Scandia Apartments

We've lived here going on four non-consecutive years. I have to admit that most of what you have read is generally true; it's not the greatest place on Earth. I have had my car broken into. The trash compactors attract raccoons, possums, and other wildlife from the White River. We live here for only a handful of reasons: location, apartment size, and dog-friendliness. However, I have to give credit where it is due...this place has come a significant ways since we first moved in. I have noticed that the maintenance people generally make visits within 48 hours - very unlike before - and actually solve problems when they get there. The front office has clearly put effort into their dog park and pool - nice cabanas by the way. They have a nice workout area and racquetball court that open 24/7, which is really convenient for my schedule. And lastly, they actually email me when I get a package, rather than have the delivery at my door. Did I mention somebody stole our doormats?Anyways, they're clearly trying to turn this thing around...even if it's bit by bit, and even if they still have quite a ways to go to even get me to four stars. I would recommend this place if you like the Castleton/Fishers area, but can live with the things that come with a umm...."budget" apartment. 3/5 stars.I hope this helps!

How is to possible that outside is cooler than my nephews apartment? He put in a maintenance request for his AC on 6/4/23. 4 days his one year old has been sitting in heat. 4 days his pregnant wife has been sitting in heat. Don't move here unless you don't care about things getting fixed in your apartment.

Keep in mind, people usually review places if they have had an awful experience or if they have had a wonderful experience. If I could give a solid 3.5 then I would. My time here hasn't been mind blowing. But it hasn't been awful. I came from Irvington. I dealt with sewer leakage, mice infestations, black mold, shootouts.... You get my point. And moving here felt like SUCH an upgrade. If I'm being honest I haven't had a ton of problems. Maintenance is usually pretty timely when I have issues. Plumbing issues, water heater issues, thermostat issues. The only time I struggled was when I needed a screen for a window. Took a few months and I finally moseyed on over to the maintenance shack and found my own. It's not installed too well. But I was sick of waiting. Your bathtub will peel. And trash does get a little messy. But I've seen people who don't live here drop trash off. It's gotten better with the "camera" over there. Besides that, I haven't had a ton of issues. Anytime I've been to the office the staff have been pretty kind!The cost of rent isn't the best. But I don't mind paying it to get a peace of mind that I'm not going to be dealing with multiple shootouts in my parking lot anymore. If it skyrockets again, I probably won't be too happy and depending on my job situation and the cost I may look around. But $1,200 (including parking and that valet trash situation) isn't AWFUL. Not great. But. Not bad. Just signed another year. Hope it's a good one! All the best!

Never ever step your foot in this place. I think these Scandia apartments need to be taken off the list on any website. There is always trash everywhere and no one takes the trash from the dumpster. I have so many pictures. It looks like a trash mountain and it stinks so badly with so many mosquitos in the summer. They just want your money they don't care about service requests and I submitted 3 service requests 3months before a closer door completely came off and I told it might fall on me but they just did not seem to be cared. They just want your money on the 1st of every month. They failed to take money off of my bank account and blaming me for insufficient funds even though when the funds are available in my bank account. I contacted Alexandra immediately about the money did not get deducted she never responded back to me for the email which I had sent on 10/03 and I sent one more email again on 10/05 which she responded with 250$ of fine. When I was telling her that it was not my fault she was very very rude and cut my phone call. I don't think rude people should be in the leasing office. It is very disappointing that Scandia appointed such a mean lady as the Manager.She told me that I have to pay the rent of 1181$ by end of today. If I cannot pay it by 6:00 pm then I have to pay 1286$. She said the fine was system generated and she could not do anything about it. I had to work till 5:15 pm today I requested her that about dropping my money order off in the box. Looks like they don't have anything like that and she gave me a deadline 6:00 pm. She then called again and told me that if I take my review off the website she can let me pay 1181$. It was so funny that she just told me it was system generated that she couldn't do anything and now she is asking me to pay 1181$. I recorded all her phone calls and took screen shots of her messages.

