It's hard to go to Saraga and not grab a sweet treat at La Reyna. You're really doing yourself a disservice if you don't . The prices can't be beat ($.99-$1.50 for most everything) and all the sweets you are drooling over are baked fresh daily. There are cafeteria trays you use to pick out your items. Take them to the cashier and either pay $.20 for a paper bag, bring your own, or.. carry them I guess? Be warned, there is a $5 minimum for cards.. which is how I ended up with 5 cookies instead of one.

So we are checking out at the grocery store and I see the word, "BAKERY" calling my name from the corner. I leave my family in line and sneak off to scope out the goods. I return to my cart only to grab my wallet because let's face it, the smell alone made me want to buy one of every pastry. As a first timer, I was a little lost because there were no paper bags and plastic gloves under the pastry cabinets. But as a friendly employee explained to me, all you have to do is grab of the round trays and then you pile all your desired items on there with the provided tongs. I started with three amazingly large and soft donuts covered in sugar. (In the picture I will post, you will only see two donuts because I couldn't wait to get home to devour one.) Then I piled on a guava empanada and a pineapple empanada. I finished off my tray with a bread that reminded me of a danish, with some sort of filling in the middle and minus the frosting. The donuts are awesome. Fluffy and sweet. I didn't care too much for the guava or pineapple empanadas but am looking forward to the last pastry I purchased. I will definitely be back soon and this time I will know what I'm doing and will also be able to try out some different items.

My 1 of 2 fave panederias in Indy! Growing up on pan dulces as a child you know how your fave pan should taste. My go to is the pan con queso y jalapeños. Tastes wonderful! Slight heat and flavor due to a little cooked onion. Not overpowering. I enjoy the empanadas de guanábana or apple. Not a big fan of the other flavors however. I never can find any with pumpkin. Loved those when I was growing up! Their conchas are perfectly cooked and pair well with coffee in the morning. I recommend the Nino Embueltos (jelly roll covered in coconut). Not too sweet but the jelly filling gives it enough sweetness. Also, the Rieles usually with strawberry and queso (???) are pretty tasty. A little sugar baked on the pastry is a nice touch. Like most panederias, it's a self serve. Grab a tray and tongs. Then, select your goodies. You will not be disappointed.

Some excellent pastries! I love their Conos de manjars but they run out quickly so come early for these. If I lived closer I'd be here everyday. They have their own version of what looks like a Hostess Cupcake but theirs has a cherry filling. The cake is perfection and then you take a bite with the filling. Woah. Have cash on hand if you will be spending less than $5. So so good!

Yummy bakery that is SUPER cheap. Located inside Saraga international grocery store- as soon as you walk on the front door hang a quick right to see the bakery on your right. I didn't know what most of the stuff was- but everything looks som yummy- so I grabbed a tray and filled it up. We had a fun time trying the different pastries.

This is the little bakery situated in the corner of Saraga. Definitely the best Mexican pastries I've had in the city. Everything always tastes fresh and the value is fantastic! It's a serve yourself style bakery. Grab what you'd like and bring it up to the counter to pay. Service is always stellar. I never know what I'm eating since there are no signs but so far I've not been disappointed. The Mexican Wedding Cakes (cookie) are stellar! I love grabbing some pastries on my way out after doing some shopping. Try this place!
