The Bush Family Restaurant

A hometown presence for many years, The Bush AKA The Bramble Bush, is the place to visit for their fried catfish or famous breaded tenderloin that looks likes it could feed an army! The building is not remarkable but it is a well known place to the locals for the best food served up piping hot and fresh if you love catfish coleslaw or a king sized tenderloin. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent. Brandy - our server was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the intimate feel of personal service. Be sure to check out this treasure in Terre Haute! You'll be happy you did!

Got take out here yesterday. The pork tenderloin sandwich was as big as my cat. Delicious! Ordered onion rings and hush puppies. I have enough for at least 4 meals. If you are in or driving through Terre Haute stop in this non assuming restaurant. The cod is delicious. It's family owned so the pride and friendliness shines through.

Dont go here or at least get food to go because if u dont arrive by the time u tell them they will have your food just sitting out until you get there instead of making fresh food probably wont be going here again

I was looking for a nice hole in the wall type restaurant and this one definitely fit the bill! I ordered their Saturday special of Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. I was excellent. Even the green beans were good! My colleague had the Chopped Steak with fries and a salad. He said that his was very well seasoned. I would definitely recommend The Bush Family restaurant for an American style home cooked meal. Our waitress was Grace and she did a great job of taking care of our needs.

My expectations were not high from the get go, but I wanted this experience to be at least a 3. But short our kind waitress and the basket of hushpuppys (which even those needed about 1 minute less in the fryer), I can only cough up a 2 for this review. My parents called it the Bramble Bush at first, which I think was the former name way back when. We went there because their visiting daughter (me!) said that she wanted to enjoy a "fish fry," specifically catfish (which I prefer over cod). I rarely eat anything fried and it seemed like my summer time in Indiana was a perfect time to do so if I had a hankering for it. They nixed the idea of a Jonas fish fry for they said that would be bad fish and suggested the Bush or in their head the Bramble Bush. The young waitress was attentive and friendly. There are many options on the menu and indeed I went with the fried catfish. By no means was it really bad, I just wanted it to better. I wanted the fries that came with it to be less fried. It is almost as if their oil is not rotated enough or something and like the hushpuppies, the fried part is a bit oily and too much. This restaurant has a history and I can appreciate that. The history and its dated feel hang like a old coat over the entire restaurant. I kind of wanted to pull down the pictures that were hanging next to me in my booth and rub them down with dish soap and water to give them a new sparkle. I felt the same about the fingerprinted menu I was handed. I don't know, nothing about the ambiance of this place made me feel like the place was super clean or welcoming, but more dark and a bit drab...like something that has withstood the stand of time, but not sure why. A bygone. So I have to say that I have had better. This is not an endorsement not to go, but simply know that you will not see me there. I will continue to look for that fish fry I am craving and I have fond memories of from my youth.

An 86 year old dear friend of mine , who lives at an assisted living facility in Terre Haute expressed a desire to have a Pork Tenderloin sandwich. I couldn't find it on the menu of most restaurants in Terre Haute. Saw it here at The Bush Family restaurant but couldn't find it on the food delivery services I use. I called the restaurant and spoke to " Jordan ". She worked with me to have the owner (?) deliver the sandwich. Her customer service skills were awesome . I really appreciated the care she took in calling me back to ensure we got the food to my friend at the right time. My friend said it was the biggest tenderloin she had seen and really appreciated the food. Everything was delicious.

It's just a wonderful, wonderful place to good for delicious fish and tenderloin. Arrive empty. Leave filled. Their servers are down to earth and efficient. Depending on which door you enter, make sure to trek around the area to see the neatly organized pictures relating to many different topics. The price is very, very reasonable for great food, service, and atmosphere. Do NOT delay!!

We went for the gigantic breaded pork tenderloin sandwich. It was excellent. The sides were good also!! Service was very good. I will be back next month for sure.
