Originally known as the Post Theatre, this building was originally built in 1929. It's actually the only original Fort Benjamin Harrison building still being used for its original purpose - as a venue for movies and entertainment. While previously it served the military here, the fort itself is long gone and the building now falls under the non-profit umbrella of Arts for Lawrence. Arts for Lawrence acquired the building in 2016 and began some pretty significant renovations including new technologies, film capabilities, cosmetic upgrades, and a building addition. The building can be used for both movies and stage performances and is actively used for both. Indy-based Heartland Film recently moved into the Fort Ben area (in the Sterrett Center) and often utilizes this theater including for its current holiday movie series. Accessibility has greatly improved under Arts for Lawrence (fantastic non-profit), though there are obviously limits given the age of the building. As a general rule, attending events here should be no problem for those, like myself, with mobility issues. There's parking right across from the building. I'm not sure about the seating capacity here, though it's a relatively intimate setting with probably no more than a couple hundred seats. The theatre itself is close to several nearby restaurants and it's easy to make attending an event here a date night. Fort Harrison State Park is also less than five minutes away!

Just saw The Great Gatsby at this wonderful little community theatre. Comfortable tiered seating, nice sized stage and fresh-looking decor. Easy online booking and concessions in the lobby. Parking across the street.

A beautiful, cozy, historic theater which appears to be a hidden gem in the heart of Fort Ben. It has a very intimate feel due to the size of the space, but I thought that made the experience more enjoyable. The environment was lovely, great seating (every seat yields a great view), and the chairs were very comfy. Nice!!

I had no idea this theater was here! Apparently it was the old movie theater before Fort Ben closed. It is small, but the seats are comfortable and there appears to be a good view from everywhere. Seats were not assigned for the production I saw here, and it was good we arrived early! There was a line to get in an hour before curtain. Be ready to stand outside though if you arrive early as there really isn't a lobby to wait in. Groups that arrived closer to curtain time couldn't sit together, but everyone did get a seat. Parking across the street was almost full an hour early, but it seemed there were other lots nearby for overflow.

This was the first time we were experiencing theater in the US and it was pretty good. The theater is located in the North-East of Indianapolis in Lawrence. However, it is not too far. The theater itself would have a seating capacity of about 250-300 folks, so it is not very large and hence, you get the experience of watching the performance quite closely. The seating is fairly comfortable. The stage is not very large, especially in terms of depth, but good enough for stand-up shows like the one we watched - Shadowland Show. The theater itself doesn't have any other amenities, except for the restrooms. During the interval, the food available for purchase was mainly sodas, chips, and biscuits. Nothing fancy. There is a free parking ground, right opposite to the theater. There are a couple of cafes and sandwich shops like Panera Bread and Subway, less than a mile away. Overall, a decent theater to enjoy the time.

Tucked away inside the maze of the old Fort Ben is the renovated movie theater that is now a local live theater area for a new generation of folks. The staff who works here are passionate about what they do and it shows. Every fall they have a clean up event where they call on volunteers to come help out. The theater itself is small and intimate. Parking is across the street, but free. Fort Ben has a handful of delicious and local restaurants and sandwich shops that deserve your business before the show.

Great historic theater in the heart of Fort Ben. They've renovated the old movie house the soldiers used with top notch lighting, sound and staging. Seats are comfy and the atmosphere is beautiful. And there are great restaurants nearby to make a night of it.
