This park is located right down the street from the Indianapolis Police Headquarters. It has a large parking lot and a family center. It is a deceptively large park coving 128 acres. The park is pretty run down and the equipment is very worn. There is an accessible jungle gym with a slide, traditional swings and a splash pad. The play areas ground is lined with dirt and wood chips. The park has two full basketball courts that are in very good shape. There is a small playground by the courts, but the equipment is in the same condition as the other one, poor. The grounds could use some landscaping. There are picnic tables around the park and you will find a nice paved trail there. Other of the parks amenities include disc golf, a decent little lake (not for swimming or fishing though). The lake is very soothing. The park has a bathroom facility that looked a bit rough from the outside, so I chose to not even venture inside. This park is ok. However, I would not recommend it for the littles one to play at, per se. But it does have a nature appeal and with its trail and fields, it can give you an alternate workout spot.Fun Fact: The park use to be the home of the Children's Zoo from 1964 to 1987. You will see remnants from the zoo, statues of a monkey and a frog on tall post around the park.

This park is great and pretty unused. There's a section for big kids and little kids and they are joined by a ramp in between. I also like that there are handles for your little ones to hold onto when going up and down the steps. I wish it were a little cleaner from debris but it's a really great park. The police station is literally across the street and the family center is directly next to this park. There is another playground at this park next to the basketball courts and there is a trail here as well. Hidden treasure kind of a park.

The park is huge with open prairie and lawns that run from 30th to 38th street on the near east side. As many other reviews have mentioned, there is room for frisbee golf in addition to the other amenities. The north end has numerous basketball courts and a small playground by one of the shelters. There are several shelters scattered throughout the park. On the south end, a local police check-in spot lies on the southwest corner across the street from the Community Center.Near the center is a nice playground and a small pond. The park has history: The Children's Zoo was here from 1964 to 1987 before transitioning to the full zoo at White River Park in 1988. If you walk around the playground, you will see a couple pedestals, one with a frog and the other with a chimp sitting on top. If you find some old photo of the zoo, it is fun to try and see where the attractions were located. (Some are still identifiable.)If you like getting outdoors, there is plenty of room to walk or play while leaving your car in the huge lot on the south end of the park.Review #695

I agree with Byron this is definitely one of the more challenging courses in Indy, especially the 3 holes. The trails aren't too bad and the course is usually not too crowded. The scenery isn't awful, but it isn't the best. The area where the park is might be consider sketchy after dark, but there is a Police Headquarters really close if anything goes down (I sound really ghetto there). If you are decent at throwing a 'bee I would definitely recommend this course it tests all parts or your game.FYI: I posted pics from all the tee boxes and the actual maps of the holes (12 doesn't have a map)

One of the more challenging disc golf courses in Indy, Washington park offers a full 18 hole experience that winds throught the wooded areas of Washington park. If you have just gotten into the sport this is a great way to lose a few new discs, which at $8-$22 a piece might not be the best idea. The trails along the course are a mess. Rather trashed and since the footwear of the typical Frolfer is aflipflops it can be quite treacherous.

I have to say I do love how much better layout this frisbee park is than brookside. I exactly think it's a better course for beginners to began with than brookside. The holes are a little easier here, and I just love how it's laid out

Maybe one of the most complete parks in the state for disc golfers. The course offers many different obstacles with interesting tree placement. The PARs are fairly old consisting mainly of 4s and a few 5s......it feels great to shoot a -27 but lets be real here. I cant think of one hole that should be more than a 3.Attention Avon Boy Scouts or whomever built those tee pads at the Avon Park....come to the hood to see the proper length of a tee pad! The tees and chains are old and beat up....but they work just fine. The signs are pointless and usually covered by lame graffiti.

This park has multiple amenities. There is a paved walking trail through the park that gets a lot of use in the warmer months. There is also a disc golf course with some fairly challenging holes that go down a ravine and through the woods. Here's a tip: send a spotter down the hill before you throw. I've lost 3 discs here through the years. The community center is one of the nicer ones...it's huge! It's almost more like a YMCA than a parks building. It features a huge gym with bleachers and there are free exercise classes 5-6 days a week. A computer room, boxing ring, air hockey, and ping pong are some of the other things available. Outdoor pool and day camp in the summer...you know, for the kids. Staff is really friendly and so are the other patrons. My friends laugh and say "Oh...you're going to work out in the ghetto...don't get shot," but this is a really great facility and the people are really nice. Many of the IndyParks staff are apathetic, but that isn't the case here. I highly recommend checking this park out...you might just see me there! There's also a police station adjacent...hopefully that puts any safety concerns you may have to rest.

I have been visiting this park for many years so I felt a review was necessary. I live in walking distance from the park, and I often walk the trails in the early mornings or late evenings. I enjoy playing Pokemon, and there is a gym located at the entrance of the park for the app. In addition, I cycle through the park and people watch. One side of the park offers disc golf, the other has a new black top court. The park also offers shelters, and playgrounds. IMPD has an a obstacle course in back of the center. Inside the community center is a large gym for indoor sports. They offer aerobics, badminton, basketball, dance classes, boxing, and pool tables. There is a kitchen and event space for rent as well. It is a nice park, although I think it is under utilized.
