Super authentic, the food was absolutely delicious and you can literally see them making it right in front of you. This is located inside of a grocery store. Definitely worth the visit. I would come here again. They did not have any chips and salsa upon my visit unfortunately

I've been searching for flavorful street tacos in Indianapolis since I've moved from Texas. I've had good tacos in Indy before but not ones that I would crave again or ones that taste like home. But boyyyy am I so glad I stopped by this grocery store taco shop because their Al pastor taco is to die for. The pork was so well seasoned and had a good level of spice. The meat was also very tender. I've been searching for a good al pastor taco and I can finally call Indianapolis home now that I've found this place. Not only are these tacos tasty and authentic, they are cheap. Highly recommend if you are looking for true authentic mexican tacos.

I had been on a quest to find Taqueria el Puerto for months...a mission quest of sorts. Top Indy chefs and foodies kept posting photos of delicious-looking tacos and burritos from a mysterious taqueria. They proclaimed "best tacos ever!" and rhapsodized about the homemade salsas, authenticity, etc...all while stubborning refusing to tag or identify the location. I started obsessively searching through Google images of local taquerias and Mexican groceries, trying to find the same wall paneling and chairs/tables from the mystery photos...yeah, it got weird. We finally caught a break from an acquaintance, and Taqueria el Puerto off of Prospect and S. Keystone was disclosed. The taqueria is inside a brightly colored grocery, with a small, mishmash dining room with attached kitchen. The menu's prices are very cheap; $2 tacos and $6 giganto burritos. Although the menu's offerings are pretty simple (tacos, burritos, tortas, and quesadillas), a wide variety of meat options exist...well beyond basic steak, chicken, and chorizo. Specials also exist...such as caldo soup and molcajete. I ordered the asada burrito and it was enormous, packed with tons of flavorful steak, avocado, rice, beans, tomatoes, and more. My dining partner ordered multiple tacos, trying out the lomo (tenderloin) and chorizo. The cherry-on-top was the complimentary salsa verde and roja, along with jalapeño-pickled onions and peppers. The salsa verde was so bright and fresh-tasting; it just tasted "green" and complimented the tacos perfectly. Horchata and an aqua fresca option were available, along with a cooler of Mexican sodas and juices. This is not a place you get chips and salsa, nor can order a side of guacamole...but you really won't miss it. You order at the counter and service was very friendly and fast. When you check out, take your bill to the grocery store register...there's no tip line if you pay by credit/debit, so make sure to bring cash to tip your server. Feel free to peruse the small grocery too; it's not as large or polished as some other more well-known carnecerias/groceries, but it was clean and still had a diverse selection of products. I understand why so many people wanted to keep Taqueria el Puerto on the down low, but why deny someone the pleasure of enjoying truly delicious Mexican food (while supporting a local business and exploring a neighborhood)? Taqueria el Puerto is now one of my top local Mexican eateries.

I can walk here from home. I can satisfy my taco craving. It's not Taco Bell. They're the real tacos. And I can get some groceries while I'm waiting for my food.

Don't eat here! No manchen ! Que tipo de comida es esto. Es en serio o una broma? Pedí una torta de milanesa pero con carne. Pero pan molida sin carne. A primer mordida, no se podía masticarDon't eat here!Is this serious or is this some kind of a joke? I asked for a breaded steak sandwich and all I got was grilled breadcrumbs without meat. And what's worse it was too tough to even chew.

Grocery store that serves amazing burritos for a very fair price at just over 6$ for a giant portion. Call ahead 10 minutes to avoid any wait and be sure to ask for the orange salsa! Horchata is good too, I like this place for lunch to go.
