My boyfriend proposed in the Gardens here and it couldn't have been more romantic and unique. We stayed at the hotel and had breakfast in the morning - exceptional from start to finish. The decor, scenery, community, food and service was top notch and unlike any other hotel stay you'll find. I recommend for special events, anniversaries, a gifted stay, or just because! Irwin Gardens will always have a special place in my heart

My review is based upon the winter tour, not actually staying at the bed and breakfast as a guest. The tour during the winter allows access to any place in the house that is not occupied by guests staying at the Inn. The summer tour is limited to the first floor of the inn but has more to see in the Italianate garden. The home was built in 1854 with two major expansions and renovations, including the conversion from the Elizabethan style to the sleeker Edwardian style decor in 1910 while adding the garden on the east side of the house. The garden was undergoing some maintenance during my visit in March, so there wasn't as much visual appeal as some of the pictures I have seen online. Still, the construction and replanting should be completed and everything back to be worth stopping by this summer. The house itself is amazing. I kept saying "Wow!" so much that I couldn't help but feel like I was at a loss for anything intelligent to say! If you have any appreciation for craftsmanship and detailed artistry then this place is a must visit. For example, the library is lined with ornate book shelves. It appears like there is flocked wallpaper above the cases, but is actually stretched silk fabric that fits so perfectly together that I wouldn't have noticed if not told. I was told I could touch the fabric and felt it give instead of feeling a hard wall. This stretched fabric not only looks fantastic, but allows the panels to be removed and cleaned if needed. The woodwork is at a master level. Frequently, ornate figures are carved and placed in the upper corners of the doorways. Near the hydraulic elevator, four of the five senses are depicted in the hall leading there. Stained glass is also found frequently. The library has each of the seven windows with an inserted piece representing the day of the week. The stairwell windows contain the four fraternity/sorority emblems of the descendants of the original owners. Most of the furnishings are from the original owners with the exception of the family paintings which where mostly removed. Some modernization has been added to the bathrooms to make the bed and breakfast up to code, but the bedrooms and sitting rooms have retained the feel of the family home. Note that tours are scheduled and tickets need to be made online in advance. The gardens will probably be open a couple times a week for visitors to stroll through once the maintenance is completed, but to see inside, you would need to make arrangements. Tours run about $15 for the hour long visit.Review #238

Such a beautiful home in an extraordinary setting! Lovely hosts, delicious breakfast, huge bath & bedroom. And then those gardens & fountains!!! We had breakfast on the terrace overlooking the gardens. It was a European experience. As close as we will get to a European Garden in the year of Covid-19! This B & B is impeccably kept!!! We can't wait for our next visit!

Magical, old world, great gatsby, secret garden are all ways to describe this beautiful quaint B&B and Wedding venue. I've been going here for years and the staff is super friendly. Each visit I find another charming detail that makes me fall in love with the Irwin Gardens all over again. Weddings here are out of this world amazing. Irwin gardens is a hidden southern Indiana Gem well worth the trek.

Spectacularly restored 100 year old mansion with beautiful grounds that are suitable for any event from intimate overnight stays for 2 in their bed and breakfast to large wedding parties with plenty of seating and beautiful places for photos all around the grounds, the gardens, and inside the house. The property takes up the entire downtown city block, and is walking distance to many eateries, bars, and shops. No expense was spared in the restoration of this amazing property.

This Bed & Breakfast was an amazing stay! The room I stayed in was called Joseph Irwin. It was beautiful! The room was very clean. had teas, coffees, and water. They placed two chocolates on my bed. The appearance of the room is so historic and breath taking. The host showed me the whole home which did not disappoint. The beauty of this home is just amazing. There was complementary wine in the library room in the evening, and the host asks your preference in win so she can chill it. They have a tea room that has cute tea kettles and cups to use. The garden is just something to experience in the spring and summer. It is absolutely worth the price. I would stay here again and plan to in summer. You are close to downtown Columbus so walking 5 mins down the road gets you to some really good restaurants. Parking was easy and convenient for the stay. They offer tours set up by the visitors center right acrossed the street. The host is very accommodating with everything. You ask and she's on top of it. The breakfast was amazing! It started with a beautiful view of the garden outside the window and a beautifully set table. I had tea as requested, water, and orange juice. The first thing I ate was a fruit salad and very yummy banana bread muffin. The main dish was then served and it was sooo good. It was a arugula, feta cheese, almonds and white wine vinaigrette salad with bacon on the side and a poached egg over gruyere cheese hashed potatoes with chives grown from their garden. I would rate this Bed and breakfast 1000 out of 10.

Spectacular historical gem. You're welcomed by a sweetheart of an innkeeper (Brittany) who loves and cares for the guests as well as she does the home. Both she and the owner truly care about preserving the integrity of the home and its history to share with others. So many areas of the home to immerse yourself and take in, the best was having full-access to the original family's personal book collection in most every room. Many belonging to J. Irwin Miller who grew up in the home. He was a rare jewel of a human being, please read the history of this family! We truly felt like spoiled guests of the family (not a hint of being in a business). The breakfast was another delightful surprise and housekeeping was excellent. Lots of little treats like free tea, drinks, snacks, DVD's (if you really must) and great local wines every night! Finally, perfect walking distance to everything. Literally next door to famed architectural masterpieces by I.M. Pei and Eero Saarinen and a large Henry Moore sculpture a few feet away...if you can tear yourself away from the enormous formal garden! Enjoy!
