In the last 3 months of our travels here to Indiana found this restaurant to offer a wide variety of food selection. My favorite is their tenderloin sandwich with a side of slaw. Great service and very good at coming back to check on you. Also need to mention they can accommodate large groups. We had a group of 14. Definitely recommend.

This is not going to be pretty, so hang in there.I have had dinner good meals and some pretty poor meals at this restaurant. I keep going back because my mother-in-law likes it there. The good, well that would be breakfast. My go to meal if I am really hungry is the gyro omlette. Good flavors and huge portion. If I get it I am set for the entire day. That's what I had this morning. Bill for my wife and I with coffee and ac decent tip was $25.I have had some terrible meals as well such as the hamburger that must have sat at the back of the grill all day. Had I hit it on the table, it may have shattered. The waitress took it back and was told that this was the way they served it.But let's continue, shall we?We went back this evening with the mother-in-law for dinner. She had a senior meal, my wife and I shared a dinner, sweet and sour pork stir fry (WAY too much sauce) with an extra salad and drinks for everyone. Total with a generous tip was another $30. So I am up to $55 there today.Royal Oak opened an ice cream shop, attached to but separate from the restaurant ... you can get there through the dining room. They serve run of the mill Blue Bunny ice cream for $2.79 a scoop. 3 scoops, one for each of us is just under $9. I'm not too happy but it made my wife and her mother smile.I look as they charge my credit card and it tacks on a service charge for non-cash.There are no signs. There was no offer of cash or credit. I just dropped $55 with these people and was going to spend more and they do something like this. I even asked if there were signs informing of a minimum purchase or extra charge for credit. I was told that there was not. They just charge extra if you use credit.Eat there if you want. Just beware. There are other dining choices in Rensselaer that are much better. For breakfast, try Janet's Kitchen at 112 Van Rensselaer. Great food every time at a fair price .For lunch and dinner, pretty much any places else. Fenwick had good burgers and great beer ... across the street is Embers Station with wood-fired pizza and craft distillery liquor. There are 2 Mexican places in town (I've reviewed both) and one by the expressway that are pretty good (I like Taqueria Mexico at 101 E Elm the best). If it's pizza you're looking for ... take your pick. Except for Arni's (see my review) they are all okay. I'm a bit prejudiced, I'm from Chicago. The pizza won't kill you but it's not what I grew up on.Bottom line, Royal Oak probably won't poison you but you can do better in quality, price and you won't be surprised when they double dip the bill with hidden fees.

A great local, family owned restaurant! I had the mostaccioli and my mom had the seafood platter. Didn't take pictures but the portions were HUGE. We all left the restaurant with about two thirds of our meal in takeout boxes. The food itself is good, but not great. Nothing was wrong or bad, the style of taste just fell under my preference for that mouth-watering reaction. Service was great, restaurant decor is nice and the sitting area was clean. The bathrooms surprised me in a good way. They were very clean and well decorated. Overall a nice place!

The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly. The food was okay.We had breakfast which came with lots of bread choices. I picked the biscuit to go with my scrambled eggs and hash browns. The biscuit appeared to have been pressed in a panini machine, which I thought was odd. The taste was okay.

Had dinner there with two friends. Two had fish, one had chicken Parkman's two had Gyro's one a wrap and one a Gyro. Service was fine at first then the rush started and wait staff did not check if drinks needed refilling for a long time. Nice place to come for a good meal did not have us leave quickly but we're fine with use staying a little after eating to visit. Have a number of set works of different kinds on wall.

The biscuits are the lightest and fluffiest I've ever had. Great service as well. The restaurant is a clean and welcoming place. Only had breakfast there but I'd go back for sure!
