Not sure if this place is called southpaw because the owner is left-handed or not but his Gumbo was "right-on!"Upon entering I was greeted warmly by the cashier and asked what I'd like to order? I enquiredhow authentic the gumbo was and the owner quickly offered me a sample. One bite and I was convinced this was bayou The gumbo has seafood, sausage and chicken in a very smooth but not too thick roux. The seasoning had just enough kick but not overbearing.This was almost enough to feed two people. I'm definitely looking forward to returning to try their other entree's.

When I say that Chef Ali definitely made my Catfish and Perch just for me... He did!!! I asked him to dip them in Garlic Parmesan Sauce and he did just that!!! Excellent!!!

Stopped by here after hearing so many reviews. I tried the chicken wings, ox tails, and some of their sides. The chicken was good but could have been a little more seasoned. I really did like the ox tails as they was tender and juicy but the collards I had gotten as a side had no flavor what so ever. I had to put hot sauce to give them some life. The yellow rice was really good tho. My best friend did not like the baked beans. She said Ed they tasted bland. So it may just be a hit or miss with the sides. Everyone that worked there was nice and talked to ya. I do still want to try a few more items here though and not totally write them off. Hopefully next time things will be a bit more seasoned. I thought I had a pic of the oxtails but got deleted.

This is a POPUP business at the Fay Biccard Glick Neighborhood Center. So, not an everyday establishment, however, they acquired a Food Truck this past summer, but I don't think they are actively utilizing it. Follow them on social media to find out when the POPUP will happen, usually on Friday at Fay Glick, Upon arriving you will be greeted by a young lady who will take you order and another one will take your payment. While you are paying for your order the 1st young lady delivers your order to the kitchen. Orders are carry-out only, so you will have a seat in the waiting area and a short time later your order is delivered to you. I wanted catfish but the gumbo looked sooooo delicious that I ordered it too. The catfish (3 nice-sized pieces) included seasoned potato wedges, corn on the cob and pineapple coleslaw. The catfish was REAL CATFISH, not SWAI, disguised as catfish that most restaurants are serving, perfectly seasoned and battered. The catfish portions were large enough for me to have leftovers for fish and grits the next morning. Now for THE GUMBO! OH MY GOODNESS it was DELICIOUS!! I"m not expert on Gumbo, however My Mom is from NEW ORLEANS, so I know GOOD GUMBO! The roux was absolutely perfect! The dish included a crab-leg, chunks of chicken, sausage, shrimp, corn on the cob, celery, tomato and out of this world spices with a hint of rice! No okra, yeah, can't stand okra unless it's fried!! I was skeptical at first about purchasing it because of its price, $15.00, but well worth it. The portion was enough for 2 meals after I added more rice. Catch them if you can, you won't be sorry!P.S. Family owned!

I would give 0 stars if I could. The male part-owner is unprofessional. I spoke to him over the phone about a fundraiser event and he was all in. He gave me the company number to text and a month later after several unanswered emails and text messages I asked where the contract was and still did not receive one. Fast forward to a week ago I tried to set up a tasting to try the food and he said he was available for us to come to him or him to come to us. Then a couple days later when I tried to set up the tasting he said he was busy and not available until August and I sensed an attitude. I said fine can you email me the contract to secure the date. No response. Then today I get a text saying the date is no longer available. I 1000% wasted my time and do not recommend working with them to cater an event.

I've had just about everything on the menu and not one disappointment yet from the perfectly blended KO Burger to the Philly Cheese Steak egg rolls the portions are generous and the price is right check them out you'll be glad you did ..

Where: w 71st street glick center, setup as pickup and go from 5-9pm. Parking is accessible Payments- they even take Amex so that's good. Food- ordered seafood mac n cheese and the gumbo.The gumbo could have been a 5 but was only a 3.5, It had entirely too much oil, grease in it. Barely any rice was in there, until I thought they forgot it. I was highly disappointed in that because it was basically soup. However, the gumbo did have an excellent flavor and the bay leaves were left in. It's only for folks that like mild. If you need something with some kick or heat this isn't it. I even asked the young lady preparing my order if it was in there and she said yes, but it wasn't.The seafood Mac n cheese was a disappointment. The pasta was way overcooked and entirely too soft. There wasn't much seasoning either. It tasted like it was cooked totally separate and put together later. The shrimp didn't have any flavor. It's a good concept but needs a lot of work. Service - before the event I texted to get info and no response. But closer to the event they were more responsive through Facebook and answering phone to give clear directions and placing orders. The young ladies who helped you when you picked the order up were too distracted with texting on their cell phones and having private conversations out loud instead of ringing me up. Let's just say I hope they aren't the same resources working with customers on catering gigs. I would come back for the gumbo if they put rice in it because it really had a great flavor.

I have had food from Southpaw on two occasions. The first time I hired Southpaw to cater my Golf Leagues end of season celebration. The food was delicious !!! I typically hate vegetarian spaghetti but Southpaw's was excellent and so was the fried chicken, creamed spinach and potatoes. No one complained and that is rare for a group of 20 ladies. The second time I ordered a Henny Ham for Thanksgiving and it was amazing. You can't go wrong with Southpaw !!!!
