Written 01.09.2025Adjective: comfortingServing to improve a person's mood or restore a physical well-being. (Definition from Oxford Languages)Personally, I was seeking a comforting moment. Something to redirect my thoughts into an action of some sort. Something positive in a creative way. Just last night. It was decided. I wanted to send some Yelp love to California. The recent wildfires reminded me of a town that went through something similar over a year ago. A town on the island of Maui where I resided + worked prior, now sadly gone. Recurring in my thoughts, the words comfort and comforting kept appearing. Focused, I searched my digital photo album for snapshots of a past trip to California. Ones that weren't posted on Yelp. An experience that resonated with the two words that somehow became the inspiration for my next review. A bowl of soup, whether at home or at a restaurant like Boudin SF can bring a moment of comfort. For me, it's that first spoon of creamy New England-style clam chowder. And, breaking off a piece of the best sourdough bread in the world. To dip into the soup, to accompany my spoon of chowder. To enjoy as I pull apart, the sourdough bread moist with soup yet crunchy on the outer crust. The smell of this amazing bread, the sound as pieces are teared to enjoy. Boudin Bakery, recognized as the oldest operating business in San Francisco. The original mother dough used to create this iconic bread, dates back to the first loaf made in 1849. Unchanged, unaltered. Nothing like it anywhere else. The best. Delightful. Comforting. To my emotions, my tummy, my senses. An overall dining experience at Mainplace Mall, Santa Ana. Lunch at Boudin SF. A memorable visit, delicious dishes and pleasing service. Comfortable ambiance. A comforting moment created. In 2023, summer trip to Anaheim. Do you know what's more significant and comforting than Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl from Boudin SF? Comfort from people. Love.In the most powerful way, people can make a difference. Comforting and from the heart. Sending warm thoughts and love from Hawai'i to California.

I have a rewards account with Boudin where I get a free loaf of bread with a purchase each month. I stopped by the Boudin's at the Main Place Mall on January 31. I purchased a .5# sourdough oval. I earned points to my account, but my free 1# loaf did not show up in my account, so I was sent to the manager where I was told she would correct it. She looked at my receipt and said I earned my points, but that the purchase did not qualify towards the free loaf because I used a gift card! The only way I could earn the reward was to pay CASH ONLY, no credit cards or gift cards allowed! So my question is...are all stores independently owned where each store has their own term/rules? I've always used a gift card for my purchases and this is the first time I've encountered this problem! I asked what I had to do to get my free loaf and she said buy something with cash. Luckily I had $3 in my wallet, so I bought a dinner roll for $1.25. The worker proceeded to get my loaf of bread and sliced it for me, but when I got home, I noticed that he didn't even put my dinner roll in my bag! And I'm not about to run back to the store to tell them they didn't give me the roll since I'm 10 miles away from that store...I only stopped here because it was on my way home.I had such a frustrating experience and totally dumbfounded that this happened!Any other rewards members have any similar experiences/frustrations (no matter which location you went to)?

atmosphere is great! Location is on the side of the mall and there is an entrance that allows you to enter without actually going into the mall which is great. The service is wonderful - probably the best part of the experience. The food - a bit overpriced for the actual quality of food. I would compare this to a slightly better/more expensive version of panera (in terms of menu and pricing) The food was good but the coffee was absolutely horrible which is a shame. Definitely one of the better options for eating in the mall tho!

I haven't been to a Boudin SF location In years and upon picking up a new pair of glasses next door, I thought I'd stop by. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder soup in sourdough bowl and an iced tea. It wasn't terrible but biggest issues were with the soup being much to salty and the bowl wasn't even warm to eat while finishing soup. It wasn't very crowded at all as it was about 11am and table I sat at wasn't cleaned. Just not the experience you want, especially when it's so expensive these days for eat out anywhere.

Vibes were super similar to a Panera, it did not feel like the Boudin in SF. Parking lot is quite large as this is outside the mall, and the establishment itself is pretty big. I would say it seats close to fifty or so people, probably more I'm not a great estimator. I believe that all orders must be placed and paid for using their giant tablets. I went around 6pm and the line wasn't too bad, and my two friends and I were able to snag a table. We waited about ten minutes or so for our food to get to us and it was piping hot when it arrived. I ordered the half sandwich half soup combo and got the rustic tomato soup with a turkey cranberry sandwich. Can't go wrong with tomato soup, it was nice and warm, not too filling and good flavor. The sandwich was okay, kind of dry and I wish there was more spread or more cranberries in it.

This Boudin is located in the Mainplace Mall in Santa Ana, making it a very convenient location to stop by while shopping. I've had Boudin in the Bay Area before and it was amazing, but it's good to know that there are some in this area as well. I ordered the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. The soup was chunky and had a lot of clam pieces inside which I enjoyed. I thought the bread had a great texture, soft on the inside and not too hard outside. My only complaint was that the soup to bread ratio was uneven. I felt like there was way too much bread and not enough soup, which was a bit upsetting. Also, the bread turtle looked really cute, but was rock hard despite not being out for long. This made it very difficult to eat even after dipping the pieces into the soup. Overall, I would recommend this location if you're craving clam chowder bread bowls. The service is quick and the restaurant is very clean. Unfortunately, I think the bread animals are more for picture purposes, so I would most likely not order one again.

First time visiting a Boudin other than the San Francisco location. It was nice and quiet. Lots of food options and plenty of seating inside and outside. You are able to order ahead and pickup, order at a kiosk, or order with a cashier. I ordered in person and sat down at a booth with my son. The aisles were stroller friendly. The soup was yummy, I've been craving broccoli cheddar and the bread tasted fresh! Will definitely come back again.

I have been to locations in the area but this was my first time here. I got my favorite grilled cheese with bacon and got the pizza for the first time. The pizza was so good! The sourdough crust was crispy and light. It was one of the best I have had in a while. I also enjoyed some of the pastries that were delicious. My partner got the broccoli cheese bowl and loved it. Everyone was really nice and it was on a less busy side of the mall so parking was easier. I will definitely be coming back for more pizza.
