I was lucky enough to receive a pair of free passes to the 2017 Middle Coast Film Festival in Bloomington. I'd never attended a film festival before, and I had a blast! The films feature nice variety: series of shorts and feature length films, including documentaries, comedies, dramatic pieces, and weird (or at least, weird to me, but hey, I'm a novice) artistic stuff. As you might expect, some of the pieces I saw were excellent and memorable, some were forgettable, and some were not very good or interesting. But it's definitely a great way to spend a day exploring cinema. The small-town location makes it really easy: the venues are all in easy walking distance of each other (as are great nearby bars and restaurants), and it's easy to find cheap parking for the day. Plus there was unlimited free LaCroix water available at the main location!I'm hoping to be able to check out Middle Coast Film Festival again in 2018.
