to try for a while now, so I tried to make a reservation. Except that they aren't open on Tuesdays. So initially, I planned to go elsewhere for our anniversary. However, I decided we should just go to dinner the Saturday before and go to Fisherman's Table, like I initially intended. Since it is a small locally owned Japanese restaurant, you have to call them during business hours to make a reservation. We called the day before and asked for a table for 2. My husband and I arrived on time and parked out front. The restaurant is in a small strip mall area. We let the hostess know that we had a reservation and we were seated in the reserved booth near the entrance. The menu is fairly straight forward and I had my eye on one of the Fisherman's course set meals when my husband said we should do the Yamasaki Share Course which is listed at $39. A little backstory: my husband only likes nigiri and sashimi. He apparently missed the H.R. on the menu that said the set comes with hand rolls. He's not a hand roll person for textural reasons and doesn't like the texture of chopped raw fish. Anyway, the share course is for 2 people meaning both of us had to order it. We were served the salad first. I usually love salad but I don't love little tiny whitebait fish they put on this salad. I know it's a delicacy but it's not my thing. I ate around it. I did eat the salmon and scallops though. They drizzle on the house made dressing at the table. The greens were fresh and not wilted. If the salad didn't have the shirasu, I think I would have been fine with it. Next, the sashimi was served. It was plated nicely and delicious. The fish was fresh. The nigiri was served next. We each received 4 pieces of nigiri. This was our favorite course. The final course of the set were the hand rolls. We received toro and scallop hand rolls, plus a cut crab roll. This is where my husband decided to stop eating. He's a bit weird about food textures and hand rolls are not his type of sushi. He put it aside, offering it to me. I said I'd eat it but I was getting full. Our waitress stopped by and saw he wasn't eating and he explained he had not paid attention to the menu when we ordered. He also said that he didn't realize we had ordered hand rolls. Anyway, the waitress was a total professional and took his hand rolls back. The chef kindly put sent him some nigiri, instead. So despite the mishap, mostly my husband's fault, we had a good meal at Fisherman's Table. Service was very good. 4.5 stars

I really wanted to enjoy this place. It was a restaurant we saw on social media and something we were really excited about. They do live tuna cutting on special days and the owners I believe are Japanese, making a more authentic experience. However, I believe because of the time we came in we might have gotten a different experience than if we came later in the evening. The SetupWe arrived just a little before our reservation at 5 PM on Saturday night. When we walked in the center tables were filled with emptied dirty dishes and I could tell this was probably the staff finishing their meal together before dinner service. As we walked in a little before 5 PM when they open for dinner I could understand why it was this way. Working in a sushi restaurant I know when someone comes in right when a restaurant opens means there's still lots of work that needs to be done to be completely ready for dinner service. Because of this I think the first half of our dinner was disappointing as it felt like the food was hurriedly prepared. As dinner service continued later into the evening and the restaurant started to fill up we could tell the food also began to rise in quality and presentation. We ordered the Omakase Yamasaki with no substitutions or restrictions. Here's what I thought of for each course that came through (with pictures):Omakase Yamasaki1st course: seafood/sashimi salad with a few slices of salmon and scallops with a spring mix for the greens. It doesn't taste very fresh unfortunately, but as a starting salad it's okay. Quality is pretty much the same as getting a bagged salad of spring mix at the store.2nd course: Sashimi course. Tuna, amberjack, akimo, o-toro, albacore, and butterfish. Some of the cuts were interesting as far as size goes. Everything was fine although was waiting for the natural tastes of the fish to be more robust. We found a scale with one of our slices of tuna and random sesame seeds on one of the plates. Feels like they didn't clean their knives or prep station before cutting the fish.3rd: Chawamushi with big chunk of unagi on top. Though the unagi tasted good, the chawamushi itself tasted strange to me, almost an off, slightly battery flavor to it. I could not finish this.4th: Sushi four piece. Tuna, amberjack, sea bream, and mackerel. Yes, they all tasted good. Would eat again. The amberjack was my favorite.5th: Sushi course again. This time it was black throat, goldeneye snapper, red snapper, and o-toro. Yes. Loved it. Black throat is slightly seared and melts in your mouth and you know how decadent o-toro is. Delicious.6th: Pairing of eel, one being freshwater eel (unagi) and the other being saltwater eel (anago). Anago is a delicate flavor with more of the natural taste while unagi is deeper in flavor, especially because of the fattiness of it. Both tasted of high quality.7th: O-toro hand roll. Although it might be weird to mention the seaweed felt very high quality and the pickled vegetables in it gave a nice pop of flavor to each bite. The toro was fatty and had nice feels.8th: Uni sushi. They sourced from Santa Barbara and it tasted fresh.9th: Special soup of the night. Very fragrant from the spring onions and what smells like yuzu. Almost like a somen with their thin noodles. Light but tasty and satisfying to the palate. This dish reminded me so much of dining in Japan.10th: Soft shell crab hand roll with extra crab on the bottom and corn. Crab is meaty and the texture is a nice change of flavor compared to the previous courses.Dessert: Scoop of French vanilla ice cream with matcha poured over. Clean, sweet taste to end the meal. What looked like the owner came in around the 5th course of our meal and it was then where we started to see the quality move up. The price for the omakase was $120/each and you get a great amount of food. I thought the staff was great and the restaurant had a great vibe once the evening got later into the night. However, based on the overall flavors and experience I would be hesitant to return to try again. If I do, I would come later in the night and that would be my recommendation for you too.
