Went here because it was on the fork on the road card. It was a nice, small family owned restaurant. Fried chicken is AMAZING. Definitely get it. I thought the pie was going to be really good as well but it was pretty normal. They did have some unique flavors. Service was good! Would go here again. We also had the jalepeno poppers and fried mushrooms. Both were just okay.

Visiting friends in Marshall and they took us to this cafe for breakfast. Food and service was great. Would love to come back for dinner to have the salad bar and fried chicken. And prices, you can't beat these prices. We had four people and it was less than $40.

This restaurant is almost something that would be featured on a PBS special about small towns in the Midwest or on a Sunday morning show about bygone eras. The feel is nostalgic and old in a way that even predates my 47 years of life having grown up on the Indiana side of the Wabash River that skirts this region. Maybe it is the very old wood paneling or maybe it is the 90+ year old farmer and his wife that appear in my peripheral, a city girl like me has stepped a bit back in time by coming here from Terre Haute for breakfast with my folks. But despite my "city"-fied view of the country roots in which I grew up and assuming that nobody comes to small towns like this anymore for a meal, I am shocked when we barely get a seat when we enter into the almost dilapidated building called the West Union Cafe on a Sunday about 10:15AM. It is a tiny interior with enough cramped seating on crappy chairs and tables for maybe 40 (and it still might be a fire hazard at 30 people). We only actually were able to sit because a nice couple of two from the area who were themselves just seated at a larger table for maybe four offered us to share their table with them. A sign that I have left the big city and am around the welcoming world of my midwestern roots. So in the company of kind strangers, my folks and I enjoyed their prized "Fork in the Road" winning fried chicken (called "broasted chicken" on the actual menu), a create your own omelet (ordered right before their 11am breakfast cut off time on a Sunday) and beef & noodles. Of course all the fixings of pea salad, rhubarb pie and slaw on the side as well. To an outsider, this food seems heavy, non-healthy, greasy, too much, but as I shake off my hard city exterior, I am reminded that this is a meal of home, made from love by this small community. This is authentic and real in a way that a meal in a fancy city or even a chain branded I-Hop would never understand. Maybe the dated ambiance reminds me of my roots or maybe the kindness of strangers infused my meal, but our food was good, bountiful and real. The staff was friendly, local, hustling and kind to accommodate all. Before we left there was a line out the door of people waiting. We did find out that they take reservations as well, so maybe call in advance if you are driving far. There is nothing else around this restaurant, so a trip to the West Union Cafe in West Union is the journey and the destination. On the counter when we paid the check, there was a sign up sheet for Father's Day and also info about the fish frys that occur I believe on Fridays in the summer. If parking is full in the front, you can pull around back and park in the open lot there as well. It might be cash only, not certain, but prices are cheap. I am so glad we came here for breakfast. A good meal amongst good people that knocked the hard edge off this city girl to remind her that life can be good, happy and more simple if you take the road less traveled from time to time.

I stopped in for a few pieces of pie to-go. The pie here is exceptional! I loved the peanut butter pie the best, it is unlike any pb pie I have had before. It is more like a pudding base and not cream cheese based. I saw the food the patrons were eating while waiting for my to-go order. Breakfast looked on point, and I cannot wait to go back to try their non-dessert items.

Chicken doesn't get much better than this! Ive been wanting to ty this spot for years but never found the time when we were visiting. The Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes were an excellent compliment to the chicken. Then the pies happened. We took home a slice of peanut butter, coconut, peach and black berry. The peanut butter blew my mind! They were all outstanding to say the least. Just wish I could juggle a PB pie onto the flight home tomorrow. Everyone in the vicinity of this place should go!!

Best grilled blackened catfish in this part of the country.Looks like a hole in the wall, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't stop. Down home atmosphere, reasonable prices and great food. What more do you want! Stop! Eat! Enjoy!

Really good broasted chicken, and cheap too! Half a chicken and two sides for under $9! Chicken is crispy and juicy and lighter than normal fried chicken.

Outstanding small cafe in a small town. Priced right and the food is great. Bring your appetite when you come for breakfast here. All the food is homemade and the best Pie and Fried chicken in the valley. They take reservations on Sunday for their fried chicken so call ahead. Family run and very friendly. Say Hi to Sam the waitresses on the counter.
