i've eaten pizza all over the world, and i have never found another pizza like pizza king. it's one of the hidden gems of kokomo. there's nothing fancy in the shop itself because only the pizza matters. the crust is thin but not aggressively crispy. the toppings are fresh, with finely ground sausage and pepperoni being my personal favorite. the staff is always kind and helpful. don't go here looking for a traditional pizza experience. pizza king is unlike anything else and that's hard to do, in general, but especiallyhard to do well.

Sadly, it is THE WORST pizza ever! The crust is thin, dry & hard and they literally dice there toppings! Why? The taste was terrible, not sure if it was the toppings or cheese. The pizza is cut into squares so you get slices that are fit for a new born baby! There large is at best a regular sized medium anywhere else, HUGE RIP OFF! They put there pizza in a bag, thinking it's there signature when it just makes it all sloppy! Just because they've been around since the 50s, does not mean there good! People just don't know better! The same crowd that goes here are the same who think Olive Garden is fine dining!I highly recommend you try a REAL pizzeria such as Mancinos or Oscars. Will never waste my money here again

Pizza King South has been my must have food during every trip to Kokomo. After over 30 years of Fred's pizza I absolutely crave and love this place. The extra thin, salty crust is one of the most unique pizzas I have ever tasted.Yet...this is also the most polarizing pizza joint you will ever come across. For newbies it may resemble one of those inexpensive frozen pizzas from the super market. For people who have had Pizza King in other cities (and I'm referring to those from Muncie) they often feel disappointed Pizza King South isn't the same. I can't count the number of people who I force to eat this pizza and they ask what it is that I love about this stuff. There is almost a cult like following for this place! My short answer: the pizza is unique. It's been perfected over decades and tastes the same today as it did when I was child. It's comfort food, a connection to your past, and a flavor I will crave forever and hope it never changes. While the shop has a completely unimpressive exterior and an interior that was last updated in 1980, the family has perfected their recipe through the years and seem committed to the product they serve. I hope I can have that same passion for my work years from now. So - for the first time visitors to Kokomo I would suggest giving Pizza King South a shot. You may not like it and that's ok. But this is very much a family business with a long history in Kokomo and will be one of the most unique pizza experiences you will encounter. Keep your order simple - pepperoni or sausage is always great. It seems very Midwestern to suggest one large pizza per person but the thin crust means someone can easily finish off over half a pizza without realizing it.

THIS REVIEW IS DIFFERENT than the others. The others offer opinions on the place but no specifics, which is too bad. So here is what makes Pizza King Kokomo unique - you either like it or don't, much of the liking it is like any long time restaurant in any town - part of the allure is the memories...If you want thick crust go somewhere else. If you want enough cheese to cause immediate clogged arteries as it drips off the edge, go somewhere else. If you want pools of grease from the pepperoni on the slices go somewhere else. First, the crust is cracker thin, no more than 1/8", maybe 1/4" at the edges. Second, they grind their pepperoni first and then cook it completely beforehand and separately. So the ground pepperoni that is added to the pizza is nearly fat/grease free, and because it is crumbled it is intense in flavor. Their tomato sauce is just that, just slightly thinned tomato paste actually - not runny when spread on the crust, rather thick - just thinned tomato paste. Then there is the cheese, which has a little seasoning mixed in the cheese - oregano a bit and such - nothing else. No sprinkles of seasoning over the top, just the thin crust, ground pre-cooked pepperoni, and cheese. Any other topping is the usual pizza toppings found elsewhere. Then they slice in 2" squares, maybe one towards the edge may be 2" by 3 or 3.5", but these are squares of thin deliciousness. Not gooey, but moist enough certainly, in the middle at least. Crisp towards the outer edge - but the little squares help make the pizza - you can pop a square in your mouth whole and let the intense pepperoni flavor mingled with the sauce and cheese and crust flavors fill your taste buds.Part of the flavor in my opinion is the pizza ovens they use - the crust gets cooked dark and has that flavor baked in that only a very well seasoned 50 year old (at least) pizza oven could provide.Compared to others, the pizzas are drier, thinner, crisper, and the flavors are from the toppings and crust that doesn't overpower you - it is savory, not overpowering. Perhaps and acquired flavor, you'd have to try it and see. So for me, I go for the pepperoni and pepperoni/mushroom pizzas, and when my wife and I return to where we grew up, we have them 1/2 bake 10-15 pizzas of the 10" size and freeze them for us, then we put them in a cooler and drive the 11 hours home. Delicious...to us...

Pizza King is always our goto after a ballgame! When we were in there last time, my husband said that the guy that was working was getting a pizza out and kept looking at it closely. Got another pizza out and looked again confused. When we got home we realized what he was looking for. We orders a sausage only pizza and received onion as well with sausage.

They don't honor anything from Yelp site. They also forgot how to put toppings on a pizza. Unfortunate. We were looking forward to a great Pizza King pizza but we were sadly disappointed. Won't be back

We lived in Kokomo for years and miss Pizza King South. Fred and his crew make the absolute best Pizza in my opinion, even if you go to another Pizza King, It's just not the same. A Large Pepperoni and Mushroom with extra sauce, cheese, and toppings is heaven to me. We don't have Pizza King in Michigan so when I am on the road I call an order in for the ride home. Sometimes we get uncooked to freeze to cook at home, we love it that much.

Long time favorite. If you grew up on the south side of Kokomo you knew Fred. (Pizza king south how can I help you) He recognized everyone's voice immediately long before the days of caller I.D. The pizza is excellent the subs are delicious. I can't imagine giving this place anything but 5 stars. Not just due to the nostalgia but because it's consistently good food ever time we go. While I miss Fred, the crew is doing a great job continuing the kind words, good service and best of all excellent food.
