This was from my stay over the weekend.

Two things, before we get started:1) This place used to be a Rodeway Inn. It *was* a Rodeway Inn when I placed my reservation. Now, it's labeled as Shadeland Inn. Don't get fooled!2) This place wasn't listed on Yelp until I put it in. A place of this magnitude of badness should *not* be forgotten.I've mentioned my exceptional nerdity before, but just last week, I headed out for the "Best Four Days in Gaming": GenCon Indianapolis. Now, I've been to GenCon before several times, but this was the first time I'd done the entire show--coming in on Wednesday night and staying through Sunday evening--so I was hoping to keep the hotel cost down by staying outside of the bustle of downtown. As such, I made an Expedia reservation for Rodeway/Shadeland Inn.DO. NOT. STAY. HERE. Ever. Don't do it. Seriously. I'm warning you. The problems and issues with this hotel are numerous and overwhelming, so I'll try to hit some of the highlights here. The rooms themselves are beyond lackluster and show the lack of upkeep. The sink in my bathroom didn't work properly, with the knobs mislabeled and no cold water available whatsoever. Exposed pipe in the (obviously ill-fitted) tub leaked continually, and the shower itself was utterly powerless. My comforter had notable cigarette burns and the mattress on my king-sized bed was malformed, with the right side of the bed actively sloping downward. The chest of drawers were stuck open, with the left one hanging 3 inches open, despite my best efforts to close it. The mini-fridge cut out about halfway through my stay, leaving me without any way to actively cool my drinks.Several of the lights were burnt out in my room, for which I wrote a note to have the light bulbs replaced. That never happened. Same thing, actually, when I left a note (directly on the towel rack!) for extra towels. My few interactions with the staff were surly, unpleasant, and utterly uncaring. It's obvious to me that not only do they not know how to run a hotel, but they simply don't care.Numerous amenities in the hotel are unavailable or have been shut down. An adjoining restaurant is all but boarded up, the pool was drained, the ice machines didn't work. Even the continental breakfast was nothing more than two packaged muffins and a jug of Sunny Delight on ice. Pathetic. If that's not enough, it's still not the worst part. The worst part, undoubtedly, is the group of people that Shadeland Inn attracts. No matter the time, there are *always* various people just hanging out on the stoop of the hotel, playing loud music, screaming at one another, and otherwise causing a ruckus. Twice during my stay, police cruisers swooped past, driving them off, but they simply reassembled a few hours later. There's undoubtedly some shady stuff going on at Shadeland Inn, and I have no intention of getting shot, mugged, or robbed, just to save $20 a night on my GenCon trip. The only remotely positive item I can think of is that there were no bugs. Oh, and the tv was okay, I guess. Do not *ever* stay at this derelict flophouse. There are at least 5 other hotels up the road on Shadeland in a better area, affiliated with national chains, and have much better reviews. Shadeland Inn is an exercise in abject misery.

This place ought to be called "Shadyland" Inn. So glad we did not stay here. My husband paid for a night here and then requested a refund, got our money back, and left. The first room we were assigned was disgusting. The second room we moved to was equally as disgusting. The lighting was dim, the carpet was full of stains, the paint looked horrendous. The first room reeked of smoke. An overpowering musty smell pervaded both rooms. The hallway carpet looked like it had water damage. Overall extremely depressing. One would have to have a strong constitution to endure a night here. The final nail in the coffin was that the clerk at the front desk was extremely unprofessional. My husband was greeted with a "What do you need?" She had a very thick accent and on top of that mumbled and spoke so poorly my husband could not understand half the words she said. When he said, "I'm sorry I can't understand you," she responded by raising her voice and tone very aggressively. I would recommend the La Quinta Inn and Suites downtown. It's double the price but a hundred times the quality and customer service.

