The food is absolutely delicious at La Guanaquita. We stopped far a quick lunch yesterday. They serve mostly Salvadoran food but also other Latin foods. They were busy at lunch with eat-in and carry-out orders. The parking lot was full. But we're we're able to get a table for two. When we came in, they called out their English speaking server, Karla. Karla was supper friendly and attentive. I had two of their special pupusas. They were served with limes, sauce and curcido, which is a spicy marinated cabbage mix. The shrimp pupusas is stuffed with bits of shrimp mixed with a generous amount of creamy cheese. The chicken pupusas was filled with a lot of chicken and small amount of cheese. Both pupusas were excellent. I also had a chicken taco, which was a pretty standard Street taco. The chicken was moist and yummy. The restaurant and parking lot could use some love. The dining room could use a coat of fresh paint and have ceiling tiles repaired. The parking lot needs to have potholes fixed and could use some lines. That said, I'd come back in a heartbeat. The food is that good.

Yes! Sad that we are just now discovering this 38th Street treasure but looking forward to future visits with our kiddos in tow. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our visit was during the 8am breakfast scene and we enjoyed a feast of pupusas, curtido, beans, yucca, plantains and chicharrones. All were hearty and delicious. The space is full of natural light and welcoming. We noticed that you can order fresh smoothies thanks to their partnership with the juice/ice cream shop next door (or possibly owned by the same folks?). The staff was also incredibly friendly and we loved the opportunity to only speak Spanish during our visit. Can't wait for our next visit!

I have loved pupusas ever since I spent time in El Salvador in 2012. You eat them with your hands, curtido & salsa are a must as accompaniments, and remember to grab plenty of napkins! I had heard that La Guanaquita was very authentic so I thought I'd check it out. And, while I am not Salvadoran myself, I believe they were right! I ordered 2 pupusas revueltas (frijoles, queso, chicharrón-- beans, cheese, pork), which came with curtido/salsas. Two were definitely enough for me-- they are QUITE filling. And quite good. Some things to note:-Some reviews mentioned that the service sometimes takes a while so I brought a journal to write in but honestly as long as you're not in a rush to leave, it's not really noticeable (I went at 12:30 pm on a Sunday). -I also read that it's not as ideal if you don't speak Spanish. I *do* speak Spanish and was waited on in Spanish, but the menu itself is in English and Spanish & I can see very easily how someone only knowing English would be still able to get around. Extras: I caught the eye of a waitress & sat myself down-- you order at your table but you pay at the counter. Both cash & card welcome.Overall, it's definitely worth checking out & it was exactly what I had hoped it would be.

Sometimes you hit the right restaurant with the right palate at the right time, and so it was with me coming here a couple weeks ago. I'll keep it short and sweet -- two weeks later, I'm still enjoying the memory of my Yuca frita con chicharron dish. We also devoured pupusas and tamales, definitely overeating and definitely not regretting it. This was an hour of pure joy.

New to the region looking for something close to what I used from the Mexican meat markets from L.A. sorry it's not close. The workers are rude and they do not try to speak English! Sorry they need to try! This place gets people on different parts of the world so be nice to your customers! And last if I'm looking for carne asada, please try to find a marinade for it. I know how to marinade my food but a lot of your customers do not.

I recently had the chance to visit a pupusa restaurant that my friend had recommended to me. The pupusas were amazing and had a great texture, particularly the pork and cheese variety. The restaurant offered a lot of options to choose from including tacos and a variety plate with rice, egg, cheese, pupusa, fried banana, and more. The customer service was also great, with the server being nice, attentive and even made a funny comment thinking I was Chinese, but the seats were worn out. The restaurant serves authentic Salvadorian cuisine and you pay at the front. I highly recommend it, especially the pupusas, and I will definitely be back to try more of their dishes.

Great food, friendly service. Nice change of pace when you're tired of basic American breakfasts.

I came in here while hanging out with a good friend. I couldn't understand my first waitress sadly as my Spanish is very limited. We did get a waitress that spoke excellent English and she made a few recommendations which I took literally and ordered them all... Isn't that the best way to try someplace new?Well it may have taken 10-15 minutes or more for the food to come out, but it was amazing, some of the best Mexican/Salvadorian food I have ever had. It was all oh so yummy. I only sampled my items and took the rest home. For the two of us with way more food then either could eat. I probably had enough food for 4 people easily at our table, cost was still under $40 and this was with bottled water and Horchata being served as well.I will gladly come back here when in the area again I can't wait to try other items on the menu as what I did try was amazing. If you don't speak Spanish, let them know. Walk in and sit at any table and they will come to you.

Kind of a dive but it's OK because their food is really good. We had the sweet corn tamale, so good! A chorizo & cheese pupusa, delicious! Shrimp ceviche, different from any I've had before but good (seemed like it had lots of celery seed & or salt, was very soupy, & very fresh). My husband had el tipico which was griddle top cooked steak & chicken (both very thin, well done, a little dry, but tender & well seasoned), shrimp, rice, beans (best refried beans I've ever had), & salad.

This is an authentic Salvadorian restaurant! Se habla Español; meaning they speak Spanish here. At times someone who speaks English is there but for the most part expect to receive your service in Spanish. The pupusas are the best in the city. They're always made fresh and are super soft and tasty. You can try their other dishes if you wish to have a more diverse meal, however I only go for the pupusas. The restaurant has been around for several years and is humble but offers the basics of what you need, a table and seats and delicious food, you don't need much else. A staple of Indy's west side that I hope is always around!
