Stopped by Doheny Cafe while cruising around Dana Point hunkering for some good ol' fashioned breakfast fare. This welcoming spot is a great beach cafe vibe with a slightly sophisticated feel. Plenty of parking out front in this strip retail area in Dana Point. You'll notice the indoor / outdoor open space feel, with plenty of comfortable tables and seats throughout a Southern California surf motif. The staff is extremely friendly, a well-oiled machine churning out some outstanding breakfast items to eager customers. On this weekday morning, my girlfriend and I decided to reward ourself with some delicious items to munch. We both had some hot tea with honey to start. While she opted for the much healthier Breakfast Burrito, I went with the Banana Waffles. Our order came out quite quickly, and looked beautifully prepared. My two Banana Waffles arrived with sliced bananas, pecans, honey and maple syrup. My girlfriend's Breakfast Burrito (scrambled eggs, cheddar, potatoes) was paired with a healthy green salad. I snagged a bite of my girl's burrito. It was quite good. Chalked full of hot eggs, cheddar and diced potatoes, the tortilla wrap was grilled to a tee and sealed in the delicious ingredients. The accompanying sour cream and salsa verde was also a nice touch. My Banana Waffles were top notch. Soft and fluffy, with a great drizzle of honey, chopped pecans and bananas were simply effective. Only have a dusting of powdered sugar and an accompanying real maple syrup is always respected and appreciated. It wasn't a huge amount of food, but just the right amount to enjoy for a medium-sized appetite. The Cafe was full by 11:00am, with what seemed to be a lot of locals. The vibe is definitely laid back, relaxing and fun. The food and service are great and you won't be disappointed with anything on the menu. Surf's Up!

NOT WORTH THE WAIT!This cafe is not very well managed. Went there for breakfast on a says expected a wait time. However, when you arrive there is no hostess so didn't know that you have to walk through the restaurant to the counter and write our name down on our own and then go back out front essentially in the parking lot. Fifteen minutes into our wait I noticed a table open up but sat uncleared for an additional ten minutes, meanwhile our group and at least one other group were waiting. Finally, it was cleared and were able to be seated. After an additional five minutes our waitress came over and we ordered waters as we checked the menu. At least another five minutes before our waters came we were able to order. When the food finally came it was ok , not great but acceptable. When we were done eating and ready to go, after about fifteen minutes we flagged down a waiter (hadn't seen ours for a while) for the check and paid our bill. Bottom line, since the food was mediocre at best and the service and management were abysmal and since there are plenty of other options (even Dennys would be better) we will not be going back and don't recommend it.

We've been here a few times. This is the same owner as Maison cafe and if you've been to both, you definitely see the resemblances. With that said, both spots are excellent. You'll usually get good service with solid food. Doheny cafe specially has a few good breakfast dishes and they do a good job of getting people in and out. I posted a few of the meals we ordered and we've tried other things on the menu as well. It's worth checking out if you're going to doheny for the day or just in the area. Cheers!

From the same owners as Maison Cafe and Giana's of course Doheny would hit it out of the park. My son and I had lunch there and enjoyed it very much. Great service, nice "inside-outside" feel with the open doors it was just the right place for a quick and good lunch. I had the quesadilla the was tasty and filling. For sure I will be back for a breakfast or lunch.

Unfortunately, this restaurant disappointed. There were four of us, and we all ordered coffee and entrees. Although the staff were very kind, it took almost an hour for our food to come out before ordering. They brought us pastries to make up for it, which was very appreciated, but at the end of the day, the wait was a little crazy given that the restaurant wasn't too busy. Im thinking maybe they were understaffed?Once I received my food, I started eating, and found three hairs in my food. It was quite good, but the hairs were not worth it after the wait.Additionally, we were sweating because there's no AC, and it's an open room. There was also no stevia for coffee. If anything, though, the food was good. The breakfast sandwich was huge and the berries were yummy. The pastries were great, and everyone else at the table enjoyed their food.Thankfully, they comped our food and drinks. The staff was kind and we appreciated their efforts to improve the experience, but we won't be heading back.

Such a cute little cafe spot in Dana point. It's also within walking distance to the Doheny beach! We walked in for breakfast and put our name down for a table. It was pretty busy on Sunday. However we waited a few minutes and got called for an opening to sit at the bar which we gladly accepted.Service was friendly and once we got our drinks, one of the girls noticed we had been waiting a bit for our food and kindly offered us a cookie. Once the food came, everything was great and we left satisfied!

A somewhat unprepossessing exterior belies a gem in Dana Point. My husband and I had breakfast there by chance and got quite a pleasant surprise. The food is fresh, excellently, prepared and wholesome. I chose the breakfast sandwich on ciabatta bread with avocado, cheese, tomato, bacon, and, in my case, an egg fried hard. So yummy. It came with fresh organic strawberries, and blueberries that were ripe and sweet. My husband chose the more traditional bacon and eggs breakfast, which was also excellent and came with perfectly toasted ciabatta bread slices. Our servers, Alan & Cece were lovely - friendly, cheerful and accommodating. All in all it was a great unexpected delight. Highly recommended-
