This review is for the Cozy Farmhouse across from Shades State Park.We were looking for a nice, quiet getaway, close to Turkey Run and Shades state park, with room for the family and enough amenities to occupy the kids in case the weather didn't cooperate. Sugar Creek Retreat did not disappoint. The house is spacious, comfortable, nicely appointed, with a family friendly open concept. And talk about convenience, there are walking trails to Shades State Park literally across the road, and Turkey Run State Park is a easy 10 minute drive. The screened in porch offered a relaxing environment for evening conversations, and the firepit found us laughing while making smores. The book shelf in the living room is well stocked with games, and the satellite tv was loaded with options. My only negative comment might be that the internet reception could be improved, but hey, this is supposed to be vacation time spent with family.Oh, the homeowner Gabe is an excellent host, quick to respond, and always helpful. If you are looking for a quiet, clean and comfortable getaway, slightly off of the beaten path, this "Cozy Farmhouse", as it is called, may be exactly what you need to destress for a few days.

Nice secluded farmhouse. Enjoyed my stay with the wife. Quiet and lots of land. Nice shaded trees, and fire pit. House is spacious and many amenities. Planning to return next year. Perfect retreat to go and see the covered bridge. You find a better host like Gabe ! Next door to Shades State Park, another plus !

Sugar Creek Retreat is by far one of my favorite places in the midwest. Nestled on a great plot of land. Down the street from an easy family friendly walk and one that gets a little tougher but beautiful. Beyond the river for floating or canoeing, Turkey Run State Park and on and on. The two houses are fantastic. We have stayed in both for different occassions and can't really decide which one is my favorite. They each have charm and comfort. If I had to make complaint it is there is little cell service for my kids ipads. And that means we have to play games, build fires, take walks and maybe read a book?! But really, is that a complaint when you are meant to enjoy the surroundings and getting away from the your hectic world? ps. Going to the surrounding small towns for lunch in free wifi is the perfect excuse for day excursions :)

Such a nice place to go and relax. When we first walked in it smell so clean the house was spotless. There is 2 rooms one has its own full restroom. The other room has two bunk beds with the bottom being a full size and top twin. That room has the restroom across from the the door. Kitchen is spacious and had everything we needed to cook our meals. There's stove, pots and pans, microwave, dishwasher, full fridge, dish towels, paper towels, coffee maker and filters(bring your own coffee there's non there) We just had to bring our food and condiments to cook. There's a screen porch with a hot tub which was awsome. There's a grill outside with table next to it. Such a peaceful place with nothing but trees sorounding the property so much privacy. There's also a book shelf with books and board games. We felt so comfortable like we were home we didn't want to leave. We will definitely be back.

We had such a perfect and lovely time at the Sugar Creek Farm House! It was a quaint, comfy cabin with just the right accommodation setup for our family scenario - grandparents with our 4 person family. The kitchen was fully stocked and very utilizable. The grounds were adventurous and outdoorsy. The fire pit and the trails on the grounds added to our enjoyment immeasurably. Thank you for such a wonderful Fall Break!

Beautiful spot located near hiking, canoeing, tubing, and camping. The property is secluded but very easy to find. The cabin is wonderfully decorated, cozy, and would be the perfect stay for friends, families, or couples looking to get away to the great outdoors.

This location was every bit as beautiful as I had hoped. The cabin was clean, comfortable living room space, well stocked kitchen( pots, dishes, coffee maker, etc) and all appliances worked well. We enjoyed the sitting area outside and utilized the wood burning fireplace. My only complaint was the noise factor in the first floor bedroom. I read the reviews that mentioned the noise from the furnace in the closet area but thought 'how loud can it be'. I consider myself a sound sleeper but it woke me many times during the night. I suppose I could have turned the heat off, but didn't think of it at the time. Perhaps something like basic insulation to that closet space would help with reducing the noise. I realize it is 'a cabin' but we paid well to stay there and this upgrade to reduce the noise would make the spot perfect. That being said, We hiked the preserves behind the cabin and then decided on TurkeyRun for our 'full day hike'. The area is beautiful, the cabin was wonderful, and we would love to return at another time to hike Shades.
