The Smokey Blue food truck was at Conner Prairie last night for the Headless Horseman Festival. (Are they always there? Must find out.) Anyway, my standards for festival food aren't high, but that's changed after this. I had a bbq chicken sandwich, great, and the fries were incredible. I know, fries! Others in my group ordered burgers and other sandwiches, pronouncing them all excellent. Now I'll check to see if there's a permanent restaurant, at the least I'll get their food truck's location schedule.

Smokey Blue is a newcomer to downtown Indy's Statehouse Market, a weekly market occurring each Thursday during Summer and early Fall at the Indiana Government Center. Smokey Blue, as you can probably guess, is a BBQ food truck with a menu that includes sandwiches (chicken, brisket, hot honey chicken, and pulled pork. The BBQ is Texas Style. They also offer So-Cal Burritos (I don't recall these being on the menu today, though I'll also admit I wasn't looking for them). Each sandwich offers a side and I also received a slice of corn bread. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. The chicken comes with either regular or spicy sauce. I opted for regular, however, in the future would probably go for spicy. Because of a work meeting during lunch, I hit the market early during the 10:30am-1:30pm hours. This isn't my favorite thing to do as trucks are typically still getting set up and meals can feel either rushed or incomplete. This was kind of true here as fries were not yet ready and with several people waiting it seemed a bit rushed. The nicely seasoned fries were good, however, they stuck together a bit. The people are very friendly here. There's an obvious desire to connect with customers. It also appears to be faith-based/inspired as there's a Scripture on the food truck. Smokey Blue also offers loaded fries, loaded mac, wings, and pork nachos. Like most food trucks, I do think some of the items are sporadically available. You can also get bottled water and soft drinks in can (Coke Products).I did also see one dessert on the menu - Smoked Apples with Brown Sugar, drizzled with Dulce de Leche and a delightful crumble on top on top of our own Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. I did not see them today, however, I'll likely try them in the future. I have a feeling this was somewhat hindered by my arriving early. This was a very solid 4-star, however, I can't quite get myself to go 5-star. Service was great, food was good, and prices were consistent with most food trucks. I will definitely return, however, I'll likely wait for them to get a bit more settled and not try to do lunch at 10:45am. Smokey Blue also offers catering and will appear at special events. Lots to love here - I look forward to returning in the future and hopefully forking over that fifth star!

I had the chance to try their food truck at the fishers spark festival. They had three different sandwich they options and I went with the pulled pork. They usually offer two sauces, a mild one and a spicier one but they only had the mild (thank goodness!). The pork was flavorful and not dry. The sauce was a nice compliment too. The Mac and cheese was just ok. The noodles were a bit soggy and there wasn't a ton of flavor. The cornbread was amazing. It was moist and flavorful. You didn't need butter or anything. Service was also friendly and willing to answer any questions. I was going to go with the nachos but the only sauce they put on them is a bit spicy. Would be nice if they used a cheese sauce vs shredded cheese.

Tried their food truck at the Irvington Halloween Festival and got a So-Cal Burrito with Brisket and LOVED it. I got it with the OG bbq sauce and it was seriously so good. Highly highly recommend. They were very nice and it was very quick!

Service - smiling, friendly. They enjoy serving people. The brisket is top notch. The peppered chicken is moist and full of flavor. Mac n cheese is evil-good. Haven't tried the apple pie yet, but looking forward to it.

Smokey Blue has some of the best BBQ in town. The meat was so good, tender, and packed with flavor that it could stand on its own without any kind of sauce. BUT... their sauces are incredible. I like some heat and the Blue Heat BBQ sauce really packed a punch of flavor and heat. I know this is a BBQ truck with awesome meat and sides but don't sleep on their dessert. If you ever find them with their smoked apple pie, you're going to want to order that and an extra for when you're sad the first one is gone. Can't recommend them enough to cater your event, bring their food truck or just find them around town for a lunch or dinner. Also, the owner, Craig, seems like a super great guy with a passion for food!

In early May we had contacted Smokey Blue about having them come to our neighborhood for a party we were having to celebrate the new playground being installed. They agreed to come to our event, and plans were made. The evening prior to the event we contact them to make sure everything was good for the next day. This is when we found out that our event was "lost" from their calendar because of a system change, and they had 3 other events planned that day so we were left high and dry without a food truck that we advertised for our event. Whenever a company switches systems part of the process is you verify all appointments make it to the new system. Sounds to me as they thought they would make more money at the other events so they would just "lose" our event on the calendar and not contact us. I would be very careful if you are using them when planning an event.
