MacAllister Amphitheater is a hidden gem that is Indianapolis Parks Department. Its a newly renovated not too fancy but greatly appreciated Amphitheater that hosts a variety of events. I've seen the wonderful Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra here along with Shakespeare in the Park and even music concerts. Its really a jewel and a gem. There are plenty of bench seating and if you want to relax, there's ample grass seating for a picnic. Parking is close. The only thing there isn't are bathrooms...port-o-potties but no bathrooms.Don't sleep on MacAllister Amphitheater...located inside Garfield Park is really a great place for those looking for a great date that doesn't cost a arm and a leg. Makes sure to donate a dollar or two for upkeep. It helps keep events free or low price!!

We randomly came across a concert. It was actually part of the Summer Concert Series. The symphony is a free event offered to the public. They offer seating in the front and grass on the side and back for seating. It is a dog friendly space and few people parked their bikes on the side. I think you can bring outside food to events. It was a really nice event with good weather. They have a sound system so the music projects far for everyone.

We love this park. I can't think of any reason not to give it 5 stars. The Sunken Gardens are the most beautiful I'm the city. They are like something straight out of European royal estates. The botanical gardens are pretty nice for a city park. The entire park is huge, with lots of open spaces, forested areas and an Arts Center. Oh, and a beautiful amphitheatre with a nice stage space. They put on live theater, host bands and orchestras. For the hot days there is a great water park. And plenty of picnic and playground space. Seriously, what's not to love about this park!

Not the most spectacular of venues (i.e., I don't think they spend much money keeping up the place) but there is something old school and cool about it. It'd be nice if they spent a little bit more money upgrading the seating up front (and providing recycling bins instead of all trash cans) but otherwise, it's inexpensive, there is a lot of lawn seating, and it's a great spot to see a show on a cool summer night.

Wow-why did I not know about this place sooner! I'm very familiar with the Conservatory on the other side of the park, but I had never been to the amphitheater prior to attending one of the movies in the park. Recently renovated, its big enough so you can spread out, but small enough to feel like a more intimate environment. Sound system is good and there are bathrooms behind the stage. Looking forward to attending more events there soon!
