Baja Fresh

I ordered the chicken ultimo burrito and it did not disappoint. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the mixture of ingredients really stood out. However, the burrito was a little heavy on the rice, which overpowered some of the other flavors.The salsa bar was a nice touch, especially the roasted salsa, which paired perfectly with my meal.

Before taking my first bite, my coworkers and I had a discussion on how we barely see any Baja Fresh around. After tasting the food and getting severe food poisoning, I now know why!The rice and beans both had a weird old food taste to them. I ended up only taking two bites out of the rice but insisted on eating most of my beans. That was a bad call on my part. I should have followed my heart after that first bite. The "fish," are comparible to fish sticks. Like did I seriously just pay over $13 for this. This was lacking flavor. The only thing helping me down it was the hot salsa. I am not sure if it was a combo of everything on this plate, but almost immediately I started feeling sick at work and then while driving home. I guess if you are looking for a cleanse of your stomach, try this place out. I am beyond disappointed in the not so fresh quality of food that made me super sick. This might have scared me for life coming here. And that is a big statement as I frequented Baja Fresh often. I can't believe the bad food that was served to me today.

8/8/24 Hubby was craving Baja shrimp burrito & so far Baja Fresh makes it best!Unfortunately there's only so far & few locations left. This one is 45 mikes from Montclair. Luckily though, we wanted to drive down towards the OC, so it made sense.This is a very minuscule store in a small strip mall that is just a space to order & shares a space with other tiny eateries. The cashier is courteous. The "sauce/salsa" bar has seen its prime, the ice already melted to keep the salsas fresh & cold. I ordered an ultimo & regular shrimp burrito to go with ready within 5-7 minutes. I was surprised when the tsb was $33 & some change. Wow! $33 for 2 burritos!!! Dang! Granted, it came with fresh tortilla chips (small serving) but Gosh! Alright, why the 4 stars? My shrimp burrito was oh so good! Size is plentiful, bursting with fresh flavors, seasoning is perfect...need I say more? Hubby agreed my burrito tastes better than his ultimo burrito.

The grilled/blackened shrimp is really good. I ordered the burrito with shrimp. Order it with less beans though. I feel like they put way too much beans and not enough shrimp. They have a salsa bar with variety and pickled veggies and cilantro and lemon and onion, which is nice.

It's like Chipotle without the price hike since they don't give inflated portions anyways anymore but you get a salsa bar and more options :). I think their tacos are pretty popular (especially the fish), but I got their spicy Mexican pizza! I was rather surprised cuz I expected like fast food kind of environment, but it was rather clean and everything was kept on ice. The cashier (korean) was also very sweet and chill and her coworkers were promptly in taking over/the cook was having a good time. As for the Mexican pizza, unfortunately I had to take it to go, but heated up in the air fryer it's bomb. The sauce is kind of like a smokey Chipotle sauce and it's not that tomatoey, more like a quesadilla with toppings. Flavor is on the more neutral side so I recommend getting their salsa. Their mango salsa was a surprising twist! It's just of like a lime mango applesauce?? It was good but I ended up eating it by itself LOL. Their spicy salsa does have a kick to it ( the liquid one), wasn't a fan of the chunky one. And their pico de gallo had a good variety. It's also located in a food hall so i was surprised to look up and see many other restaraunts lol, but I find parking may be limited ( like 2-3 rows).

Food is just below average but that's expected at main stream "Mex" food. What is NOT expected is the fact a chicken burrito and a coke is freaking $19!!! Wow!!

My order was completely wrong...I wish I opened up the burrito but to make it worse it was really cold even when there was no one ordering/busy. The prices don't justify this unpleasant experience.

Why does it seem like all Baja Fresh stores have gone way downhill? Worker was hesitant to enter my rewards number saying they didn't accept it anymore - isn't this being part of a franchise? After that he was just rude and couldn't be bothered. He also didn't offer any chips with my order. For $17 you can definitely get a better meal elsewhere. Won't be back.

Ordered $44 of food and was given two napkins. Went back to get more napkins for my group. Was offered only two additional napkins. Insane, considering most of the food items are eaten by hand. Also included in my order was a purchase of chips for $4.50 to go. Asked for a container for salsa. Was told to use the little cups at the salsa bar.Horrible customer service practices.

Food had zero flavor! So disappointing. The old guy with glasses taking my order was very rude and didn't like me modifying my order. He just wanted to be slumped over watching his phone, which was noticeably loud the whole time I was there. The salsa bar was low and the options were not available and looked old. This was about 4pm in the afternoon, so maybe they just don't care to restock at a certain time. The tortilla tasted old and nasty. My black beans did not taste like anything. So weird! Baja Fresh just can't keep up with their name any more! Not to mention, this food plaza's parking lot allows people to leave their pet feces behind, a lot of the grass area by the parking spots is covered with it. So disgusting to see before heading in. 8-(
