I'm back again for more! My original review says it all. I am here for carry out and the only native English speaker here so you know it's good!

I had never been here before but growing up in Southern California I'm always searching for authentic Mexican food...and Los Portales is the best in the Midwest! I couldn't decide if I wanted ceviche or the special of the day Pollo with Mole- so I got both. The ceviche was insanely inexpensive, like $3.50, so I was shocked that all of the ingredients were fresh instead of frozen. Serving size was excellent and flavor was perfect. I highly recommend their salsas, which were all made in-house. The massive plate of chicken smothered in mole sauce took me back to my childhood, sitting in the kitchen at a friends house for dinner in Mexicali. The chicken was cooked perfectly, tender but not falling apart. The rice and beans were clearly made fresh. I was amazed that they even make their own horchata! Even though the place was busy around noon, the staff were on their toes and everything we needed or wanted was there before we asked! One warning- the homemade chips and salsa are extremely addictive. If you have one, you'll want many more and won't have room for the amazing food. I will be back again and again. If you're looking for fake Mexican food or Tex-Mex this is not for you. My entire meal including tip came to less than $20- and I ordered two meals. Prices were amazing. Huge selection of drinks and beers from Mexico too!

Food order: Steak taco, grilled chicken taco, chorizo quesadilla, and a bottled water. I don't know if they have a soda/water fountain or not, but my experience with these Mexican restaurants is they typically don't.I came just before 11am so they had been open less than an hour. I was immediately greeted in English and ordered and paid from the counter. I do have a small cheat sheet on my phone with the translations for the basic meats (and taco in Spanish is apparently taco....so) for reference, but it wasn't needed. The tacos are served on corn tortilla so that is an immediate plus. I could clearly hear the meal being prepared in the kitchen, so the meat on both tacos was very hot and fresh. A bit dry, but that is to be expected, and it is served with a couple of limes and they have the standard sauces you'll get at most Mexican restaurants. The standout of the meal was the chorizo quesadilla. The chroizo meat was very juicy and flavorful. I would definitely come back here for this alone.I don't think I spent more than $10-11 for all of this, so the meal is decently priced. I'd definitely come back for more chorizo and to try some of the other things other Yelp reviewers mentioned.

I'm always looking for a good tasting Torta. The Torta de Asada was pretty flavorful, they use mayo instead of sour cream which is different from what I'm used to. Good taste, nothing amazing but I would go there if I'm on that side of town.

Hidden Gems are always fun to pass to along and this is one to try. Right off the batt I will tell you that I believe this location has the best chips and salsa in Indy! They make the chips in house and I love the salsa. If they sold the chips by the bag I would walk out with a 5lb bag of them. The tacos, burritos, and tortas are all to get and I always get them here at the location. This location can be a little difficult to find in a strip mall behind the DQ next to a laundromat. The owners are great and we have been eating here for about 10 years.

I haven't even placed an order with this establishment and the woman on the phone has me livid. She hung up on me twice b/c I was asking her about Birria tacos - I asked her what days do they offer them, since she said they only make them on certain days - she advised just the weekends, before I could find something else to order, she hung up again. Now why on earth are they on the menu as an option if it's something that is only offered twice a week? Shouldn't the menu advise this? Yes it should.

Los Portales is right around the corner from my work, so I always come here for dinner on my break. The tacos are so delicious, but what you need to order is the guacamole and chips. The homemade chips are so good.I especially love that I can call ahead and place my order so that it is ready by the time I get there. That way I waste no time waiting for my food and I'm able to dig right in!

The BEST guacamole and chips in the city. Seriously, those homemade chips are better than everything. The inside is very welcoming and the service is always great. Family run spot. I tend to get the chorizo torta most often which is fantastic. But those CHIPS. If you're looking for an authentic Mexican spot - no frills - get here!
