Morning magnolias is a public art mural of magnolia flowers that sits along downtown Indianapolis canal walk. My family and I were in town for the weekend my daughter cheer Competition held inside the Convention center. Over the two days while waiting between performances and awards ceremonies me and sometimes my family walked the surrounding areas and explored as the public art scene here is plentiful and creative. One of the cooler places we discovered while exploring the area. The canal walk we noticed when checking out the 9/11 tribute. We went down a flight of stairs and while walking along the canal we noticed on the underpasses on each side was murals all the way downTherese magnolias with the bright green background really pop with the reflective canal water and gives it a very peaceful and Nice viewing experience. Overall very cool piece and a very nice area this is located in. Very pleasant to walk around and discover.

This mural is part of the Arts Council of Indianapolis' successful 46 for XLVI mural Initiative Program. It was painted in 2011 by Barb Stahl, For Stahl, who sees magnolias as a symbol of strength, endurance and beauty. It is a basic mural that depicts pink, white, yellow and mostly lime green magnolias with green leaves against a dark green background. If you look closely, you will see a couple of bees in the mural. The flowers are pretty and the painting showcases Stahl talent, but it is not very intricate or complex. Not my favorite mural on the canal, but it is ok.Anyway, there is tons of metered street parking available near the entrance to the canal where the mural is located, so you can get out and take a look. Just be sure to make sure you are on the right side of the canal you want to be on. Whether it is the side the mural is on, or across from it, to give you more of an overhead view. There are also a few garages within a reasonable walking distance too. Obviously, this is not a mural that you can do a drive by on, so that is not an option. You have to hoof it. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed; this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals in the area. There are a ton of them under the over passes along the canal, to maximize your time and trip.

Along the canal, one of the many murals you will find is "Morning Magnolias" by Barbara Stahl (2011). It was selected as one of the "46 for XLVI" Superbowl mural initiatives sponsored by the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Stahl has been painting murals around Indy for a long time and is no stranger to transforming underpasses into works of art. This mural is a pretty literal depiction of magnolia flowers using lush green leaves as a background for the mostly white flowers in various stages of blooming.Review #1333