Don't come here, I'm in town for the weekend and went for the cheapest option I could find...and that was my mistake. The term "you get what you pay for" is perfectly 100% accurate here. The lobby looks like it was great back in the day but has not been kept up well and then the rooms were not any better. The room looked dirty to start with. I feel dirty being in this room. I'm glad we only have one more night here. The TV flickers, there seems to be no insulation in the windows cuz we can here everything from the street. The TV remote wasn't working...the batteries were fine because the TV remote had a light whenever you pressed the buttons, but didn't do anything with the TV. I called the front desk...and first of all you can barely understand the lady...yes she's and immigrant but if you're going to be talking to the general public at least attempt to learn basic English. She eventually came up and did something to sync the remote back up to the TV, I asked what she did so I know what I would need to do but she just looked at me, smiled and mumbled something. That's all. And now we see that no one came by and cleaned the room. None of the clean bed sheets and no replacing the towels. So I went down to the front desk to ask for more towels this time it was an older man. I first ask for more towels and he immediately says and shakes his head NO. and I say again, I need new towels and he says ok and goes and get me one, I ask for a second one because my gf is here I booked the room for 2 adults. I have to argue for 2 towels, he says in broken English, essentially, no just 1 towel, and I say no I need another one, I have another person here I booked for 2 people! And now he's basically communicating with "yes" "no" and head nods so I argue more. I asked if he was charging for extra towels, I have no idea what he said but after arguing for a little bit he went and got another towel...after he gave it to me he said like a couple of sentences worth to me in his native language that I had no idea what he said. So I just walked away after getting the towels. Also I can honestly say I am not 100% sure these towels are even clean. They don't come in during my visit to replace the sheets and towels and when we moved the comforter on the bed we found a potato chip laying on the floor! For all I know they could just be coming in when people leave and just rearranging the bed sheets and never actually washing it. I can't wait to get home and wash off all the filth I feel from this place. THIS PLACE GETS ZERO STARS, IF YOUR LOOKING FOR THE ABSOLUTE BARE NECESSITIES THEN COME HERE, IF YOU WANT ANY FORM OF HOSPITALITY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE

It's a real business oriented place. When we pulled up we noticed a few ladies who work at night running business out of the laundry room. A nice independent salesman offered to hook us up with "dog food" before we made it to the room. People sure were friendly. They knocked on the door at all hours of the night to say hi. Several MMA fighters were practicing in the parking lot. There was a sign that said if you call 911 for any reason you would be kicked out. They didn't want to bother anybody. The roaches in the room minded their business.

Don't go! Run! This place is in an unsafe area. There is a glass shield at the front desk. There is no air conditioning. Man held my boyfriend's license for 10 minutes while looking up our reservation and my boyfriend had to ask for his license back even after they told him he could't get a refund because it wasn't over 24 hrs notice.Do not stay or book.

I was under the impression that this was a halfway decent hotel. I looked them up on countless booking websites before actually checking in on friday. I was told over the phone when trying to satisfy my curiosity on details of the hotel. I was told by a gentleman at the front desk that as of Wednesday that there were over 20 rooms available that met my search criteria and there was no need to reserve a room. That I could just check in on friday and there would be one available. I questioned the amenity of an indoor pool and was told the pool was under construction. Mind you I had a prior stay at this hotel but the experience was nowhere near as bad as it was this weekend! I hadn't been to this hotel in over 5 years, so to know that the pool was still under construction makes it seem as if they never even attempted to have it up and running at all. Being told that I didn't have to reserve my room online resulted in my spouse and I having no choice to book a single room double bed. Which wasn't too bad in the beginning but there were (several) defects with it that were withheld. Upon asking the details of the room amenities and all the front desk concierge told my spouse that room had been serviced 2 days prior and that it was in good shape. That was not the case and my stay was poor to say the very least! The WiFi they claimed to have did not work, at all on any of my many devices that I planned to use on my stay. I asked for a second room key that way my spouse would have one as well, the man gave me a demeaning look and asked "what"... I told him to have a goodnight and proceeded to the room. Upon entering the room the heat was on but no heat flowed from the air conditioning unit. The air worked just fine but the heat was non existent and it was cooler on these last couple nights in Indianapolis. There were 2 wash cloths and 4 towels. Apparently not enough for a 2 nights stay. When asked if we could have more towels and wash cloths we were told there wasn't anymore and that housekeeping would have to wash some. On the second day I asked the same question about the linen and received the same response. The room had several issues that were plain to see. My overall experience was really poor and I honestly don't understand why this hotel isn't under new management at this point!