I absolutely hated living here and here is why. I movedin during Covid and we just wanted to get in whereverwe could. The two years living there were absolutelyterrible. I only stayed there the two years and wasplanning on renewing to not have to hassle withmoving all my things again. When we first moved inthere were broken blinds from the previous renters,smoke alarm didn't work, siding on the balcony wasextremely damaged from what it seemed like theprevious renters and they never did anything about it.The first month paying rent they said we didn't payand had to pay AGAIN or we'd get an eviction notice . I've had a huge crack on my ceiling/ wall in the living room. The first time I brought this to their attention they had maintenance come out and all they did was spray paint over it. The crack got worse and worse as we got more rain and bad weather, I brought it to theirattention MULTIPLE times and they assured me they'dhave someone go and fix it. I've had a request for thesame issue and it still hasn't been resolved. I can hearthe neighbors full conversations right above me andyou hear every little step they take. My roommate hadcomplained about the loud noise they were making upstairs around 10:30-11PM and they said theycouldn't do anything about it. Second year theyclaimed we were late on rent and never paid. I calledin the office and told them I paid early and providedthe receipt number for the money order. The man onthe phone said" oops it looks like we applied thepayment to someone else's account". Anytime weturned in a money order we had our address on it andboth of our names. The money order would be in anenvelope with the same information. I was in theprocess of renewing the apartment for the third yearand at the last moment I was told I missed thechance for the renewal price and now they wantedaround $1,200. Now that price is not bad but I wouldnot pay that amount for the condition the apartmenthas been in and they won't fix it !! I told them I neverreceived an email for the renewal amount andprovided screenshots of my emails to prove it. Iinformed the leasing office I would much rather endmy lease but since I was past the 60 day notice theyextended my lease 2 more weeks to count the 60days. I was given the prorated amount for May in anemail and was told I only needed to pay that pro ratedamount due on May 1st. I paid a day early as Inormally would. I got an email on May 2nd saying I'm late on payment and now owe $30. I called in the officeand they said that because the lease was extendedthere's a fee I need to pay , even though I wasn't theone to extend the lease those 2 weeks. I spoke with the office and they said it was a mistake and I actually didn't owe anything at all. I should've trusted the comments and believed what everyone else said. If you plan on moving here, don't.

horrible horrible and horrible paid rent on time for two years expecting to et a refund on deposit but no there toliet always look dirty in the hole where it drains when I lived there and don't you know i was informed i didn;t clean it which I did it just looked like that carpet was stain when I moved in even after they gont someone to come in and clean it still had stain well I was charged for that when I moved out so many issues frig going out but they did nreimbursh me for my food I lost it went out at least 3 time before they replaced it A/C went out in the middle of the Texas heat they only gave me one small A.C for one room I guess we were all to sleep eat and relax in one room etc etc. pool always nasty and couldn't use but when I moved out they want to charge me a 75.dollar processing fee. Ridicules said I owed 39.00 dollars and some cents well sent the money and didn't relize i was .20 cents short they e mailed me telling me I owe .20 cents and I had 14 days to send it in wow . After I rent for 2 years and never was last in the 2 years, I lived there they don't appreciate good renters. Don't rent from them, and terrible drainage every time it rained, I had to walk through water to get to my car, Sunday they allowed the church to park in parking lot if you lifted in the morning, you may not find a parking spot when you get back. but are family gets towed.

I have lived here for 3 years and I was initially pleased to move here because I was having a hard time getting my disability veteran retirement income to count towards my income and the unit itself is aesthetic and has a washer and dryer in the walk-in closet. However I've become disenchanted, I had my AC broken down for a month during the summer before they had someone fix it. The maintenance team always takes forever to fix anything, doesn't come when they say they will, leaves things partially finished, and does things like putting wall sockets on completely crooked. It's gotten progressively trashier outside as well, with reoccurring trash compactor issues, and people just leave trash piled up outside right in front on the complex which can totally ruins the vibe of coming home to a pleasant place. My previous neighbor also was shot right outside my door following a domestic dispute and blood splatter was all over my door for a couple days. I know there's no such thing as the perfect apartment complex, but my rent is over 1200 a month for a 1 bedroom and I'd expect a better value for that kind of money.

If I could give something negative stars I would most definitely give this place like -100 stars for this place. We have been here for over a year just for the simple fact we couldn't find anything else at the time. Maintenance is absolutely shitball. Like completely have been neglecting our washer being broken for over 3 months. We have a list of things that either need to be repaired or broken and they keep telling us ," oh well the part's on back order, the part's unavailable right now, etc." for over 7 months we've been trying to get everything fixed so when we move out we don't owe anything for any minor damages. Honestly don't waste your time here. It's a shithole. People act weird and sus all the time. They have 1 maintenance guy for the entire place so do the math.
