One of my favorite bars in town! Whenever we go out we always make a stop at the root cellar for the cheap drinks and lively atmosphere. I always suggest going on a dance party night or a themed night because it is always more fun that way. The bartenders are a little rude but that is to be expected from a packed bar on a Saturday night where you aren't trying to get good service just a quick cheap drink

Lovely drinks and each room possessed its own unique ambiance. Reasonable prices. HOWEVER, I have never encountered such outwardly rude bar tending.

When I just want to go dance with no cares about anything else, I get a nice pre-buzz, then call Uber to take me to The Root Cellar. LOVE the lighting. LOVE the eclectic clientele. LOVE the music. LOVE the sound system. LOVE ALL the staff. I can just GO there, get DOWN, and just FEEL the music. Nobody bothers ANYBODY here. I LOVE this place!

Cool and fairly priced drinks, fun space, but the music is always way too loud for such a small bar. It's not a club in Hell's Kitchen, so the music could chill out a bit.

I totally loved the atmosphere of this bar! It was definitely more low key and intimate than the college bars in Bloomington. Kind of difficult to find upon first going there, but you'll get used to it! I went on a first date here, and The Root Cellar provided the perfect environment to get to know someone!

I was in Bloomington for the weekend - and this was by far the best bar I went to. The atmosphere is the bomb; it's great for dancing, but also has the room for you to go off and sit. In addition, the cocktails were insanely cheap. A cocktail is normally $9-$12 in Louisville, KY - all my cocktails ranged from $5-$7!Such a great place to go overall - be sure to go if you're visiting Bloomington!

This is one of the most unique and interesting bars in Bloomington. It's in the basement and there are cool little rooms with couches so you can hang and talk with your friends. The mixed drinks are pretty darn expensive and the music is often super loud. But it's one of those neat places you don't want to miss out on. They have dance parties, karaoke nights and live music. The live music is always way too loud, so I would skip that if I were you, but the dance parties can be really fun especially if they have a certain theme for the night. They always have PBR and interesting mixed drinks.

Horrible service, bartender tried to slap my drink out of my hand and laid hands on me/ shoved me out the door because my sister grabbed a lime out of a tub (the tub was sitting in front of her on the bar). Insane overreaction, insanely rude & aggressive bartender, don't recommend this place.

They denied my 22 year old friend with a Pennsylvania license even when his vax card and all IDs confirmed his birthday is real. Lol.

Definitely not a fan of the root cellar at all. Some of the worst music I've ever heard in a Bloomington bar and such a weird vibe. Better off going to Roy's or sports instead
