Simply Southern Soul Food

For the life of me I cannot understand why this INCREDIBLE place gets only 3 stars!! I couldn't decide and ordered WAY more than any one person should ever order on their own LOLI got the fried catfish plate (with fries and coleslaw), the veggie plate (comes with three sides, I got dressing, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese), cornbread, and the cucumber tomato salad. THAT CATFISH BABY! It was fried to absolute perfection. The crunch was absolutely perfect, the flavor was spot on, and the fish was so tender and perfectly cooked! The salad was stunning. The cukes had been sitting in the liquid for so long that they were translucent and it was incredible!I'm super picky about cornbread because it's usually so dry, but this was delicious! Could even get a bit of sweetness in there. Yum!When it comes to the sides: Mac and cheese was decent, not the greatest, not the worst, more middle of the road. Mashed potatoes were basic, dressing was ok but the texture did a number on me. Id get the mac and the potatoes again, but not the dressing. I don't usually like coleslaw, and this coleslaw wasn't bad! Overall, I'll be back!

There's definitely potential, the homemade biscuit need to be purchased and heat, these were not edible. The porkchop and salmon patty, not porkchopS or salmon CroquetteS, we received one not an "S" on the end... Sir/Ma'am just do better.... The rice with the Croquette was ok with the addition of hot sauce. Porkchop with grits (how can Anyone mess up grits?)

counter service soul food restaurant near the meadows . the location is clean with ample seating . i like that the food is displayed in the front available for everyone to see . we were greeted as soon as we came in . and the staff was very knowledgeable of the menu and everything they had to offer . the food is reasonably priced . but the food was not very flavorful . the portion sizes are decent for the price

This is a nice soul food spot located in a strip mall. And good soul food is hard to find in Indy. They do require everyone to wear a mask to enter. They have some for sell if you don't have one. They have a large dining area, but have shut down most of the tables for social distancing. It is very tidy and clean though. There is tons of parking in the lot that it shares with the other businesses in the strip mall.The restaurant has a wide range of menu items such as meatloaf, pig feet, pork chops, and fried and baked chicken. They also have many sides including cabbage, mac & cheese, yams and corn. My highlight was the kool-aid bar. They had 3 different flavors of my favorite childhood drink. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. I got a 3 piece fried chicken dinner, with a side of goulash and mac & cheese. It took about 20 minutes for them to prepare my meal. The chicken was hot and fresh out of the fryer. It was delicious. The goulash was pretty tasty too. The mac & cheese, well, not so much. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. I would have probably gotten something else if I got to pick over again. The meal also came with come cornbread. It was a lot of food and I could not eat it all there, so I had some leftovers to take home.I enjoyed my meal here. Its sign that it has up claiming to be Indy's Best Kept Secret, definitely holds true. I recommend you checking this place out and will surely be back soon.

A true legend! I had fried catfish and tried many sides and they were all awesome. My friend had the pig knuckle, which also looked amazing. I was pleasantly surprised that they have modernized (LCD screen menus, etc) and were so welcoming to tourists like myself.

Order this from door dash the other ight and got smothered pork chops with cornd and greenbeans. Everything was very good. The chops were fantastic!

Love everything. Nice prices for the amount of food you get. Just wish they had more items available more often.

Ordered pick up because I was craving some good bbq chicken and I wanted to support a local business. I ordered the 2 pc. Bbq chicken plate with collard greens and dressing. The collard greens were decent but everything else was not good. Not pictured was a turkey leg with rice, a side of mashed potatoes, and mac n cheese. The turkey leg had no flavor and the rice was swimming in gravy. The mashed potatoes tasted like water. There was a sign as soon as you walk in that says no refunds unless something is missing. Sadly, all this food went into the trash. I will not be eating here again.

I ordered the oxtails. The oxtails appeared to have been cooked a couple of days prior or were not cooked long enough the day I bought them. They were very dry and tasteless. The green were very salty. I assumed the oxtails would come with rice but they didn't. They wanted to count the rice as a side. Food was HORRIBLE!!!

Went there with my dad Saturday at around 11:30 and i got the baked chicken wings (3) with sidesOf mac n cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything was delicious and homemade-tasting. Loved it! My dad got a side of green beans with his meal which i tried and really liked as well.
