Being from south Texas it's hard to find what I need and miss. This place has a little bit of everything. They have a small prepared food area which is good. As well as all the meats you would need like menudo and meat for carne asada etc. They have chorizo homemade which is very good as well as some Mexican cheese. Place is clean organized and staff is friendly and helpful. They also have sweet bread pan dulce fresco which is nice. This is a one stop shop for sure.

I've waited for months for this carniceria to open. It's situated right on the corner of Pendleton Pike and Post Road. I finally stopped in today to check it out. It's your atypical small carniceria with the usual items. They also have a meat counter, and a small food service operation where they serve tacos, burritos, and tamales. They also sell fresh carnitas by the pound. Here's where the problem arose. The carnitas LOOKED great and are prepared the right way by deep frying in manteka (fresh lard). So I had them wrap up two pounds of it to take home. When I got home and tasted them it was a serious let down. There was no seasoning at all on them, none. And there was no citrus hint whatsoever, It's like they cubed the pork and simply tossed it into the lard to fry. At $5.99 a pound I basically wasted $12.00 on unseasoned deep fried pork. I should have asked for a sample before I purchased. Don't make the same mistake I did, ask for a sample before you commit to purchasing any of their prepared meats. And since this would be the same meat they use for their tacos and burritos they would have to be a let down also. I don't see myself going back there. I'll stick to the best carniceria I've found in Indy. Carniceria Guanajuato on North Shadeland Ave. I've purchased carnitas in bulk from their food service operation numerous times over the years and I've never been disappointed.
