My husband and I wanted to eat at the Rod and Gun Club many years ago but at the time we could not afford it. It slipped off our radar until last week (40 years later) when someone posted about it on Facebook. Our visit was wonderful and the food amazing! If you eat here request a waitress named Paula and make sure to ask for Mike to share the best items on the menu as well as a wonderful history of this place. The fillet and ribeye steaks were top notch as well as onion rings and red velvet cake! Very happy to have found this treasure!

A true hidden gem!Sitting back on an old county road lies the Rod & Gun Steakhouse, a former brothel. From the outside it doesn't look like much but upon walking in the doors you're transported back in time. Old photos, paintings, and memorabilia line the dimly lit walls. The dining room and bar are open seating but if you want the full experience, be sure request a private room! Fridays and Saturdays a busy nights so call ahead or show up early or later in the evening! This is the place to go for an amazing steak, period. Anytime I'm home and hungry for a real meal and juicy steak this is where we go!The menu is standard but full of local favorites. I ordered the 9oz filet which comes with a salad and choice of side. Most sides are served family style, I recommend the lyonnaise potatoes! I've heard great things about the shrimp and catfish as well. TLDR;If you're looking for an unique dining experience and hearty well-cooked dinner, this is the place to go!

Terre Haute's secret steak place. Can't beat the food. Servings generous and good service. The fried mushrooms are the best. Steaks cooked right and to order, the side choices are many, we get the fried potatoes ( not as crispy as Garrett) but just right. The atmosphere in the entire place is unique. We eat in the bar area, others choose to go to the private rooms. Ask about the history of this place. Hard to find but with the effort. Don't forget the after dinner drinks. Grasshoppers are our favorite. Call ahead for hours and reservations if you want them. Small groups and large party easy to handle for the staff. Never a bad meal.

Excellent steaks, fried mushrooms onions. Casino and cheap cocktails. They can get busy so service is a little slow, but can't beat the history and atmosphere.

The Springbrook Rod & Gun Club, as it was previously known, was originally a private, members only facility known for its outstanding food and exceptional service. It catered to the movers and shakers of the area for decades in a discreet manner. If its walls could talk, you could learn the history of the counties it borders that couldn't be written. The same great food and individualized service is now available to the public. While their hand selected steaks are superb, other traditional fare is available that you would have found in a "road house" 100 years ago. Great drinks too.I've been a patron for roughly 50 years and each evening there has been a special experience. It's been a well kept secret, and many have considered dining there to be a privilege. Now that it's open to the public give it a try. It's like going back in time.

Family of 5 visited we had filet, strip and shrimp. Lyonnaise potatoes, curly fries, green bean, mac and cheese and baked potato. Everything was great. Filet and strip were outstanding. Cooked perfectly. Shrimp was breaded perfectly and not over cooked. Portions were generous. This was the best steak I have had in years. I HIGHLY recommend. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. Prices reasonable.

The Rod & Gun easily makes up for average (but still good) food with a very unique atmosphere. Make sure to eat in a private room when you're there-- they're not the event rooms you're used to, but smaller rooms that gangsters like John Dillinger and Al Capone used to gamble and drink during prohibition. It's an interesting experience to dine at the Rod & Gun, and one I'd definitely suggest you try, if only to catch a glimpse of where powerful criminals once spent their time.
